Started my concert "career" seeing Sammy Davis, Jr., of all people, at Summerfest (annual, 10 day summer music festival) in Milwaukee in the late 60's......I was only about 8 or 9 and accompanying my parents who went to see him, back when Summerfest didn't charge extra (it was included with your admission fee to the grounds.....which was probably only a few bucks anyway) to see the Headliner on the mainstage. At 18 I saw the Electric Light Orchestra in 1978 on their "Out of the Blue" tour, and though they put on a GREAT show, the 'bummer' here was that we never got to see their highly-touted, state of the art and VERY expensive 'spaceship stage' that we had heard about for so long, because the outdated Milwaukee Arena couldn't accommodate it's HUGE size (A side note, I took the love of my life (an INCREDIBLY beautiful, smart girl from a WONDERFUL Egyptian family, that sadly, was not as 'crazy' about me as I was for her!) on one of my very first dates that night, after (somehow) screwing up the courage to actually ask her out!)! Then saw Billy Joel at the Milwaukee Arena in '79 or '80 on his "Glass Houses" tour......probably the second best show I've ever been to (Nothing particularly special about his show.....other than his AMAZING setlist of songs, his INCREDIBLE piano playing and all his gifted band members (Richie Cannata and Liberty DeVitto, among others!), and overall GREAT sound and 'production' values!!). Saw R.E.O. Speedwagon at Alpine Valley (East Troy, WI) in the late 70's/early 80's, which was probably the worst show I've ever been to......not because they put on a bad show, but because we were too close (and YES, I actually am complaining about being TOO close!), and PERFECTLY lined up (our seats were about 20 rows back, or so) with the HUGE speakers they had at ground level, and ended up getting our ears blown off from the INCREDIBLY loud music that just NEVER let up all night long (I know, I know......weird thing for someone to say who was there to see a rock act.....but it was just SO loud, and SO bad that at one point that night I remember thinking that I just couldn't make it to the end of the show (though I did), and how, for a couple days after, my ears were STILL 'ringing' from the show that night). Saw Kansas in 1980 (their "Audio-Visions" tour, I believe), again, at the Milwaukee Arena, and sat 6th row from the stage, which were the best tickets I ever had to a show that I got myself by standing in line to buy tickets on the day they first went on sale (anybody remember THOSE good 'ol days? (and do people EVER physically go down and buy tickets at the box office to ANY show anymore?)). Oh, and they too put on a VERY good show !! Saw one of my favorite bands of all time, Chicago, on the Summerfest grounds (NOT during Summerfest) in 1979 on their "Hot Streets" tour, and they REALLY put on a great show (So LOVE their INCREDIBLE 'fusion' of brass and rock !!).....however, the downer on this one was the fact that their AMAZING guitarist, Terry Kath (who Jimi Hendrix himself considered one of the greatest guitarists of that era!), had killed himself the year before by messing around with a handgun he thought was not loaded (his last words reportedly were, " Don't worry about it ... Look, the clip is not even in it ......... What do you think I’m gonna do? Blow my brains out?", just before putting the gun to his head and pulling the trigger).... Saw Springsteen, who's the only act I've ever seen live more than once, first on the "Born In The U.S.A." tour in 1984 (Alpine Valley), where we sat on 'lawn seats' up on a hill that were so far back, we watched most of the show on his large video screen mounted above the stage that he had for that tour, something that was VERY new to concert touring at that time! The second time was at Milwaukee's Bradley Center in early 1990, and both shows were great, and EASILY the longest concerts I've ever been to.....something he's obviously known for.... Saw The Bangles in 1987 at Summerfest in Milwaukee, where you now had to pay a separate fee for tickets to the headliner's show, and something that was no longer included as part of the admission fee to the Summerfest grounds. The highlight of that show was getting to drink in the sight of my all-time rock star crush, Susanna Hoffs, all night long !! Will always remember how INCREDIBLY tiny she seemed, and how INCREDIBLY large her Rickenbacker guitar looked in comparison to her petite frame (also remember Bruce Hornsby and The Range opening for them (and shooting part of the Music Video for the song, "Look Out Any Window" during their performance), and probably the 'biggest name' I've ever seen as an opening act)!! And finally, the single best show I've ever been to (and actually the last music concert I've attended (though I've been to a TON of comedy shows since then), since there's NO way I'd ever be able to top it !!), getting to sit SECOND ROW (thanks to my brother, who worked for a Milwaukee entertainment company, and was able to secure those UNBELIEVABLE seats for me and three of my friends!) at Soldier Field in Chicago, for Paul McCartney on July 29th, 1990, during the "Flowers In The Dirt" leg of his multiple year World Tour (and will forever remember, due to our close proximity to the stage, actually feeling the heat on my face from the HUGE array of multiple banks of flashpots that all went off in unison on the crescendo of "Live and Let Die"....and DISTINCLY remember the brief thought of the next day's news headline flashing through my mind right when they all went off had there been a problem; " 4 die and hundreds burned when pyrotechnics malfunction at Paul McCartney concert in Chicago").......suffice it to say though, that that did NOT end up happening, and that there were absolutely NO "bummers" on that WONDERFULLY MAGICAL night !! www.the-paulmccartney-project.com/concert/1990-07-29/SAVE FERRIS

