Its hypocritical because the same old folks who now whine about their being "too many superhero" movies used to go to multiple Westerns every year. Yet when OUR generation gets a predominant genre that has multiple entries every year, "its boring and annoying". they might be whining about superhero films, but where do we see them praising the western? Spielberg is the only one I recall comparing the two genres, and not in the best light. And? The writing's on the wall regardless of what anyone today says while discussing superhero films. The westerns from Landis' generation were successful enough to warrant releasing over a hundred of them on a yearly basis. Yet I don't see anyone ever talking about how all the westerns they used to be "were boring and tedious", which is saying a lot by itself.

He is factually incorrect. I doubt he has even seen most of the MCU movies. Did I miss the scene in Ant-Man where a city was destroyed? That's just one example. Like Atom(ica) Discord suggested, it just sounds like sour grapes to me. It's an old man whining about what's popular "the kids today", while displaying a stunning lack of self-awareness to acknowledge Hollywood used to inundate the cinesphere with the things his generation liked just as much way back when.

I used to love Landis' work in the 80s, but unfortunately he hasn't been relevant since Coming to America in 1988...sour grapes from a washed-up has been.

how is it hypocritical? it's not like they're praising the western. Its hypocritical because the same old folks who now whine about their being "too many superhero" movies used to go to multiple Westerns every year. Yet when OUR generation gets a predominant genre that has multiple entries every year, "its boring and annoying". There have been plenty of huge trends in cinema. Westerns is a good one - how many hundreds of westerns were made? At the peak, Hollywood probably churned out more westerns in an average year than all the superhero movies ever made combined. Or look at war movies. How many hundreds of WWII movies came out between 1939 and say 1960? The superhero/comic book trend is mild in comparison - you get what, maybe three or four a year?

That's actually a part of my point. People exaggerate the superhero trend way too much.

Yes, Max Landis is John Landis' son, he has helped with his Father's films even back in his childhood - He is credited with "special thanks" for !Three Amigos!, Oscar, and Blues Brothers 2000, he had a small part in The Stupids, and he co-wrote his Dad's episode of Masters of Horror, "Deer Woman". It's safe to say if not for his Dad Max Landis wouldn't have a career.

It's safe to say if not for his Dad Max Landis wouldn't have a career. right....Max Landis only wrote Chronicle one of the most interesting and innovative superhero/god movies (if power corrupt, absolute power corrupts absolutely). Save to say, his dad wrote that for him and opened the doors, eh?

Oh, look, one of the resident idiots is back. Complaining about that originality thing again, huh? Hate to break it to you, but Hollywood was never original. Neither has any story-teller ever been. Shakespeare himself never wrote a single original thing his entire career. So nothing he nor you have said is on-point. The MCU is here to stay and Fox-Men will never be competition to it. Get over it.

Tell me on what A Midsummer Night's Dream, Love's Labour's Lost and The Tempest are based on, doctrine deems them original stories created by the bard. You are as clumsy as you are stupid, raptor. I wonder if you are ever right with anything...? Statistically speaking you should be, I just never happens! Let us not even discuss idiotic absurdities such as "Neither has any story-teller ever been" [original]. Thank you for your unwavering propensity for low effort thinking, FallaciousRaptor.

The butcher doesn't need to justify himself to the pig. For someone who has been proven wrong over and over again, you are stubborn about clinging to your perceived superiority. Yeah, if you can't figure out where Shakespeare got the inspiration for those stories, you're the one suffering from low effort thinking. The butcher does not play the swine's game.

Landis grew up in the industry and has had constant run-ins with and has formed relationships with lots of people who work in mainstream entertainment, being the son of the guy who made Animal House, Blues Brothers, Michael Jackson's Thriller, and An American Werewolf in London made all that possible. It's not rocket science.

It's not rocket science. You're wasting your time with Tristan. According to him, Shakespeare magically made up a A Midsummer Night's Dream, Love's Labour's Lost and The Tempest in a total vacuum and no one can discern any source of inspiration behind them.

Landis is neither right or wrong, as he's just expressing his opinion which isn't a factual statement that cannot be subject to debate. Hollywood has never been completely original as history illustrates - a large sum of what are believed to be the best movies ever made were adaptations of literature, theater, and renditions of fables, or influenced heavily by the works of specific artists and authors.
Its pretty obvious you are not a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and much prefer Fox's X-Men instead - which is probably why you are agreeing with Landis here, but if you take your own advice and read the interview he doesn't just talk about the Marvel Cinematic Universe in particular but generally about all superhero movies out there in the marketplace which includes X-Men.

Get over it. It is amusing that you cannot tell the differences between reference/homage/influence (Shakespeare) and formulas/cliche/conventions (MCU). Ah yes, this ever present "formula" no one can ever identify beyond things like "costumes" or "the main character gets too much focus" or something silly like that.
