Why exactly do people always fall back on the “critics liked/didn’t like this for political reasons” excuse? The moment I saw the title of this thread, I knew that people were gonna start playing politics. It's no secret that the majority of the media lean to the left. And they are not very good at suppressing the bias either. A show like Punisher is going to have a disadvantage. I can see from the first 4 episodes that it's a show that will appeal more to right wing viewers. Aren’t movies like American Sniper certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes?

The environment still wasn't as bad as it is now. The Las Vegas shooting really shocked people worse than those prior ones did.

Gun control didn’t suddenly appear out of nowhere these past couple of months. You need to stop coming up with excuses to justify the critic scores for every Marvel product and DC product. It’s ridiculous.

A movie that the public loved and was the top grossing movie of 2014. Punisher got a 61% (also fresh) score so the same problem occurred except of course SJWs are even more fired up about it now. Just go watch an interview with Melissa Benoist and see if you can find one where they DON'T bring up the " it's awesome that the show is about a female super hero" angle.

People loved him in Daredevil, so something changed between now and then. If you want to get technical, season 2 of DD has a 74% in RT. Also, a character being well received in one show doesn’t mean their own show will be well received.

Exactly what kind of score was American Sniper supposed to get, especially when it was relentlessly mocked for the fake baby scene? Seriously, you need to stop with the excuses.

Look at Matt LeBlanc's character from Friends. After Friends, he got his own show, Joey. That got cancelled after 2 seasons.

Well make up your mind on American Sniper...you were holding it up as proof that critics threw love at a property centered around gun violence. ....Now that you see they really didn't praise it that much you want to paint it as a bad movie? Sounds like another gun centered property being attacked to me. It's not much of an "excuse" when that is the reality. The media is dominated by left wing individuals. Conservatives apparently aren't interested in pursuing that field. (Exactly like very few Liberals pursue a career in law enforcement and the military) I would say the same if the overwhelming majority of the media and critics were right wing. Of course they would show their bias in their reviews just like left wingers do. (Check out Fox News) There is no objectivity any more. There are some right wing critics for certain websites...check out their reviews for movies with Liberal subject matter and tell me there isn't an effect. ...Or would that be an "excuse"?

The news about Joss Whedon being fired from 'Batgirl' was a load of crap and proven to be false. It is the same as all the rumours about 'Wonder Woman' being cancelled last year and 'Gotham City Sirens' being cancelled which David Ayer had to publicly deny three times and is most likely made up by guys who don't want female superhero movies. It is sad how threatened some people are over female lead movies... They really could just combine Batgirl with Gotham City Sirens. I would personally prefer a ‘Batgirl’ movie followed by ‘Birds of Prey’ with Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Lady Shiva as the villains. The New 52 series Gail Simone confirmed it is being based on directly connected on to the ‘Birds of Prey’ with the Black Canary appearing and Strix making her first appearance as a villain and going on to become a hero and join the Birds of Prey. Birds of Prey are the biggest selling female team up comic book series of all time and the majority of fans I know think they should have a movie before 'Gotham City Sirens.'

It is sad how threatened some people are over female lead movies... I don't think there ever was going to be a Batgirl movie. I've always thought it was a cover for him working secretly on Justice League. When it came out that Snyder was leaving Justice League there was no reason to keep Whedon working on Justice League a secret anymore. Notice there was no talk of Batgirl since their announcement of him doing it. I mean, saying he's making a Batgirl movie was only because she was the most likely character for him to do. She's the most Buffy character. And she was small enough that it wouldn't hurt most fans. Compare that to saying he was going to do a Green Lantern or Catwoman or even a Supergirl movie. I have been following the ‘Batgirl’ news and there have been some updates about it and Joss said in an interview a few months ago why he chose Batgirl and the actress who played her would have to get down in the dirt with him and train hard if she wanted the role. He also answered some questions about diversity and said he wasn't against having a person of colour as Batgirl and it was Gail Simone who confirmed on Twitter the movie was being based on her series and she had been in talks with Joss. Then it was mentioned again at Comic Con and it was confirmed a Robin was going to be in it which many believe will most likely be Tim Drake since Jason is dead and we are getting the 'Nightwing' movie and there have been a lot of rumours about Black Canary debuting in the movie. I have a whole thread of articles you can look at here.
s15.zetaboards.com/Colliding_Worlds/topic/10164899/1/
I think the 'Batgirl' movie will happen due to the success of Wonder Woman and Geoff Johns saying after Wonder Woman they had big plans to make more female superhero movies and not to mention Johns being a huge fan of Batgirl and being behind fixing up one of the biggest mistakes in comic book history with a female superhero curing Barbara and making her Batgirl again. Gail's New 52 Series went on to become the biggest selling Batgirl series of all time and was a New York Times No.1 Best Selling Series and 3 of the 5 graphic novels were also New York Times No. 1 Best Sellers and Batgirl much like Nightwing can be used to set up 'Birds of Prey' and 'Titans' along with Green Arrow, Supergirl, Martian Manhunter and others for phase 2 of the DCEU which sites are saying is going to be announced soon.

Three things that could contribute to the show rating:
Slow pacing
unnecessary subplots (Lewis progun crusade for example)
Lack of action, especially since the marketing made it look like it was a action packed show.
The Current political climate may be a little factor as well, especially since since a few written reviews brought up the "angry white man shooting people" and how it's very Problematic. But that's just how it is anymore.
Critics can say whatever they want because usually what they hate, I like anyway (This show, Man of Steel, ect)

I wasn’t painting anything as a bad movie. You were the one who seemed to suggest that American Sniper was given a lower rating than it should have because critics had some Liberal bias.
