UVM won their conference tournament again, pulling away late in what was otherwise a close contest. They were tight early, shooting poorly and making bonehead turnovers. But after trailing at halftime, they turned it on in the second half, with a huge contribution (15 second half points) off the bench from a guy who had quit basketball for three years before transferring to Vermont to give it one last go. You just love stories like that from these small schools.
They didn't shoot well today, but if they're on, they could be a tough out for whoever they draw in the big dance. They're a versatile squad with a ton of senior leadership and experience.

Marcus Sasser just crumbled to the floor. Looks like a groin injury. For a moment it looked like a Kenyon Martin situation.

He went down like he was shot but walked off on his own. He never returned to the game. It could give the committee pause when it comes to seeding them.

Good news/bad news for Penn State. Good news, they made it to the conference finals by beating Indiana. Bad news, each win makes keeping the head coach from going to Georgetown, Louisville or Notre Dame all the more difficult.

Marist is giving Rick Pitino and Iona a game. Tied with about nine minutes to go. Would Iona get an at large bid if they lose?
UAB is playing Florida Atlantic in the C-USA title game. Florida Atlantic could get an at large if they lose. 30-3 for the season

to go: Atlantic 10, Big Ten, SEC, American Athletic, Ivy League These conference tournament upsets can lead to a mess on Selection Sunday as the upset could knock off a team with a great record, leading to a two bid conference and robbing power conference team of a bid. Will any of the upsets in the small conference tournaments lead to a two bid conference? Lets see, shall we?
Fairleigh Dickinson - #2 seed in the NEC (19-14). NEC regular season winner was Merrimack at 18-16. NO
SE Missouri - #5 seed in the OVC (19-16). OVC regular season winner was Morehead State at 21-11. NO Northern Kentucky - #3 seed in the Horizon. Horizon regular season winner was Youngstown State at 24-9. NO Grand Canyon- #4 seed in the WAC. WAC regular season winner was Utah Valley at 25-8. NO. No real big win. Beat Oregon but the Ducks sucked. Texas Southern - #8 seed in the SWAC. SWAC winner was Grambling at 24-8. Close but no cigar. Big win against Vanderbilt but not enough.
So no. All are still one bid conferences and the mediocre teams from the ACC and Pac can breathe easier. Had Charleston or Florida Atlantic lost and the committee would have had to look at them and their gaudy records.

Merrimack is ineligible for the big dance despite winning its conference tournament, due to that stupid rule about waiting four years after moving up to D1. So that game didn't make anyone sweat either way.

Merrimack is ineligible for the big dance despite winning its conference tournament, due to that stupid rule about waiting four years after moving up to D1. So that game didn't make anyone sweat either way. I'd rather see more of the small schools than the dregs from the Power 5. What makes the first round more exciting, the minnows playing the big boys of those 8-9 games with two power 5 school with a sub .500 conference record? I think a great rule would be that a team has to have a .500 record in conference play or they are ineligible for the NCAA, unless the win the conference tournament. Gives more berths to minnows, makes the NIT more palatable and i would make the last week of conference play. A game between two ACC teams that are 9-10 becomes a huge game instead of a yawnfest. But that won't happen. The NCAA never listens to me.
