Once you revealed that those four movies had an average Rotten Tomatoes score of less than 50%, I'd say you were talking about DECU or Transformers.

When we MCU fans say the DCEU is a disappointment, we mean that quality wise. Yeah, it's amazing how much the DCEU makes despite a low rotten tomatoes average score, much like Pirates and Transformers this year, if you continueously bring mediocrity, people will start to get bored, while the MCU will live on bringing us quality comic book movies.
Oh, and Batman v. Superman should've made Avengers level money or at the very least made $1 billion, but it was $200 million shy from $1 billion and $700 million from $1.5 billion, so BvS was a bit of a disappointment.

This must be taken as a compliment, if the MCU maggots would not bitch it would not be any good. The dumbest of them even try to to marvel-ize poor WonderWoman, as if we had not see where a similar premise leads in the MCU: to idiotic laser battles in the time of the holocaust, Mr Tomatohead villains who are even forgotten by the MCU, and unforgettable leads with trivial BEEFCAKE-by-magic-serum arcs. How marvelous, DC and FoxMen please steer away from that dreck.  |

You know a lot of Marvel fans are also DC fans..they are just Comic Book Fans. However, it seems if they criticise the DCEU films they are automatically assumed they are all JUST MCU fans. Nope. Fact is DC screwed the pooch with their first outings...they were well below par. People wanted decent DC films and didn't get them. On the other hand Marvel have mostly given Comic Book fans decent Comic Book movies. Well recieved by critics alike Just look at DC-Fans beloved Top 50 Super Hero films list from RT. Every MCU film is in their. Wonder Woman is the only DCEU film. In the greater scheme of things Box Office means fuck all...millions of people may have gone to see a film, it doesn't mean millions of people liked it. Which is generally considered the better James Cameron film...Aliens of Avatar? Which is generally considered the better Star Wars film...Empire or Phantom? |

What people mean by "WB has screwed up" is that the DCEU was coming off of the success of Nolan's Batman trilogy and in the case of Man of Steel and BvS has super high financial expectations, but while they made enough they didn't live up to what WB was hoping for at the end of their run. Suicide Squad just hit all the right buttons in the marketing department and being released in August helped it a lot, regardless of critical dismissal. Wonder Woman's made a lot of money and I think the main reason to why it has is largely due to a factor that the prior DCEU installments didn't have - Generally favorable word of the mouth. MOS to SS were all mixed, WW is the first generally favored entry in its universe.
And it doesn't take all that much to make over a billion dollars these days, you can only present spectacle with state of the art effects and theatrical presentation for so long that eventually your audience will go hungry for something new and more substantial. Look at the latest Pirates and Transformers movies, they were thought to rake in the most this summer but they both fell short of expectations, if they movies had been better they've generated more money - that and being released with more open space would've helped a lot too.
Also, the DCEU has only won an Oscar for make-up, which only says that it did well in that area, it doesn't suggest its story or characters were particularly impressive, that how things looked.

Preexisting audience-familiarity the characters played a big hand in that. Ironman was a second tier character in 2008 and fairly obscure, and yet overcame that becoming one of today's biggest pop culture icons. Superman's... Superman. The second MCU film was a Hulk movie coming off of the disappointment of the previous Hulk film and the second DCEU film was a Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman movie. Of course the latter was going to put more seats in theaters and it still manages to disappoint. The third DCEU film had Batman, Harley Quinn, and The Joker. The fourth DCEU was the first even decently made superheroine film, so that got it automatic success. The fourth MCU film was about a Norse mythology based superhero, which is off the beaten path on both regards So while Ironman, Hulk, Thor, and Cap had to prove themselves throughout 2008-2012, Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman have gotten a pretty easy ride on the power of their names, so even trying compare the film grosses without taking other factors into consideration is just asinine. And yet, four-for-four, each of the first four Marvel films are better. No contest. Oh, and Man of Steel, BvS, Suicide Squad, and Wonder Wonder have all lost to the MCU films they WERE up against, regardless of placement within their individual franchises. Suck on that. If the DCEU really was so unequivocally superior, it wouldn't matter if Man of Steel was the first of its franchise while Ironman 3 was the last of its. The former would have beaten the latter had it been the better movie. Same with BvS and SS v Civil War and Wonder Wonder v Homecoming and Guardians Vol. 2. |

The Incredible Hulk which came out after a shitty first film, Iron Man 2, which made more than its sequel, and Thor, who was also hardly known outside of the comic book fandom, and that went on to do $450 million. As an MCU fan, I'm really proud of the first 4 movies. As for Oscars, who gives a shit? Do you know how many quality movies and great filmmakers go home empty handed on Oscar night? |

Perhaps Suicide Squad should have concentrated less on makeup and hair styling and more on making a passable movie.
25% on Rotten Tomaotes. Imagine how bad the reviews would have been if Suicide Squad didn't have that Academy Award winning makeup and hair styling to impress the critics.
