Covenant was a good movie. Much better than Prometheus. If you hate Covenant it wont be for the same reasons you hated Prometheus. Covenant at once feels like a proper sequel to Prometheus and is a good fit in Alien franchise. It both goes forward to reach toward Alien and goes backward to reach for Prometheus.
For me the thing about Prometheus is that there are literally tons of plot holes and decisions made in the story that don't make sense.
Covenant on the other hand has an actual story, little to no plot holes, and the characters, while still making dumb decisions in some cases, still make some kind of sense given the fact that they are in incredibly chaotic, high stress situations.
I'm not giving the movies flaws a pass. There are flaws. But this is overall a much better, much more enjoyable, movie than Prometheus. Just for Fassbenders performance alone you should go see this movie. This is encouraging. I was planning to see it but now I'm looking forward to it more. Thanks.

and the fact they put it in the trailer kind of kills the tension in that (very important) scene in the movie too. It sucks how they ruin things with trailers these days. I saw A:C yesterday and two scenes were completely ruined because of the trailer for me The original movie game almost 40 years ago, there is no point in hiding the creature from the trailers. If they didn't show it in the trailer, you wouldn't all of a sudden be more scared were engaged, because you've already seen it in previous movies. you misunderstood my post. I wasn't complaining about the creature being shown in the trailers. But about the 2 scenes that could have been a great "surprise" in the movie (not because of the director showing the alien, but because the sudden attack, especially one where you think its all over could have been a great surprise if it weren't spoiled by the trailer) . Thats what I don't like in many nowadays trailers - they kill off some element of surprise in action/horror movies and give away the best jokes in comedies by showing too much. I get the marketing strategy, you want to show off the best stuff, to get people to the cinema, but I wish they made spoiler free trailers for us who just want to get a taste of the atmosphere of the movie but still wonder in the cinema about whats going to happen next. if you have seen the trailer to A:C and seen the movie, you know that toward the end when they are back on the Ship and all looks it could be hunky dory you KNOW there will be an alien in the shower and you KNOW there will be one hanging from the roof of the ship as they take off. To me that significantly lessen the tension that I could have been experiencing there.

The "Alien" creature looks different in the new movie, though - very different. P.S. I say this because of the trailer - I haven't seen the movie yet. The Engineers look very different in this movie, the xenomorphs still look like xenomorphs.

I'm not interested in with some random sites says until something from the horses mouth confirmed it.

Well, I can't find the new xenomorph in a trailer now, but I can tell you that it was white and more human-like (smaller, bony, human shaped body) except for the back of head which was shaped like a helmet going back to a point. Now I'm going to have to see the movie, I guess.

The chestburster was also way different So what? It's annoying, but this is what they do in sequels. Go watch Robocop 2, Terminator 2 or Predator 2 and I guarantee you that you will notice physical differences from the very same characters in the first movie. They aren't supposed to be different, studios, directors, and producers just can't help from tinkering.

If you think leaving the shower scene out of the trailer would have made it more suspenseful, I don't know what to tell you. Everyone knows something bad is going to happen the second these characters let their guard down; especially if it's having sex.

It's similar to how, for whatever reason, the can't stop making technology in the past look more advanced. All the screens being digital and whatnot.
