That's how my wife feels about Dave Matthew's voice. She thinks he's just whiny yet I've seen DMB around 20 times. To each their own! It's hilarious to see her reactions. I'll sneak a Dylan song on a playlist, a long one like Desolation Row. She tires to ignore him, then she gets madder and madder. Then the snippy comments spew out. 'Who the fuck told him he could sing? He sings like a bullfrog with a slit throat! People actually BUY his music?" And she can't get me back. She can't stand C/W or hip Hop any more than I can. She knows I don't like the Bee Gees disco era but i can deal with it.
I'm the same with Bob Dylan... Undoubtedly a talented musician and song writer, but I can't be doing with his singing voice either. I think it's too nasally, if that's a word... He's bearable when he's with the Travelling Willburys, the others cover his voice up.

Went to my last 4 shows of the year over the summer, all first timers. Incubus at the end of July, and Guns N' Roses and Arctic Monkeys at the end of August. Guns N' Roses was on the hottest day of the year, felt something like 110 degrees the day of, but fortunately it had cooled off, if only a bit, by showtime. Just before they went on a nice cool breeze blew into the venue and people actually cheered fairly loudly. The Pretenders opened for them but I didn't make it in time. Guns put on very good, surprisingly lengthy show, especially given their age.
The 4th show wasn't a concert, or not a music one anyway. It was Dave Chappelle 2 weeks ago. First time seeing him as well, and he absolutely delivered. Kinda had cheaper seats though as they were insanely expensive. I think he has another special coming out, since before he went on the Netflix logo came on screen and promoted something called "The Lunatic's Manifesto."

I saw Arctic Monkeys at Forest Hills a few weeks ago. My 4th (I think) time seeing them. Did you like them? I think they get better and better every time I see them.

I did like them, although my seats weren't great (in the pit). I got there somewhat late and thoroughly underestimated how packed it would be.

We were going to see Aerosmith's farewell tour but Tyler's larnyx is shot. Who knows if he's ever going to recover
And we had hoped to see Springsteen in March. Until I seen that I'd have to cough up $3,200 for two mid level floor seats. Sorry, even if Bruce blew me after would I spend that much. First concert tix I bought set me back $14, for Black Sabbath and Van Halen. $17 for The Stones, Journey and George Thoroughgood

Have you guys seen the footage coming out about the Sphere in Vegas? Holy fucking shitballs. I've never seen U2, and I'm not a huge fan, but I've always wanted to see them, given that they're a veteran act who supposedly puts on a great show. For their residency in Vegas, I may have to take the plunge for a quick road trip next time I'm in California. If Nine Inch Nails or Radiohead play there, there's no way I'm not going.

Went to my first concert of the year this past weekend, Led Zeppelin 2. I think it’s safe to say at this point that Zeppelin won’t ever perform again (hot take, I know) and as far as cover bands go, they weren’t bad, though their song selection was annoying. Supposedly, they emailed people that bought tickets what their top three Zep songs are so they would play those, and they did because I replied, but I still don’t know if that’s what they played. I don’t want to hear Stairway to Heaven, When the Levee Breaks or Dazed and Confused, no. By all means, break out Thank You D’yer Maker Tangerine and That’s the Way instead. Different strokes and all that gibberish, but I have a hard time believing people have any of those in their the top three. They did finish strong, though, busting out Achilles Last Stand from out of nowhere and closing with Kashmir.
And the freaking parking was more than the ticket. At least it was valet, and it was freezing balls outside that night.

I went to see Elisapie last night, my favourite Inuit singer. I have been a fan for many years and have all five of her albums, three of them autographed and with a dedication. She sings in her native language, in English and in French. I prefer the ones in Inuktitut, even though of course I don’t understand a word of it. I guess not understanding it makes it easier to just appreciate the beautiful voice and melodies. In her latest album she took several international hits that she loved when growing up and translated them into Inuktitut. Here’s Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here

Went to see the Eagles - sorry, just "Eagles" - last weekend on their farewell tour...that will continue into next year. Not the biggest fan, but I like them enough and they're a legendary band, so I figured I'd go see them on this last tour. Don Henley joked "We're going to get shit if we do another tour after this." They busted out the classics, Hotel California, One of These Nights, etc. They were great. My first and probably last time seeing them.
But speaking of retiring...Joe Walsh looked like he should've retired 20 years ago. I don't know what kind of life he led, but he looked rough.

He sounds rough in interviews, I can only imagine what he looks like. Never been an Eagles fan, but I'm glad it was a fun show.

Shit, I've been slacking on this.
Saw Band of Horses at the Paramount in Huntington, NY, a nifty little venue on Long Island. Not my favorite band, but went with a group of my buddies and that's always a fun time. First time seeing them.
Last week, I saw Cold War Kids at Webster Hall. Again, not my favorite band, and the lead singer is kind of a portly doofus, but they were pretty solid all around. My second time seeing them. The best part about going to Webster Hall is that Ippudo is around the corner, and Ippudo rocks!
