Sony joined the MCU, let Marvel make their film, put Iron-Man in all the promotions, made it look like a follow up to Civil War, and TASM2 still outgrossed it.
At least TASM2 was ALL Sony profit. Now they have to share with Marvel Studios.
They shouldnt have made a Teen Spider-Man. People are SICK of retelling Spider-Man.
The General Audience wanted an Adult Spider-Man, move on. I talked to a buddy of mine at work, he said "I saw Dunkirk instead of Spider-Man" (because he only goes to the movies once a month) I asked "why?" ... he said "I'm tired of Spider-Man getting rebooted again and again".

Well the figures show SMH has outgrossed TAMSM2 domestically already (unadjusted and adjusted figures) and overseas it still has to be released in Japan and China (Japan where all Spider Man movies have done well and China the 2nd biggest market in the world)

yup, regardless whether or not it outperforms TASM movies in the end, this performance is disappointing for such a heavily, heavily BOOSTED movie (I mean its the most popular children SH finally with MCU heroes and IM in a high school scenario, what can go wrong, right?!).
The message is super clear as with Bats and Supes before: the CBM bubble is alive and bubbling, BUT people want fresh superhero blood, and not be fed the generic been-there-seen-that formula regurgitated.

What about a ThunderCats movie? You think it could do well? Why not? I actually never saw Thundercats (was before my time); I bear this avatar as a historic reminder how quickly oblivion can swallow up once hyped and hailed franchises. Also, cause I dig cats and it looks kewl. That being said, maybe its time for a Thundercats reboot for a new generations. But as Hitchcock said: to make a good film you need three (3) thing: 1- A good script 2- A good script 3- A good script

I grew up dreaming of a ThunderCats movie in the 80's.

This is the third attempt and honestly there is not much new or intresting about this one. Honestly if people are tired of spiderman and haven't seen Homecoming they are honestly not missing much.

mcufan did you see Cartoon Network's recent (ish) reinvention? No, is it any good? I didn't like the he-man reboot in the 90's or 2000 can't remember, but I wasn't really paying attention then.

Snarf doesn't talk which irritated one of my friends greatly but i quite appreciated.

The original had a anime feeling to it, and I was drawn to it even though at the time I didn't know what anime was lol edit: and now I know why, the animation was made in Japan, and the new one apparently also.

This would have made 1B dollars in 2012 without the Amazing Spider-Man reboot. If this was right after the Raimi Trilogy and it sat for 5+ years, then rebooted in the MCU for phase 2 of the MCU, it would have easily crossed 1B. This is why Sony joined the MCU, to make more money. But they actually made less than they did with TASM2. Even if it grosses 750M+ after all regions around the world end. That is TASM2 numbers, and that was a SOLO outing by SONY.

Is OP even aware that this film's budget is like $80 million lower than that of 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'?

I find what the title of this thread says hard to believe, considering that TASM2 sucked worse than I thought a Spidey movie could suck.

Is OP even aware that this film's budget is like $80 million lower than that of 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'? You are missing the point. Sony could have learned from their mistakes, made TASM 3, spent less money on production and made about the same at the B.O. It would have been 100% theirs. They have to share with Marvel Studios.

Exactly. It was a Faustian bargain for all involved.

Sony keeps all the money from this. So what's the difference to them? They got a well received movie unlike the last, and they have a character in a franchise that is going to have a huge boost after avengers 4 like iron Man had after the avengers.
