Not one I attended, but the South Park anniversary concert from Red Rocks that aired on TV was awesome. There's so much great music from the show that it could have gone on much longer but it was great. Matt and Trey played with Primus and Ween the whole time, and it included the first appearance by Rush after the death of Neil Peart. I'm not really a Rush fan, but that was a great surprise moment, especially for Matt Stone who didn't know it was coming and played the drums, effectively filling for Peart and being the 3rd member of the band for that moment.
It was great watch. I'd recommend it.

I've been delaying posting about this one, but a few Saturdays ago (two days after seeing RATM) I saw Roger Waters at the UBS Arena at the Belmont (where the Islanders play) in a theater-in-the-round type of setup, which setup was pretty awesome. According to setlist.fm, this was my 7th Waters show, but I've definitely seen him more than that.
Where to begin...
I love Pink Floyd, one of my favorite all time bands. Anytime you can see a living member of this band playing Floyd stuff is a cause for celebration. And when he played those songs, it sounded amazing. Specifically, Sheep (from Animals, their most underappreciated album), opening with Another Brick in the Wall (1 and 2) which was fucking awesome, and the closed the second set with the second half of Dark Side, which just blew me away.
His voice sounded great, his band was tight and everything was mixed perfectly.
But......
We all know about Waters' political leanings, the lion's share of which I agree with and some of which I don't, but whatever. He's entitled to his opinions and he's clearly an intelligent guy. And having seen Waters a bunch of times, I know that he will make a political statement here, a jab at the right wing there, and that's all fine. But this show was 100% littered with political jibber jabber. When he wasn't openly criticizing basically everyone, the massive display was constantly throwing up images of people who were killed by cops, every US President over the last 40 years with a "War Criminal" stamp on their face, lots about Israel and Palestine and just random statistics about how life is unfair.
Again, that's all fine and well in and of itself, and this is going to sound obnoxious, but I don't go to those shows for that. I know that's what right wingers say about things like kneeling during the anthem (which is a crock of shit, given that they can't masturbate fast enough when 9 people at a Nascar race start yelling Fuck You Biden), but it was the entire show. A comment here and there, fine. The whole show? No thank you.
It made the crowd antsy for a variety of reasons, with it being split between people hating the message itself, and others, like myself, who just wanted to have a fun digression from the poison that exists everywhere else in society. I get it, we live in fucked up times, but political fervor is a self-perpetuating construct that creates the very vitriol that it constantly rails against when it comes to those on the other side. When you make your rock show a political rally, you're giving in to the very thing you're claiming to despise and perpetuate its existence. A rock show is a place where right wingers and I can co-exist and share a mutual love of something, which is what we need to cut through this. When you introduce a pointed message into that, you undo all of that goodwill.
Long story short, I'm not sure I'll see Waters next time he comes back around. Which is a shame.

Not me, but my sister and her family went to see Harry Styles. I don't even know who he is. She and her family had a great time though.

Booked my tickets to see Muse October 11. Didn’t listen to the last album, and wasn’t a big fan of the two before that, hope for earlier material. I used to love Muse but I think I only listened to Origin of Symmetry and Absolution. Pretty sure the next one didn't really do anything for me. Having said that, I bet they're a great band to see live.Saw them nearly 2 weeks ago. Yeah, you can say that. I was expecting them to be good, and I don't know if it was the venue (it was a smaller place), the audience, Muse themselves, or all of the above, but Jesus Christ, I wasn't expecting them to blow the freakin roof off the place. Easily one of the best concerts I've ever been to. They're coming back to my area in February and you bet your ass I'm going to see them again. Iron Maiden October 5th. I got there an hour/hour and half before the show started. I was in the pit (first time for them), and while it's not exactly organized in there, I was already roughly 10 rows back. Wanted to be first to the barrier. Anyway, third time seeing them, and I swear each time is better than the last. These dudes are ageless. The lead singer, the youngest of the bunch, is nearly half my age and he runs around like he's in his mid 20s. Got my tickets to see Arctic Monkeys in August of next year (obviously, not like it's this year) Looking forward to it, although I didn't care too much for the last album.