Been to a ton of concerts and my favorite was my last. In 2017, me and the missus decided to go see Tom Petty in Rochester. Out of a clear blue sky, my daughter texted me "Heard you and Jen are going to see Tom Petty. Can you get me a ticket?" I was floored. She just turned 19. I knew she listened to all music, from Mozart to Marilyn Manson but she never talked about TP. And we had the time of out lives. She was genuinely heartbroken (no pun intended) when Petty died. I cannot imagine going to a concert with my father.

SAVE FERRIS Great stuff!! Very jealous you got to see Sammy Davis, Jr., what a treat that must have been. It's funny, I have spent about 35 of my 42 years living on Long Island and I've never seen Billy Joel, despite ample opportunity to do so. For me, pretty much any veteran performer is worth checking out (except country musicians) and I have no doubt that he puts on a great show even though I'm not exactly the biggest fan. He plays at the garden all the time so it's not like I never get the chance. As for Paul McCartney, hell yeah! I only saw him once, back in 2002 at Staples Center when I was living LA. As with you, it was one of the best live shows I've ever seen. He played for about 3 hours, it was the perfect mix of Beatles, Wings and solo stuff, he sounded pitch perfect, he engaged the audience, just perfect in every way.

Just scored tickets for Alt-J and Portugal, The Man (not my favorite, but hey) for MSG in April, and Tool is going on sale for February in the brand spanking new UBS Arena, new home of the Islanders. Getting 2022 lined up nicely already.
Who is on tap?

Going to go see the Rolling Stones on Monday. Was going to see Nine Inch Nails around Labor Day but they canceled.
So far the only concerts I've been to are Smash Mouth way back in 2006 (I was 11 and they were my favorite band) and Joe Bonamassa back in March, 2020. Despite being a huge music nerd, going to concerts was never something I bothered with. Had opportunities to see Kendrick Lamar, Tyler, The Creator, Thom Yorke before, and was also going to go see the Pixies with Weezer down in Columbus last year. Didn't get to see the first three because I either wasn't able to get tickets for them or I was about to get tickets but had no one to go with and decided not to bother with it. With Pixies and Weezer, didn't get to go because the pandemic shut everything down.

Nine Inch Nails is one of my most frequented concerts. I've seen them around 20 times. They are easily among the best live touring acts these days. Trent is an audiophile and the sound at every concert I've been to of theirs is top notch, even at the shitty Jones Beach venue where the sound is generally awful. When they come back around, definitely try to go if you can. Tell you what, if you get Nine Inch Nails and nobody wants to go with you, I'll drive down/over and we'll go together.

The last 2 shows I went to were vax only and they checked cards/passports which I’m all for. I realize it’s not foolproof and it’s not 100% safe and all that, but it’s a start and both shows were outside for what that’s worth.

I’d be going “huh” for the next three weeks Ear plugs, the veteran move for concert goers. I always have them and I'd say I use them at some point during most of the shows I go to. I always prefer GA and I like to get close but when you go to as many as shows as I like to go to, you need to protect your hearing. I can't tell you how many times during a show when some needledick next to me legit talked shit to me when I saw I had them, only to turn around and ask me if I had an extra pair of them a little while later.

I am going to go see Genesis tonight. I didn’t even know they were in town, but a co-worker had tickets that he was not going to be able to use, so he was offering them at a discount, and I was the only one interested. I can’t say I am a fan of Genesis but it should be fun, especially since I haven’t been to a rock concert in years.

My general rule of thumb is that any veteran act will put on a good show, even if you're not a huge fan of the music (except for veteran country acts, which is like the wendigo from The Happening). The reviews of this tour have been positive overall, even though Phil Collins' health isn't great. I'm assuming that Peter Gabriel will not be making a guest appearance.

Not sure it qualifies as a 'rock concert' at this point, but the unintentional comedy could be worth it. Look at that photo. Is Phil Collins telling you to repent, or insisting you get off his lawn? Seriously though, you can't beat live music so it should be fun. Let us know how it goes!

Got tickets to see Pavement in Los Angeles - - in September of 2022. Some people don't know them, but they sold out their dates very quickly - - had to add shows in LA and Brooklyn to meet more of the demand (three shows in LA; four in Brooklyn). First time they'll be touring the states in 12 years.
