Well, we have what are you watching, what are you reading and what are you listening to threads, how about a concerts thread? Probably not as active a thread as the others, but we all enjoy a good live show now and again, no? So, have at it, friends, what shows are you seeing?
Saturday, I went to see Wilco at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, one of my favorite venues due to its great sound, and the ease of getting to and fro. They also have historically amazing lineups. Seriously, go google the lineups from back in the day at this venue.
Anyway, Sleater-Kinney opened, and they were a quality opening act, Carrie Brownstein (lead guitar and vocal) was particularly jazzed up. Of course, because we can't have nice things, about a half hour into the set, a venue staffer came up to the mic and told everyone to scramble inside the concourse because "severe weather" was on its way. No sooner did we get off the floor did the downpour start, with a dazzling lightning show. The venue then announced that the rest of the show was canceled because of the lightning.
So we waited in the concourse for the rain stop so we could leave, and while we're there, we can see the roadies setting up for Wilco. Very odd, so we waited, and sure enough, at about 9:00 (a half hour after they were supposed to start), they came on. The remaining crowd filtered in and off they went, one of my favorite acts.
....and of course, another half hour later, it started pouring like something straight out of the bible. We tolerated it for about 10 minutes and that was it.
I also went to Jimmy Buffet two weeks ago as my buddy had an extra ticket. Wow, I have no interest in that kind of music, at all, but we tailgated for about 9 hours in the parking lot, which was awesome. Hung out in the VIP tent during the show before bailing. It's crazy, people LOVE that guy. I don't really see the appeal, but that's just my worthless opinion.
Who have you seen? Who is on the docket? The world wants to know.

My first concert already cancelled . I was supposed to see Shellac on September 11th, but they cancelled the West Coast swing of their tour. I'm supposed to see Rocket from the Crypt in late October for their annual Halloween show. Hoping COVID won't shut that one down. At least they don't have to travel (San Diego band playing in San Diego).

I have Dr. Dog in September, and Rodrigo y Gabriela in October, both at outdoor venues in Manhattan, so hopefully they both remain. Wilco required proof of vax to enter.

Haven't been to a concert in eight years. Last one was Rammstein eight years ago in Cleveland. Great show but it made me feel live shows is for the young. Bookended my first. In 1978 I snuck out of the house, went to Erie to see Black Sabbath. My parents had heard of Sabbath and Ozzy so I HAD to sneak out. And Sabbath flat out sucked. Ozzy was nearly comatose on drugs or booze. It was obvious the rest of the band was pissed. Tony Iommi just looked at Ozzy and shook his head. Geezer Butler actually swung is bass at Mr. Osbourne at the end. Compounding the suckiness was the fact that the relatively unknown opening act blew Sabbath off the stage and into the lake. The Band?

Nothing recent. I saw the traditional Japanese drums group Kodo maybe two years ago, and my favourite Inuit singer Elisapie Isaac around the same time. Last Rock concert I went to was Sigur RĂłs probably about eight years ago.

I meant that, for the most part, I think new music is not for me. And any band that still tours and would appeal to me is a band I've seen too many times. seen the Stones eight times and eight is enough. And it isn't easy when you are well over 50, use a cane and want to go to a show with a bunch of whacked out kiddies.

I hear you, man, didn't mean to be flippant about it and I totally understand. Some shows, my friends and I are the oldest folks there (whereas at Buffet, we were the youngest). For the most part, at any EDM show we go to, it's all teenagers....and us. I'm 42. At Panorama a few years, some smartass little punk was standing next to me at DJ Shadow and between songs, he turns to me and says "man, I hope I'm still doing cool shit when I'm your age." Fuck you, dickhead.

