If you think leaving the shower scene out of the trailer would have made it more suspenseful, I don't know what to tell you. Everyone knows something bad is going to happen the second these characters let their guard down; especially if it's having sex. the point is that you have seen the scene in the trailer so you knew at the end of the movie that it still wasn't shown - so you knew it was coming - given that it was at a point when the movie could have ended and the aliens could have been "defeated" (for the moment), it just changed the tension for me - I knew there was going to be one on the ship… thats all what I am saying, its not so much about the fact it was in the shower, but that the scene was so "memorable" (from the trailer) that you knew it wasnt there in the movie yet… so they couldnt play it similarly like in Aliens, when Ripley and Newt are back on the ship and you think "oh its all going to be ok", you get relaxed and happy and then get HIT with the alien being there too. Here you didnt get the hit - because of the trailer.

There is no HIT with that scene and it's not because it was in the trailer. I understand what you are saying about laughs, scares, etc. being ruined because they are in the trailer, but this scene had "something is about to happen" written all over it. A sex scene in a horror movie? Yeah, that's not going to end well.

A sex scene in a horror movie? Yeah, that's not going to end well. I think we are failing at communication :-). Forget about the scene being in the shower or it being a sex scene. My point was: by showing such easily memorable scene in the trailer, one could easily notice that it has not been in the movie yet, when at the end. So you couldnt "relax" thinking "aaah, now everything is going to be ok" (and then be hit/surprised by yet another alien - regardless of where it popped up). You simply KNEW "at least two more alien scenes are coming up" - one at the shower, one on the top of the ship. Thats what I am complaining about. They showed two very memorable/important scenes in the trailer and both happened to be at the very end of the movie. Thus removing tension in the end of the movie for me. It could be different for other people (and obviously is for you) but for me, the fact I knew two more big alien scenes are coming up just changed the experience. For worse.

NoraYou're right about this - putting things from the end in a trailer does dampen the startle-effect when seeing the movie for the first time. Then again, the "Alien" franchise tends to have a last minute monster pop up fairly close to the end.

Never. I mean, I don't really like prequels, well I like prequels but Alien: Covenant is too remake sounding for me.

Never. I mean, I don't really like prequels, well I like prequels but Alien: Covenant is too remake sounding for me. Sure there are parts that are taken/similar to other movies form the franchise but overall it's in line with Prometheus more than Alien but not for the good reasons. You still have: - Bad decisions but less than in Prometheus. - Still too many alien "fodder" (characters that you don't know anything about, they die for the sake of introducing something and that happens before you really know anything about them) - Another attempt at getting a female lead as strong as Ripley. It's getting closer, compared to what we got in Prometheus, but it's still not close enough. Don't get me wrong, I don't want an exact copy but what we got is subpar. - Last but not least, a "major" twist is blown way too early and way too obliviously again but it's later than in Prometheus. In Prometheus, we kinda knew from about 5 minutes in the movie that Theron's character was Weyland's daughter, so the revelation near the end wasn't one. This time, it's blown about 25-30 minutes before time. A big step in the right direction but still disappointing. One thing though, Fassbender's part is still pretty interesting. I'd say he and his part are redeeming for the rest. Overall it was entertaining and beautiful visually but otherwise it's pretty average. 6/10

The upcoming movie from director Ridley Scott, scheduled to be released on May 19, 2017. I don't hate Prometheus, it looked beautiful and I actually liked some parts of it, but I agree that it's a dissapointment compared to the original Alien. So far, this movie looks a lot more promising, especially the "Prologue: Last Supper" clip. The dialogue feels genuine and I already like this crew a lot more than the Prometheus crew. I don't want to get my hopes up to much, because I don't want to be disappointed with the final result. What's your opinion? SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I saw it in theaters. It was POOP. I mean really. Just POOP. It was a lot of everything about nothing. A envious robot seeking to destroy humanity? Why? If he just waits long enough, we'll all just destroy ourselves anyway. Aren't we over the killer robot plot yet? I already saw Kill Command...

A envious robot seeking to destroy humanity? Why? Because he wants to FIT IN.

A envious robot seeking to destroy humanity? Why? Because he wants to FIT IN. i don't think that was his motivation. he was disgusted with humans and was looking for a better organism and he himself felt superior. at least I didn't see it as an attempt to fit in. rather to eradicate a sub-par species and introduce a better quality one.

Just POOP. what bugged me the most was how stupid the crew was (or at least how poorly they behaved, be it their strategy overall, protection of self and general "wanting to live" desire)

I still can't stand the way people trash these movies for how these very human characters behave in the scariest situations imaginable. People weren't exactly the smartest while the twin towers were collapsing. It's the same level of danger in these movies. Ripley was only awesome after Alien, because she had experience with these situations under her belt. Even then, that doesn't stop her from making really stupid choices... like not informing the marines about Burke's crimes sooner.
