Saw Slipknot in LA a few weeks ago. They were great. Opening band Bring Me The Horizon, little like Lincoln Park only heaver, was also very good. Where in LA did you see them? Some incredible venues throughout California, up and down. The soccer field thingie next to the Colliseum.

I am going to go see Genesis tonight. I didn’t even know they were in town, but a co-worker had tickets that he was not going to be able to use, so he was offering them at a discount, and I was the only one interested. I can’t say I am a fan of Genesis but it should be fun, especially since I haven’t been to a rock concert in years. Not sure it qualifies as a 'rock concert' at this point, but the unintentional comedy could be worth it. Look at that photo. Is Phil Collins telling you to repent, or insisting you get off his lawn? Seriously though, you can't beat live music so it should be fun. Let us know how it goes! It was great fun! The Bell Centre (where the Habs play) was full and the crowd was very enthusiastic. As you said, you can’t beat live music. Every time I go to a show I tell myself I should do it more often, but then I end up not following through. It was a bit … strange … seeing Phil Collins walk onto the stage with a cane and spending the whole time sitting on a chair, but not nearly to the point of affecting my enjoyment.

Yeah man, I'm fortunate in that I live in a place that is littered with live music - huge concerts in large venues, mid-scale venues with quality acts, and of course all the local music and jazz clubs.

I'm not really a fan of Phil Collins at all, but he's still one of the legendary guys that I'd be more than happy to see in person.

While we are on the subject of veteran rock stars, after Genesis yesterday I checked out the upcoming concerts and saw that Elton John is coming to Montreal in February. I bought my tickets just now!
And in May it will be George Thorogood and the Destroyers. I might go for that too. That will be in a much smaller venue with seats on the balcony and general admission for the floor (standing only).

Do it, I can practically guarantee that will be great show.

I seen Thorogood in '81 when he opened for Journey and the Stones. They made Journey look like Granny's Polka Band and a lot of people thought they made the Stones look poor. He did rock

Got my tickets to see Iron Maiden October 5 next year. A ways away, but it's done.
On a related note, absolutely fuck Ticketmaster to the fiery depths of hell. Those jagoffs have completely monopolized the concert going experience.

Those jagoffs have completely monopolized the concert going experience. Yes!! That should be an awesome show. Do you mind if I ask where you're seeing them? Who are the openers? And yes, FUCK Ticketmaster. They are the absolute worst. There was hope years ago when Live Nation became a viable alternative, but then they merged 10 years ago and basically John Q. Public got totally railroaded. Now they have exclusivity deals at basically every major venue in the country so on top of the price gouging for the ticket, they can charge "order processing fees," "venue fees" (or facility charges) and they even charge fucking "delivery fees" (also called service fees).....when you simply show your ticket in their app. It's such horseshit. They could simply charge $1 per every ticket they sell for their "service" and still be a gargantuan company.

Agree on "Selling England" but The Lamb's a bit of a mess, should've been a single album, not as good as "Nursery Cryme". Mind you the band was over once Hackett left. Hard to listen to anything after that.

Elton's voice is utterly shot now, not sure I could bear to hear him attempting to flatten every note over a certain pitch. The Destroyers are one I've always wanted to see myself.

That's a shame. It's funny, when I was a kid my dad would listen to Elton John sometimes and I'd always make fun of him - "what is this easy listening shit you listen to?" kinda thing. Then I turned 40 and saw Rocketman and naturally found myself really enjoying the songs and even adding some Elton John albums to my library. Ugh, I've become everything I've always hated!

It may end up being moot, as the provincial government has closed all entertainment venues because of the meteoric rise in the number of cases of Covid. Not sure they will be reopened by February, and even if they are, it will most likely be with limited capacity.

The early stuff was great, his voice never really recovered from his throat op around 1980 ish, he lost a lot of the high notes but managed to adjust somewhat. Sadly though the bootlegs I have heard of late are pretty grim.

I always sorta liked him. As easy listening-ish as the songs could be considered, it's funny that he was kind of a radical in his day for his style and theatricality. I saw him maybe like 10 years ago at Mohegan Sun with my family because my mom was always a big fan. Halfway through the show he brought out Leon Russell as a surprise guest. I had no idea who he was at the time, but have since learned that he was a minor legend and one of Elton John's biggest inspirations as a piano player, and they were working on an album together. Anyway, it was great. The whole show. He played so many great old hits that everyone was on board when he got to the new stuff, and it was all the more energized when Leon Russell came out. The only old timer that I saw that I can recall playing literally everything you'd have wanted to hear was Tom Petty. It was the same kind of deal where he played every hit that we all knew so we were all totally along for the ride when he played some new stuff. One of the most fun shows I ever saw for sure.
