Izo (2004)
It starred one of my favourite actors/directors Takeshi Kitano. It was directed by the ever interesting Takashi Miike. It promised WWII soldiers, zombies, samurai and time travel. And it turned out to be dull as fuck

"Beauty and the Beast"(2017) was the most recent movie for me to come close to what you're asking. I can't say it sucked, but it was underwhelming. I mean, the Beast lacked the big presence he had in the animated movie, Gaston was a little too classy and not macho enough, the castle scenes were mostly carried by Mr. and Mrs. Potts and their gang, and the movie overall seemed like it was just going through the motions.

I felt let down by Independence Day: Resurgence. It was a decent ride but I felt like it was missing something.

George and Mildred (1980) - A feature film based on of my favourite TV comedies. Unfortunately, the film bore little resemblance to the TV series. Thus, the long tradition of terrible films based on great TV series was begun.

Star Trek (2009) Had been hyping that one for 3 years prior to a release and it ended up being a (in my humble opinion) badly written space adventure movie replete with lame villains, myriad plot holes and logic inconsistencies and a threadbare, only partially comprehensible plot. I can understand where you are coming from... although I now like the movie, I had a hard time 'buying' the star ship Enterprise [no bloody A, B, C, OR D!] being run by 12 year olds. I had the same problem with superman returns, although I grew to really like it. why is lois lane 12 years old with a 5 year old kid? I was able to get into Star Trek Beyond, but the first two reboots were so badly written it was infuriating. RE Superman Returns - not a fan of that one either. For me, it comes down mostly to the movie's essential blandness. And I couldn't buy it as a belated sequel to the Richard Donner movies of decades ago.

Frozen. I was waiting for it, and it ended up annoying the living fuck out of me. Waste of a perfectly good Alan Tudyk imo.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, had an amazing comic con trailer and it got me really excited because I was thinking it would be a CBM on TDK level greatness, but no, massive letdown, that made me angry because Man of Steel was actually pretty good. Civil War was a much better film.

As for a movie that was a big letdown, I would have to say Spider-Man: Homecoming. It had gotten a lot of hype so I thought it might finally be the first decent movie from MCU, but it was a big disappointment and turned out to be just another over-rated and awful MCU movie.

Explorers, Creepshow 2 and the Phantom Menace
I dont know why I saw Explorers but it was a big dud. I expected some scary aliens or what.
I saw Creepshow 2 expecting something much like the first and it was so cheap and sucky.
But the worst experience was The Phantom Menace. So excited as the movie started but after 5 minutes the dread started-and I had already known it was getting bad reviews-I had no idea how bad it would be.
I left depressed, came home, and someone sent me an ascii version of Star Wars which I found more entertaining.
Exsqueeeeze me.

In case anyone doesn't realize it, dcfan actually loves Marvel. He sees every movie right away even though he posts that they're not even on his radar. He's seen all the shows. He's just doing shtick so don't take his hate seriously. He LOVES Marvel movies and shows.

Batman Forever. I enjoyed the Burton Batman movies and was looking forward to another instalment. After first seeing Batman Forever at the cinema I tried to convince myself I liked what I saw, being the youngster I was, but deep down really I knew it sucked, and the campy style and look of it didn't sit well with me. Because of this I had much lower expectations for Batman and Robin which was obviously far worse.
