I said Houston would win it all back in November. They probably won't but I'm better than the ijits who picked UNC. In 2021, I picked Baylor.
I did. Honest!

Good news for NC and Michigan: No lousy Conference Championship winner so far is forcing an extra team to be included.

Scott Drew with his fifth consecutive top 10 finish in the regular season poll. His record in the last four seasons, 103-22. With a 2nd, 1st, T1st and T3rd in the Big "XII". And a national championship. All at a football school that had little success in basketball (four NCAA berths before Drew, one since 1950). And a program that should have got the Death Penalty for the kazillion infraction under Dave Bliss. Including one player killing another! Crew's first three years were terrible, 12-40, but now they are a powerhouse. I think Drew is up with Bill Self and Mark Few as the best in the business. But the media rarely talk about him

I was surprised that he didn't step down or was canned after the NCAA busted them in 2015. Jim Valvano did a lot less at NC State and he was axed. Tough to let a man go who had been coaching since Gerald Ford was President.
Fun trivia question, who is now the longest tenured coach at a power conference school? Greg Kampe has been coaching Oakland since 1984 and Ron Cottrell has been at Houston Baptist since 1991 (yeah, I had to look it up). This man has been at his job since 1995 and y'all have heard of him

Izzo? DING DING DING DING We have a winner. Tom Izzo is now the man. At Michigan State since 1995. I thought Mark Few
1. Tom Izzo - Michigan State 1995-96 2. Mark Few - Gonzaga 1999-2000 3. Mike Brey - Notre Dame 2000-01 (for the next few games) 4. Randy Bennett - Saint Mary's 2001-02 5. Leonard Hamilton - Florida State 2002-03 T6. Scott Drew - Baylor 2003-04 T6. Bill Self - Kansas 2003-04

Had it been phrased differently, I never would've guessed Izzo had been head coach since 1995. But I knew he was there in 2000 for their title run, and that wasn't his first year. Self crossed my mind, but I knew it was in the 2000s when Roy Williams left Kansas for Chapel Hill.

Mike Brey was the first that came to mind because he's been in the news, it being his final season. Then I thought Mark Few but I had to look it up because I thought there had to be someone who had been around longer that those two. Izzo is one of the rare coaches who followed a legend, Jud Heathcote and not miss a beat. I said a couple days ago how I thought that Scott Drew, Mark Few and Bill self were the best coaches in CBB and forgot about Izzo
I think it will be a long, long time before we seen a coach who stay at one school for this long.

Even I wouldn't have gotten Izzo. Didn't we have Judd Heathcote like a couple of years ago?
