It's just opinions that we never agree with. As always, attempts to measure art fail in spectacular fashion. It might just be that SG is cute. I know I've meant to watch it for just that reason alone. Still going to get around to it at some point. It's really positive. Season 2's finale revealed Kat knows who Supergirl is, showing the characters don't have to be idiots that can't see thru a pair if fake glasses, yet she keeps it to herself because she knows how to keep secrets. It isn't a drab, depressing show. It has hope But it is cheesy as heck. Someone said it perfectly in this thread. It really does seem like it was written by a 14 year old girl.

It reminds me of the Supergirl I read as a child in the 1960s Everything doesn't have to be for guys. Gals can have some stuff. Around 30% of manga in Japan is aimed at females. In the early 00s it was around 3% of comics written for females to consume. Look at the fanboys bitch about this show. Rey in TFA The only heroines they seem to want are the ones they can drool over. When my daughter was little Mulan bombed somewhat by Disney's standards so they proclaimed they would back away from female leads because mothers of daughter would take their daughter to cartoons with male leads, but mothers of sons more often skipped titles with female lead characters. They actually announced that. Any wonder we have guys nowadays that seem to hate gals? Guys that seem to think they are the only ones that matter? My daughter played WoW, tell the other players she was female & they would freak out when they talked online in game because they assumed she was just another dude pretending to be a gal. I was accused of that here. So YEAH SUPERGIRL! She beat Supes at the end of S2 & some guys whined, but others have pointed out she has done this in the comics.

Both are flawed, medioce shows, but Supergirl is fun, colorful and dumb: a crowd pleaser for the entire family. It's ironic. Kind of the reverse situation as with the grim DC movies versus the children friendly MCU.

Kind of the reverse situation as with the grim DC movies versus the children friendly MCU. The DCEU movies aren't particularly grim, they just have an aversion to using brighter colors and innovative imagery.

I do not care if she was the most powerful super hero ever. It has nothing to do with her being a girl. I live in a house with all girls. The show is just written terribly and has a lot of similarities to soaps and teeny bopper CW shows. You talk about eye candy, well she is great to look at, but that is besides the point. The show can be fun, in a cheesy way, but it is not good by any means.

I mostly like Supergirl except when the writing is absurdly weak and when they shove political talking points in. But otherwise it is a decent show.
I haven't watch Punisher yet but I am sure I will love it since I have loved all the other Netflix MCU shows.

I've seen stats in the past that show that more males than females watch Supergirl. That may be due to the fact that the superhero audience has more males than females. Of course it could also be that there is a significant piece of that male audience that is "into" seeing a gorgeous woman in a tight outfit kicking butt and taking names.

I kinda expect that going in for those DC TV shows. I watched every episode of Smallville and that was painful at times. I also watch the Flash. I like Supes and the Flash so it's worth putting up with. For instance...I don't care one bit about Green Arrow so I would never go near that show. It wouldn't be worth tolerating the cheese. Supergirl seems like it would have enough Supes elements to work for me. Plus...a great looking actress is not a bad thing.

I do not care if she was the most powerful super hero ever. It has nothing to do with her being a girl. I live in a house with all girls. No problems finding positive female role models for the girls? I kept smacking up against it. O bought her a whiffle ball & bat. We played with it that weekend. She never touched it again. She informed me only boys could play baseball. I come to pick her up from daycare. Her leggings are ripped & Her knees bloody. The "teacher" doesnt even lead with an explaination. "I told her those boys play rough" They dragged her behind a bike. How is that ok were she a boy? Maybe the staff should stop that sort of play? So yeah, I was always on the lookout for positive role models. I didn't limit her dreams. Dragonball Z is a fricken soap opera, dude. Doesn't matter, does it? I'm not looking at her in that manner, dude. I can't say any of the people on the show are my idea of eye candy I like the character. I like her spunk. I like they brought Mon-El in You probably like stuff I don't Stuff I think is terrible

I think they should get rid of Maggie (haven't watched this season so don't know if they did) and bring in Barbara Gordan since they aren't going to do that movie. Let's get some World's Finest up in here.

Rotten Tomatoes for TV is even worse than movies when evaluating scores
As critics have acknowledge they feel obligated to champion projects with leading women. See Ghostbusters 2016, they are graded on a curve, a mediocre show gets a pass.

The news about Joss Whedon being fired from 'Batgirl' was a load of crap and proven to be false. It is the same as all the rumours about 'Wonder Woman' being cancelled last year and 'Gotham City Sirens' being cancelled which David Ayer had to publicly deny three times and is most likely made up by guys who don't want female superhero movies. It is sad how threatened some people are over female lead movies...

It is sad how threatened some people are over female lead movies... I don't think there ever was going to be a Batgirl movie. I've always thought it was a cover for him working secretly on Justice League. When it came out that Snyder was leaving Justice League there was no reason to keep Whedon working on Justice League a secret anymore. Notice there was no talk of Batgirl since their announcement of him doing it. I mean, saying he's making a Batgirl movie was only because she was the most likely character for him to do. She's the most Buffy character. And she was small enough that it wouldn't hurt most fans. Compare that to saying he was going to do a Green Lantern or Catwoman or even a Supergirl movie.

Why exactly do people always fall back on the “critics liked/didn’t like this for political reasons” excuse? The moment I saw the title of this thread, I knew that people were gonna start playing politics.

Why exactly do people always fall back on the “critics liked/didn’t like this for political reasons” excuse? The moment I saw the title of this thread, I knew that people were gonna start playing politics. It's no secret that the majority of the media lean to the left. And they are not very good at suppressing the bias either. A show like Punisher is going to have a disadvantage. I can see from the first 4 episodes that it's a show that will appeal more to right wing viewers.
