Got my tickets to see Iron Maiden October 5 next year. A ways away, but it's done. On a related note, absolutely fuck Ticketmaster to the fiery depths of hell. Those jagoffs have completely monopolized the concert going experience. Yes!! That should be an awesome show. Do you mind if I ask where you're seeing them? Who are the openers? And yes, FUCK Ticketmaster. They are the absolute worst. There was hope years ago when Live Nation became a viable alternative, but then they merged 10 years ago and basically John Q. Public got totally railroaded. Now they have exclusivity deals at basically every major venue in the country so on top of the price gouging for the ticket, they can charge "order processing fees," "venue fees" (or facility charges) and they even charge fucking "delivery fees" (also called service fees).....when you simply show your ticket in their app. It's such horseshit. They could simply charge $1 per every ticket they sell for their "service" and still be a gargantuan company. United Center in Chicago (I think). Not sure who's opening for them.

I was trying to think who I know that would go see them, lol. Right now the Concord Pavilion schedule for 2022 is all 70s/80s/90s bands. Earth Wind Fire, hall and Oates, Backstreet Boys. I don't think I saw one current band on their list, lol.

Saw Tool last night at the brand-spanking new UBS Arena in Queens.
The show itself was ridiculous. I don't cite Tool as one of my favorite bands or anything, but from a musicianship standpoint, it's hard to top them. They use a lot of unusual time signatures that vary from song to song, and even with songs themselves....and sometimes even the band members are using different signatures, which is really impressive. But through it all, they're as tight as any band currently touring. And Maynard is fucking awesome.
For my brothers in the tri-state area, the UBS Arena is pretty sweet. It's basically everything that Barclays isn't....it's chic and clean, bright and spacious, it's easy to get to for pretty much everyone. The only thing is that the surrounding area sucks and there's nothing to do pre-game/concert. Barclays at least has a great walkable area with tons of restaurants, bars and everything in between. UBS has a shitty residential area and not much else. Still, the venue itself is gorgeous.
Next up, an impromptu trip to SXSW!

Saw Tool Next up, an impromptu trip to SXSW! I don't get downtown much as the parking is ridiculous and expensive now and I'm an old introvert, but maybe we could meet up for a suds. I went to the film festival from 2004 to 2008, but only got down there for a film or band or two since.

I haven't booked it yet and I won't be exclusively at the actual festival itself when I'm there, but I'll keep you posted.

They were pretty heavy, industrial type of band. Think of what Tool's first EP, Opiate, sounded like. It was like a shittier version of that. Dude, Tool was awesome. I saw them at Barclays in 2019 and at Roseland way back in 1994. They have come such a long way during those nearly 30 years. A really impressive group of musicians.

Saw a concert advertised Tuesday and bought tickets almost immediately. Bush and Breaking Benjamin supporting with Alice in Chains headlining August 24th.

Forgot to post, going to see Incubus August 14th. Awesome! Where at? I honestly didn’t know they were still together, I wouldn’t mind seeing them again. It’s been….a long time.

Caught Alt-J last night at MSG, with Portugal, The Man as the opener. I'm not a huge PTM fan, but Alt-J was outstanding, as they usually are. The first time I saw them was at Coachella I want to say back in 2015 when they had just burst onto the scene. They were good, for sure, but they've come so far since then. I'm a sucker for a 3-member band that produces a tight and unique sound and these guys are a terrific live act. Check them out if they come around. This was my 4th time seeing them (2nd headline).
Dinner was at Her Name is Han, an awesome, small-plates Korean BBQ place on 31st street. That place was fantastic!
I have Spoon tickets for this Saturday that I can't use. No joke, if any of my NY or tri-state area friends want em, let me know and we'll figure it out.

Haven't been to a concert in eight years. Last one was Rammstein eight years ago in Cleveland. Great show but it made me feel live shows is for the young. Bookended my first. In 1978 I snuck out of the house, went to Erie to see Black Sabbath. My parents had heard of Sabbath and Ozzy so I HAD to sneak out. And Sabbath flat out sucked. Ozzy was nearly comatose on drugs or booze. It was obvious the rest of the band was pissed. Tony Iommi just looked at Ozzy and shook his head. Geezer Butler actually swung is bass at Mr. Osbourne at the end. Compounding the suckiness was the fact that the relatively unknown opening act blew Sabbath off the stage and into the lake. The Band? My brother went to that concert and said the same thing. He also saw Sabbath with Blue Oyster Cult during the Black and Blue tour, he said BOC blew Sabbath away. My first concert was the Stones at JFK stadium. I cut school with some friends and took the train into the city to go, I'd kick my kid's ass if he did that!

I know JFK was the first stop. Rich Stadium in Orchard Park was the 2nd and I was there. Two opening acts. Journey was one and the sucked. I'm not a Journey fan, I'll admit, but they were just going through the motions. The first opener was George Thorogood and the Destroyers and they kicked ass. No one was really familiar with Lonesome George but he knocked everyone's socks off.
I've seen them Rolling Stones eight times and that was probably the best of the eight.
Have to remember, no one had heard of Van Halen. They were just looked on as some garage band who got booked to open for Sabbath to appease some promoter of record exec. About five minutes in and the crowd was saying "Holy fuck, the kid with the curly hair can really play guitar!". When we got back to buffalo, we all stopped at Cavages and bought the first album. I still have it.

It was the year that Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and the Red Hot Chili Peppers headlined the last night. I'd never heard of Alt J at that point, but they were one of the standouts of that weekend. I haven't even thought of Spoon in like 20 years. Sounds cool, but I've got Passover and Easter things to go to all weekend.

Dude, that was the year of the sandstorm on Sunday night during Chili Peppers! I remember hiding out in the Mojave tent during their set, and I got brutally sick afterwards. For weeks, I was hacking all sorts of nastiness from that storm. Ugh. Also, yup, same issue for this Saturday. I didn't realize it was Passover (because I'm the worst Jewish person in the world, as my wife would tell you) so I bought these tickets willy-nilly and now I can't unload them. Oh well.

Sounds like we may have been at different weekends of Coachella, since I don't recall a sandstorm. Or I just forgot about it and we were standing right next each other. I guess we'll never know.

I must've been at weekend 2 then (I'm sure I could find this info out if I wanted to), since I don't recall the Mad Max Fury Road atmosphere.
