Just finished watching it... and HOLY SHIT! I did not expect it to be that good. The trailers did not do this movie justice. It's not the best MCU movie IMO but it's definitely top tier. Best action scenes in any MCU movie anyway and a surprising amount of heart. And to think I had almost zero interest in seeing this originally. Glad I changed my mind I haven't watched Shang-Chi yet but I highly doubt it has the best action scenes in the MCU. I can confidently say that. I enjoyed it. The theater was more packed than I've seen since they re-opened. My kids roommates declared it the best MCU & were very taken with the lead. Both are Asian (Vietnamese? Maybe Filipino). I liked the animals, the Dragon & the 9 tails particularly I was surprised to see Trevor. Morris was cute once we got past the strangeness of it. I didn't realize the guy filming the bus fight was the street vendor from Homecoming. He did look a bit familiar

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they did get together in the sequel.

Thinking about it, I only have two big gripes.
One are the ages of the characters:unless I heard wrong, Shang ran away ten years ago when he was 15. His sister was even younger, looking maybe around 10. So they should be 25 and ~20 respectively in the present. Google tells me that Simu Liu is 32 and the actress is who plays his sister is 34. I guess 25 and 32 are close enough, but I knew while watching the movie that the actress (while no doubt beautiful and looking great for her age) was nowhere near 20.
Second, Awkwafina: I was surprised that I liked her character so much and she didn't feel annoying as the "funny" character often feels in these movies (I'm looking at you, Kat Dennings). But the whole, "What do you know, she's a crack shot with a bow and arrow" thing just feels like they realized her character was dead weight when it came to the last battle and decided to give her something to do.
Edited to fix typing mistake.

I was kind of unsure about this one going in, not a fan of martial arts movies so I had low expectations. But I'm happy to say that I enjoyed it a lot, it was very entertaining and had some well-choreographed fights. It was a little odd though as another poster mentioned to see Wong cage fighting, that really does go against his character...unless he did a complete 180 after Doctor Strange and The Snap. I'm also curious as to why Bruce was in human form, instead of "Professor Hulk" as well. But all-in-all, I really liked it. 4.5 out of 5 from me.

I had a weird thought about that (full disclosure, I live in an area where things are shut-down due to covid, so no theatres are open to see Shang-Chi, I've just been spoiling myself online cause I have next to no self-control), with her sudden archery skills. Some high schools have archery teams (the one across the road from my elementary school, had a Girls Archery team), and some even have archery clubs, and there are sometimes summer camp things you can go to where you learn archery, so it isn't totally inconceivable that a somewhat random city girl has some skill with a bow. That being said, I'd hope if that was the backstory explanation Disney was going with, that they'd have even a throwaway line where Shang-Chi gives her a look like, "When did you become Legolas?", and Katy says something like, "Archery club champion from 2007 to 2012!"

That would only have made sense if they showed her already having some kind of skill when she first picked up the bow. I don't recall seeing any. Full disclosure, I'm an archer (trad). Have competed in national competitions. What she accomplished with only 3 days of practice is pretty much impossible. Even just the strength necessary to pull the bow would have taken years to work up to. Now granted, I'm willing to suspend a certain amount of disbelief for fictional movies, but they still should have come up with a better explanation than "she practiced for 3 days". If they had changed the timeline to even 3 months that would have at least been better, or maybe show her missing a few times before making that perfect shot. That said, the archery depicted in this movie is waaaay better than most archery shown in Hollywood. I'd go as far to say that the archery form shown in this movie might be the best in a major blockbuster yet.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they did get together in the sequel. I hope they don't. It would be refreshing to see a very close male-female blockbuster friendship that remains completely platonic. We almost never get that.

I'm not on your level, but I've practiced archery since a very young age, and I know that I'm not on the level you'd take to battle. And, despite 20+ years of practice, I can't draw back my uncle's hunting bows he uses and I would expect anything you took into battle would be something more akin to what my uncle uses to be able to hunt boars. But yes, it would have only taken a couple throw-away lines, or let her have a T-shirt on at some point that said something like, "Brooklyn Archery Club", as a little bread crumb for the audience, to be picked up later when she's suddenly good at archery.

I wasn't sure what to expect not being familiar with the character but I really enjoyed it. It probably did have some of the best action in the MCU yet, the fight choreography was very well done.
The villain was good which can be a recurring problem for the MCU and thankfully Awkwafina wasn't nearly as annoying as I was expecting.
I'd give it like a 8/10.

According to Kevin Feige, early screening audiences thought that Pokemon were in the movie, which given how much inspiration Gamefreak took from various mythologies and cultures for their Pokemon designs it really isn't all that surprising.

Not a great film, don't care if I ever see it again. I enjoyed the fight sequences, overall it was a mess. There's absolutely no reason his parents ever would've gotten together. The climactic CGI fest that ends with Shang-Chi going h2h with Cthulu or whatever was awful. I was just waiting for the movie to be over about 2/3rds of the way through, never thought I'd say that about a MCU film. I thought the characters were interesting for the most part, but again the stuff with his parents made no sense at all, and they never sold me on why his father would be dumb/insane enough to buy into the demon's trick, even after being told it was obviously a trick; even after demons kept pouring out of the cave! It didn't feel like a typical Marvel movie, which is actually a plus-- but that only made all the forced MCU references that much more distracting. Wong is a cage fighter now?! That doesn't fit with his character at all, and the idea that he's breaking Abomination out of prison to do it is beyond absurd. Trevor was completely unnecessary and while he was entertaining, they spent way too much time with him. One scene would've been enough. I didn't mind the Awkwafina character as Darcy 2.0, but let's not put her on the next Avengers roster. Speaking of which, it was fun to see Captain Marvel at the end, and to start forming the next Avengers roster in my head. It's unfortunate that that was the highpoint of the movie for me. 4/10, bottom tier of the MCU Saw it today and I agree with all of this. I really liked Simu Liu and welcome him to future MCU movies with open arms. But this movie really went off the rails halfway through. Wenwu could’ve been a great villain but he’s ultimately just a moron falling for a really random and contrived trick from a one dimensional monster. Just lame AF. It’s a shame because I was really enjoying the movie during the first half. Great action with really excellent directing and an extremely likable lead actor. The bus and scaffold fights were stellar, but then all the king fu is replaced with demons battling dragons. I wish someone had rewritten the third act to be less of a dumb CGI spectacle and more of a personal conflict between father and son.

Gotta also add that this movie contained one of the dumbest plot devices I have ever seen: a faceless animal that can communicate telepathically, but only with the stoner actor from Iron Man 3, that teaches the heroes how to enter the mythical realm because it somehow has all the turns through the magic forest perfectly memorized.
I mean… 😂😂😂😂

Meh. We never really see that friendship. They talk about it and they share screentime but they never really show that friendship. I would've thought the two of them literally fighting over who would sacrifice themselves for each other in Infinity War would've been enough to show their friendship but obviously that was too subtle for you.

I was fine with Trevor being a jester for Wenwu but pairing him up with "morris" was pretty cringey imho.