Well, I'll be the out of touch dag and say the 3 most recent I've been to are Idina Mendel at the Sydney Opera House. She was quite funny and sang songs from Rent, Chess, Frozen and of course Wicked.
Next one was a local production of Rock of Ages at the Bathurst Entertainment Centre. Some surprisingly strong voices on show. My best friend's brother Dave played Stacee Jaxx and did a lot of the lead guitar riffs. One of the couriers I knew from working at the Western Advocate was the narrator and he was very good too.
And the most recent was again at the Sydney Opera House. Last concert at the main hall before the refurbished. Lea Salonga. Her brother Gerald conducted. She performed songs from Miss Saigon, Aladdin, Mulan and Les Miserables. That was a fun night with a mainly Filipino crowd. My wife is Indonesia and, like most Asians, was blown away by her diction.

Nothing "out of touch" about that at all. This is a thread for those who love live music, in whatever form it takes. Oh, you went to see Alien Ant Farm at the bar on the highway that serves minors? Awesome. You caught the Bobby Darin cover band in the New Haven Marriott conference room? Hell yeah, was it packed? I've never been to the Sydney Opera House. Well, I've never been to Australia so there's that. I'd love to go one day. Is it a good venue for shows? Radio City is a beautiful, historic venue in NYC but for non-opera type concerts it kinda sucks. The acoustics just aren't right.

I'm a little skeptical about having an experimental drug injected into me, so because of that, I'm no longer allowed to enjoy stuff like that, so what are you gonna do.
It was a free country, I got to experience about 50 years of that, so I'll survive not seeing shows with the "sophisticated".
My biggest question right now is why I'm only allowed to post responses on the IMDb2 sports board and nowhere else? And how come I'm not allowed to create any threads here. I'm not expecting a response from the tyrant who runs the place, just wondering if anyone else here might know the reason.
Banned from attending concerts, banned from freely operating on IMDb2...... it ain't easy thinking for yourself these days, I gotta tell you.
Conform, or be cast out. Some good band sang that once.

I’m not gonna bother addressing the vaccine aspects of your post but if you don’t want to get banned from websites such as this one maybe don’t repeatedly say “fuck you, pussy” to the admin. Not saying it doesn’t mean you’re selling out or love Joe Biden or anything. Give it a try.

Funny you mention the acoustics as the Opera House's aren't great. They'd actually got a sound engineer to plan the shape of the main concert hall when it was designed in 1959 to take all that into the account, but the state government that was in by the time it was ready to start construction worked out they could fit more people in if they reversed the configuration of the hall. It is a magnificent venue though. Inside and out. Not sure how it looks after the refurb, but I'm sure it's still spectacular.

How would you have reacted? Because I've seen YOU tell others here to "fuck off" before, so I'm not sure what's the difference. Matter of fact, you have told me to "fuck off" a couple of times on Sunday NFL threads when I've razzed you during Eagles losses. What's the difference, big guy? Do you think I should be punished while you're not for doing the exact same thing?

Are you really this full of shit, or do you have something better to offer than the "wearing shoes and shirt at a 7-11" argument? I have noticed that a few of my vaccinated friends seem to be a bit dumber these days, perhaps a bit numb on the top. Hope this isn't happening to you, but based on some of your recent posts that I've seen, I can't help but be concerned.

To keep us on track, the worst* concert I ever saw was Santana at Jazz Fest in...I wanna say 1999. I was pretty amped up for it, being a big fan of his albums. Anyway, he came out, played one song (maybe Black Magic Woman) and it was cool, then he launched into this prolonged solo that just wasn't very interesting. Then he left the stage altogether, for like a half hour. After an uninspired jam session from his backup band, he came back out, played Smooth to get one big jolt from the crowd and then that was it.
Totally disappointing.
* Worst meaning one that I actually got to see, but excluding force majeure type of events. So I won't include Field Day in 2003, where Beck broke his leg while walking on stage and caused a 3-hour delay in the proceedings.

Frankly, the arguments you're making about having your freedoms suppressed are the same ones that people made when shoes and shirts became a thing, and when seatbelts became a thing. So I ask you, do you consider wearing shoes inside a restaurant to be infringing upon your rights? You can't answer a simple question? You have to resort to ad hominem attacks? Thank you for your concern, I'm good though.
