My ranking: 1- PLANET (1968) 2- BENEATH (1970) 3- BATTLE (1973) 4- CONQUEST (1972) 5- ESCAPE (1971) 1- WAR (2017) 2- DAWN (2014) 3- RISE (2011) Hello guys, If you believe that Cornelius, Zira and CAESAR altered the past in 1973 and created a better Planet of the Apes (as seen in BATTLE), then these are my very detailed and well-thought POTA timelines based on the revisable timeline concept: TIME TRAVELLING ON THE PLANET OF THE APESpotaplanetoftheapes.blogspot.comYou can also find detailed timelines for Burton's 2001 reimagining and the original 1974 TV series as well. Check my special files on all Planet of the Apes existing in movies and fiction. More to come! In the while, enjoy. Thanks.

Glad to see ESCAPE listed so high, it was a very unusual and original POTA movie.

By the way:
When you watched the first movie for the very first time, did you assume that the Apes were "humanoid" because they had been altered by alien evolution (before discovering that it was Planet Earth) and nuclear mutation (after you discovered that it was Planet Earth)? ESCAPE retconned that by assuming that "Humanoid Apes" were the common norm in the POTA universe.

I mean I guess it does in that time loop type way. You know, where The Terminator story makes no logical sense when you think about it. It is this crazy paradox. It's been quite a while since I have watched these movies.

Read my timelines: it's not a time loop at all. The three Apes altered the past and created a new timeline.
The retconning was referred to the "humanoid" aspect of the Apes. It seemed that it was normal, even for the 20th century's canons (ESCAPE is set in 1973). PLANET makes you think that the Apes look "humanoid" as effect of alien evolution/nuclear mutation.

Well, I'd need to watch them again to confirm what you are saying. Perhaps I just didn't get that impression or missed something when watching Escape. from memory I thought the apes went back in time and the movie is saying that it is because they went back in time they are what caused the whatever is in the original, but I haven't seen the sequels from after that. I assumed that the nuclear explosion is a result of something the apes do in the sequels after Escape. Again, I'd need to watch all of them to be sure.

I didn't assume that the apes were like they were necessarily because of the nuclear war in the original btw. Is that specifically stated and I just don't remember or is it something people just assume? If it isn't specifically stated then Escape doesn't necessarily retcon anything.
