Can we at least get some rebranding for these conferences now? If I have to accept geographical rivalries as being obsolete, let's not pretend geography is involved in any way, shape, or form.

The Big "10" hasn't had just 10 teams for 30 years. Atlantic Coast Conference is silly, but it's been silly since Louisville joined.
Is this going to be the end of realignment, once Oregon State and Washington State land somewhere? For a few years, yeah. One school I could see moving again soon is SMU. Supposedly, boosters are going to pump in hundreds of million into the program to bring it back up to the "Pony Express" days. Upgrade facilities, go after big name coaches, getting to play in the Cowboys stadium again, if front of 80,000 instead of 23,000. Dallas-Fort Worth is a huge TV market and the SEC would love to have them, if they play in a real stadium. A SMU, Texas and A&M rivalry in the SEC would be epic.
Of course, booster throwing money at SMU is what got them in the pickle they have been in since 1984. Maybe the powers that be should regularly watch the 30 For 30 "Pony Excess". They would be in the SEC already if not for the Death Penalty

Southeast Billionaires Conference. SBC is easy to logo. Big Ohio State & Others North Somewhere Conference. BOSONS is a fun name. Atlantic Florida State Clemson & Sometimes Irish & Pacific Conference. AFSCSIP they deserve that mess.

On the bright side... the 76-0 or 56-7 shellackings would all but vanish. That's not product I enjoy - why should schedule padding games be acceptable as good product.

Unless you are Notre Dame, no one wants to schedule a non-conference game when conference play starts unless they are trash. OSU and WSU aren't trash but they aren't Alabama or Ohio State either. Join the Mountain West, kick the ever loving shit out of MW competition (they should0 and make a run at a Power Four conference in 2-3 years.
BTW, good luck to your Illini Saturday, from a Penn State alumni

The rumor is college football itself will branch off from the NCAA and form its own mega 'conference', separate from the other sports. This will likely lead to regional divisions and regional rivalries in college football; the rest of the sports will return to some semblance of what the conferences were before the chaos. Fingers crossed.

How about college conference realignment every year. Take the top conferences and have a draw like the World Cup. Have the schools weighted by their finish last season and their projected strengths/weaknesses going into the coming season. Alabama could be drawn into SEC one season, Big 10 the next, PAC year after. Ohio State could be in the ACC three season running. All schools get a couple dates for traditional rivalries so Alabama-Auburn, Michigan-OSU, Duke-UNC, et al keep going. Each offseson, the big talking point will be "Group of Death" Fuck, makes as much sense as UCLA and Penn State in the same conference. Yes.

Ever since they started this attention deficit disorder/constant reorganization of college football conferences, rivalries just donβt mean anything any more. Only the local/intrastate rivalries have gravitas. But that winds up being a regional thing.
Everything else is just - watch the top 10 try to knock each other off every week and wait for the national championship playoffs.
