It didn't need to be an origin story (and I'm glad it wasn't), but they don't even touch on some of the Spider-Man essentials. How'd he get his powers? Why does he even want to be a hero? There's a throwaway line about him getting bit by a spider, but that's not self explanatory.
If you're a kid who wants to get into Spider-Man, you better do your homework before Homecoming.
Shame. I thought you were better than that, Marvel.

My 9 year old nephew saw it, doesn't read comics, never seen another Spider Man film, and he loved it. He also never had any questions about Spider Man's origin

But he'll never understand what Spider-Man's all about unless he does his homework.

Mentioning it in 1 sentence doesn't explain it to kids who have never seen a Spider-Man movie. More importantly, SMH never touches on the subject of why Spider-Man wants to be a hero.
Kids who have never seen a Spider-Man movie think Spider-Man just wants to be a hero because it's something cool and fun to do and not because he let his Uncle Ben get shot and killed while he was trying to win money wrestling Randy "Macho Man" Savage and not because his Uncle Ben told him that "With great power comes great responsibility".

Agreed. And why the hell didn't he have any Spider Sense? Where did his super strength go?? He can stop a car from traveling at top speed but he can't bust through a fcking window?? This Spider-Man was so lame and retarded. And yet, everyone here insists on eating anything Marvel shits out. They refuse to see the great movies not made by Marvel.
Look at the Quicksilver scenes in X-Men: DOFP. Technically, they are CINEMATIC GOLD. Yet, these fanboys refuse to pay any respect to anything not directly made by Marvel. They see the critics reviews - which are like the reviews for any other Disney movie (glowing for the kids), kids go to it in droves and they now have the perfect defense against any criticism.

A person that considers anything from X Men Apocalypse Cinematic Gold and Avatar to be a masterpiece has no right to say what others should like and what is or isn't lame and retarded. Just because it's good for kids doesn't mean it can't be great for example The Loin King and The Incredibles. Seriously get over yourself Mr. Super Studly.

He clearly has super strength in the movie, and they said that he has Spider-Sense but they won't go over it the exact same way the past movies did. The Quicksilver scenes in X-Men were pretty crappy, all things considered. It's just that it's one of the only times Singer bothered portrayed Superpowers half-way decent in any of his movies so it stood out more. And Homecoming just didn't feel like spoon-feeding you the same old Spidey origin again. Deal with it.

I thought you were better than that, Marvel. Kids aren't as dumb as you think. Anime gets away with precious little exposition. The Japanese track of DBZ has far less chitchat than the American dub & overall the American dubs seem to explain everything ad nauseum

Uncle Ben should have been mentioned, not just alluded to vaguely, since his death due to Peter's irresponsibility is Peter's whole motivation. The "with great power..." ethos kind of fell to the wayside with wanting to impress Stark. Yeah yeah they alluded to that less vaguely in Civil War but this is the solo film, what harm could there be in having it again.
That said, any self-respecting parent who's a Spider-Man fan should make their kid watch at least Raimi's Spider-Man 1 before or after this, preferably before. That covers the origin. It's like people forget the old films exist.

Yeah, considering you find the Fox-Men movies to be artistic masterpieces, I'll just take your opinion with a grain of salt. Try again troll, and come back to me when you've watched an MCU film.

Since the Raimi trilogy is not that good I would say that they should watch ASM1 first. One of TASM's problems was blurring the direct line between Uncle Ben's death and the power/responsibility theme. Peter first suits up merely trying to find and beat up Uncle Ben's killer (unsuccessfully), and only later becomes more like "classic" Spider-Man to face the Lizard, blaming himself for helping create it. It's less about pure altruism and more about cleaning up one's own messes. Now this Peter makes messes worse in his eagerness to prove himself. Stark calls him out for the boat, but since Uncle Ben is unseen, the lesson is more about being a better hero, not altruism.

I would suspect kids would be familiar with the character before seeing the movie. There's more access to comic books and related material now than ever before, I don't think it'll be a problem. Somehow I doubt if the old IMDb boards still existed, the SMH board would be filled with threads asking how he got his powers.
The real issue would be making sense of Peter's introduction in SMH if you hadn't seen Civil War. But that's how the MCU operates now. You can appreciate any given film on its own merit, but you'll get much more from the experience the longer you've been onboard.

Quicksilver scenes are cool, but he might as well be omnipotent. He could defeat everyone and still be able to grab a bite. He's way overpowered to be a good character. He saves everybody in the mansion? LOL what a load of Bullshit. Look it's a new threat. Hey Quicksilver go handle that while we chill... Cinematic gold lol