Funnily enough we got their last album since previously posting on this thread. It's really good! Must keep an eye out and see if they're appearing anywhere over here in the near future...

Hell yeah man, glad you enjoyed Muse. They are an impressive live act, it kinda defies explanation how they're able to fill an arena the way that they do. I've never seen Iron Maiden, but I bet they put on a great show. For one, I always believe that veteran acts are worth seeing, even if you're not super into them. Secondly, metal fans are the most loyal fanbase in music so coupling a veteran band with an enthusiastic crowd is a win. Arctic Monkeys always put on a great show. I'm not a huge fan of any of their albums, but they always kick ass. I just grabbed tickets for them also, I think it's in late September.

Picked up two tickets for the Metallica concert that was just announced, and Jesus Christ. Almost a grand for myself and one other person, and the seats aren’t exactly perfect. I know it’s two nights, but what the shit

Muse round two. Definitely better than round one. More than that, actually.
Confession time: I only started going to concerts – get this – seven years ago. So there’s not that many, but this was probably the best concert I’ve ever been to.

Less than a month to Springsteen. I haven't been to a concert in a long time.

Was able to catch a pretty interesting little mini-fest on Friday with the Mrs. of all people! Headliners were Ziggy Marley and Trombone Shorty, both of whom played about 75-ish minutes, with Klaw personal fave Mavis Staples opening, along with Robert Randolph (who I had never heard of before). This was at, of course, Pier 17 at the South Street Seaport in lower Manhattan, easily one of the best venues in the area due to being outdoors, and right on the river.
3rd time seeing Ziggy and Mavis, and the first time seeing Trombone Shorty. I tell you what, go see this guy if you get the chance. His set was fun as hell and he was quite the showman. Highly recommend if you find yourself with an idle evening.
*My wife and I have been together for almost 16 years now and in all that time, this was but the 4th concert we attended together.

Though she did just purchase Matchbox 20 tickets for this summer and we're going with some friends. It'll be the 1st concert we've been together in over a decade.

Yeah, my wife and I have vastly different tastes as well. Where is that show, if you don't mind me asking? Not quite my cup of tea, but they've been around forever and I am generally down to see any veteran act (except for anything country or hardcore rap).

I want to see Filter in Concord in September but I have no one to go with. My wife would go with me but she's not into that kind of music and I hate to subject her to a night of it especially when down the line she might want me to go to a country concert and I'd rather have a root canal.

My wife loves country and pop. Some pop I'm ok with but I just can't get into country at all. Like you, I'll pretty much go see anybody, particularly veteran acts. Matchbox 20 wasn't my thing either. Then I went and saw them live, this was years ago, and they are one of the few bounds that sound the same if not better live than they do in the studio. Rob Thomas' voice live sounds like you're listening to the radio. From then on I had a whole new respect for them. Concert is in July at the Arts Center in Jersey. If you've never seen them, I'd recommend it.

A few minor divergences, she likes Disco more than I and she cannot stand Bob Dylan's voice

Country music makes me want to run screaming and naked into a burning building. I just cannot tolerate it. The closest I get is Wilco, and occasionally I'll bop my head to a Nathaniel Rateliff song. That's it. Going to school down in Louisiana, that shit was just, ugh, it was everywhere. It all sounds the same, and it all sounds like shit.

That's how my wife feels about Dave Matthew's voice. She thinks he's just whiny yet I've seen DMB around 20 times. To each their own!

That's how my wife feels about Dave Matthew's voice. She thinks he's just whiny yet I've seen DMB around 20 times. To each their own! It's hilarious to see her reactions. I'll sneak a Dylan song on a playlist, a long one like Desolation Row. She tires to ignore him, then she gets madder and madder. Then the snippy comments spew out. 'Who the fuck told him he could sing? He sings like a bullfrog with a slit throat! People actually BUY his music?" And she can't get me back. She can't stand C/W or hip Hop any more than I can. She knows I don't like the Bee Gees disco era but i can deal with it.
