The upcoming movie from director Ridley Scott, scheduled to be released on May 19, 2017.
I don't hate Prometheus, it looked beautiful and I actually liked some parts of it, but I agree that it's a dissapointment compared to the original Alien. So far, this movie looks a lot more promising, especially the "Prologue: Last Supper" clip. The dialogue feels genuine and I already like this crew a lot more than the Prometheus crew. I don't want to get my hopes up to much, because I don't want to be disappointed with the final result. What's your opinion?

The trailer did not impress me. It reminded me too much of the Prometheus trailer – meaning it's nice to look at visually, but nothing stands out. It also looks like a combination of every other alien movie we've seen.
I initially told myself that I liked Prometheus, but I really don't. It's a mess. The acting is very wooden, the characters are idiots, and it messed with the mythology of the xenomorphs and Space Jockeys too much. There is so much that doesn't make sense about the creatures and this movie looks to continue that.
That clip is better than the trailer, but I'm not terribly interested.

Prometheus was crap. How do you screw up an Alien prequel? It should not have been that difficult.
I think they need to scrap the prequel idea altogether and just make Alien movies. Maybe breathe some fresh life into the Alien vs. Predator films.

So Danny McBride will make it to the end battle? Nice.

while I'm not a fan of that heavy digital camera look (since I love the look of the original Alien), and wish they had gotten their mitts on that new 8k camera Gunn is using for GOTG2................however it's still gorgeous to look at, the clarity is spectacular.

Yeah, this is looking mediocre. I love sci-fi, though, and it's usually the best genre to see on the big screen, but I'm going into this with low expectations.

I wrote a poem after watching that prologue. Here goes...
When movies go gay I stay away Someday I may see it But I'll never pay

Prometheus spawned one of the biggest and longest threads that I have ever been on when it was first released, mostly because it was a blast to rip on how utterly stupid it was. Ridley Scott did make at least one great comedy, if you view it as an alien satire then the film takes on a whole new meaning.
Personally, Ridley Scott- almost 80, should have just stepped back and let another Alien enthusiast director take the Alien franchise into another direction. Really thought that Prometheus established a terrible prologue for the new series and leads us to another brain-dead plot:
Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant, which includes Walter, an android similar to David who, together with Elizabeth Shaw, was the sole survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition, find what they believe to be an uncharted paradise. It soon reveals itself to be a dangerous world inhabited by the original David and monstrous creatures that start to hunt them.
Gee, the Predator movie with Aliens hunting them. That's it? No great inter-galactic space battles or raging civil war with Alien commando's kicking ass and taking names!!!!!!

The potential with the back story of the engineers gives it the possibility for an excellent sci-fi think piece. They won't go there, though, because Hollywood greed is going to try and milk the story-line for as long as possible. I'm sure it's been padded with a lot of boring, obvious CGI alien fight scenes. That said, I will probably still go see it, because I love the Alien franchise, and I'm hoping the special effects will make it worth seeing on the big screen.

The Alien franchise was not really that intellectual to begin with, terrifying and cool to look at sure, the closest is maybe 'Alien 3' with it's story of sin, torment and redemption and the devil that comes to the prison planet in the form of the Alien. The problem is that I can picture the plot of this movie easily and there will be absolutely no surprises, lot's of chasing and yelling things flying around. All we are going to get out-of-this is eye-candy and Jurassic park with aliens........

The dialogue and action were both done well, and Ripley was an intelligent lead. With an origin story, and where they tried to go with Prometheus, there was real potential for a great sci-fi action film with a philosophical bent on it. But, Yeah, I agree with you. It will end up being short on plot and dialogue and over saturated with mindless action sequences.

i am cautiously optimistic.
Prometheus wasn't all it could've been but my big fear is that they've thrown the baby out with the bathwater in trying to pander to Aliens fans. i have more faith in Scott than that, but not the studio.
