No, I don't. There was no real alternative. But the sorrow that surrounded the decision and its aftermath will be a part of my life for keeps. And to describe it in the terms you used is to ignore the fact that, clump of cells or no (and I'll be clear on the fact that I believe embryonic life is that) ignores the fact of the human, emotional investment placed in that plasma by the parties involved in its conception. I'm not sure exactly how I failed to answer the question of why it was a hard choice, but if you fail to see why, I can't make you see it; nor would I feel there was a great deal of point in attempting. Perhaps if you should ever find yourself in a similar situation, the difficulty would become more apparent. I just explained why I think it should not have been a hard choice. If you're including the father as one of the "parties involved," it would seem that his "human, emotional investment" was indeed ignored...but not by me. So it's a qualia type of thing? I had to be there? You don't know if I've ever been in a similar situation, but for what it's worth, I'll tell you straight up that I fully support a woman's decision to abort, especially if isn't mine. I just don't understand why it's such a hard decision to scrape out a meaningless clump of cells, especially for someone who was actively trying to prevent getting pregnant in the first place. If you explained that and I missed it, feel free to call me a moron and move on. This is neither an exam question, nor a cross-examination. If you don't get it, you don't.

'just not approving', cute. Maybe 40 million people dead from HIV is no big deal to you. Try and tell us in all seriousness that number wouldn't be any lower if everybody who got infected was monogamous and used protection and got tested regularly.
Maybe incest is no big deal, one guy has sex with multiple women, they all get pregnant in a similar time frame, their kids grow up not knowing they're related because none of their moms wanted to disclose they were the other woman in an affair, and decide 'you're hot, let's have sex'. What could EVER go wrong?
And identity crisis is no big deal. People spend a lifetime wondering where they come from because their moms have NO idea who their dad is, which one study in UK found was 10% of all mothers, and in America it was job security for Maury for 20 years and now it's Paternity Court. Oh it's so RARE women don't know which guy they had sex with fathered their kid, because they're SO responsible and in any way their behavior ONLY affects themselves, not anybody else.
Any way you look at it, the bulk of society's problems all stem back to sexual irresponsibility.
Just not approving. Yeah. And still not enough to deny people their rights, which is the point, really. Has anyone ever accused you of prurience? The 'P' word is the nail on the head here. Gives license to those who find that sex talk otherwise smutty, to cut loose in the name of morality. On the very few occasions when I've mentioned having had an abortion, it's almost like a Geiger counter--you can virtually see the eyes light up on the ones that get some sleazy thrill from the topic. This makes it useful for purposes of discernment. The internet is somewhat the same--the prurient nearly always give themselves away by the thrust, tone and tenacity of their posts and questions.

It doesn’t affect that, either. Abortion isn’t contraception. A woman's reproduction rights are affected if she is obliged to carry to full term, just as they are if she not allowed control over her body in having access to legal abortion services. But no, abortion is not usually considered contraception. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21590556/ However they are linked in that if fertility and its other determinants (sexual exposure, lactation and pathological infertility, for example) remain constant, a rise in contraceptive use or in effectiveness of use must lead to a decline in induced abortion and vice versa.
We're kind of back to if you don't bother taking any preventative measures, you don't have grounds to complain about your 'rights', and over 50% of unplanned pregnancies don't bother. Don't cry that you didn't want to get fat if you ate 50 pizzas. Somebody put on anti-psychotics and it makes them gain 100 pounds, they have room to complain.

How would one ”complain about their rights ” ?

Does it smell like deflection? Now you mention it... Have you ever considered the reason you smell that everywhere you go?

Seems someone forgot to install your empathy mechanism. Why don't you go out and hassle some women at a Planned Parenthood clinic, might be good therapy for you. At any rate, it's becoming clear why you've shut down the Block User function. You obviously like the drama. Makes a pretty good stand-in for real life, I suppose.

Funny the people who go to abortion clinics to offer help to the poor scared young women are ALSO accused of hassling and harassing them, as well as fearmongering, guilting, shaming, etc. But THEN they get accused of doing NOTHING to help the women, and told they don't care about them whatsoever or they WOULD do something.
So anti-abortionists are treated kind of like America in foreign scenarios: "Keep your nose out of everybody else's business, nobody cares what you think, stop being the world's babysitter! Hey, give us all your money if you care about our plight that we don't want your help on!"
Can't have it both ways. People have to decide do they REALLY want anti-abortionists helping the poor pregnant girls which yes, means interfering with the de-production line conveyor belt in abortion clinics that must be kept running at all times, even during lockdown, even when Kermit Gosnell was operating without a license or insurance and giving his patients STDs from dirty surgical instruments and infestations of rats, roaches and cat hair, 'don't do ANYTHING to slow down the number of abortions per day as per ordered by the state governor', or do they want 0% differing opinions and alternate options offered to the downtrodden pregnant women to reinforce abortion as their ONLY choice? It's got to be one, or the other.

We're kind of back to if you don't bother taking any preventative measures, you don't have grounds to complain about your 'rights', As has been observed before, reproductive rights cannot be given up simply through being deemed careless or irresponsible. It is not strong enough a reason, not matter how much someone might dislike others and their lifestyle. For instance some might consider your views of women often misogynistic and your views on sexual morality prurient, regressive and sometimes offensive, but this is not enough to suspend your right to free speech.

Funny the people who go to abortion clinics to offer help to the poor scared young women are ALSO accused of hassling and harassing them, as well as fearmongering, guilting, shaming, etc. Funny how you mix up those who support women, who make an often difficult and painful choice, with those who can be seen outside intimidating as they go in for treatment. www.bpas.org/media/uwflorww/2022-august-clinic-harassment-update.pdf In the UK last year Parliament voted to introduce much needed legislation to prohibit protests within 150 metres of an abortion clinic or hospital providing abortion services. This falls under section 9 of the Public Order Act 2023, anticipated to commence in full effect no later than spring 2024. and then, in the US where the problem with Fundies is worse and pro-life zealots is apparently worse: www.theguardian.com/world/2023/sep/16/face-act-anti-abortion-threaten-clinics More unsubstantiated anecdotal claims from you then? ..And just another made up quote and scenario. The more you go on this way the more the risk that you will never be taken seriously.

You obviously like the drama. Makes a pretty good stand-in for real life, I suppose. It's very hard if not impossible to be simultaneously empathetic and objective. And besides, the former wouldn't even apply for someone who has no regrets. I've done nothing with the Block User function. You should know this given your recent announcement that you have Novastar on block. However, if you're referring to the inability to block an Administrator, that's a Proboards limitation that can't be toggled. Try blocking the admin on V1 and let's see if you say the same about him. Meanwhile, I'm still wondering why it's such a hard decision...
