Well make up your mind on American Sniper...you were holding it up as proof that critics threw love at a property centered around gun violence. ....Now that you see they really didn't praise it that much you want to paint it as a bad movie? Sounds like another gun centered property being attacked to me. It's not much of an "excuse" when that is the reality. The media is dominated by left wing individuals. Conservatives apparently aren't interested in pursuing that field. (Exactly like very few Liberals pursue a career in law enforcement and the military) I would say the same if the overwhelming majority of the media and critics were right wing. Of course they would show their bias in their reviews just like left wingers do. (Check out Fox News) There is no objectivity any more. There are some right wing critics for certain websites...check out their reviews for movies with Liberal subject matter and tell me there isn't an effect. ...Or would that be an "excuse"? I wasn’t painting anything as a bad movie. You were the one who seemed to suggest that American Sniper was given a lower rating than it should have because critics had some Liberal bias. You might want to go back and find the post where I brought up American Sniper. Good luck since that didn't happen. YOU brought it up as an attempt to counter the idea that some critics would let a political bias color their reviews. imdb2.freeforums.net/post/1103781/thread But the problem is that American Sniper was the most popular movie of 2014 with the public (some of the best legs ever) and the critical reaction was a lukewarm 72% on RT. So there was a disconnect with the public on that one. I have no use for a review that is effected by a bias. That includes politics and a dislike of a genre (like a critic who dislikes CBMs and gives most of them a bad review). Which gets into the main problem with these "measurements" in the first place. They don't mean anything. It never proves a thing and that is proven every single time someone tries to use one of them as proof that a property is good or bad. Punisher could be a 1/10 to one person and a 10/10 to another person. Both are right. Same with Supergirl. Fanboys love to latch onto various "measurements" (RT score, awards, box office) ....but only when it's convenient. Any time those things don't support their opinion it is of course abandoned. instantly. I just watched ep 4 and caught a couple of lines of dialog that would irritate a left wing person. "I don't like hipsters" "I always buy American" Naturally that would work in reverse for the very few right wing reviewers who might exist out there. They would be pleased by things like that and it would effect their review in a positive manner. That's also not useful to me.

Also, a 72% with a 6.9 average rating isn’t really what I’d call “lukewarm”. Critics were generally positive on the film despite its Conservative nature. Also, I should just point out that a big reason AS had such strong legs is because it was a Best Picture nominee. Speaking of which, the fact that a Conservative film managed to land a Best Picture nod would also kind of go against the argument that people in Hollywood were biased towards the film.

There was a disconnect between the critics and the public... AND Hollywood. 72% is "ok". it's closer to rotten than amazing. *i.e. we weren't talking about Hollywood.

The reviews for a Best Picture nominee that was also loved by the public was "solid" according to critics. (since you didn't want to use "ok")

I think Melissa is the 3rd sexiest actress in Supergirl. Behind Oddette Annable and Sharon Leal? Katie McGrath and Chyler Leigh

Just watched the first episode of Supergirl.
Don't want to judge quality yet because a lot of shows take a few episodes to "get going".
But right away I can see the differences in how it would appeal to a left leaning person as opposed to the more right leaning Punisher. They checked off a lot of the boxes for a liberal.
Female lead super hero show. That's the one that gets brought up in every interview I've seen with Melissa Benoist.
Females in positions of power everywhere. A woman is in charge where Kara works. Her mother gets almost all the lines in the first scene where she leaves Krypton. The lead villain is female.
Males are painted as misogynists. The first villain of course has a line about how "women bow down to men on my world". The lead guy at the government agency Kara's sister works for is hit with "Because she is a girl?" when he says "She isn't strong enough".
A white comic character is black-washed. "Jimmy Olson" is now an ex-NFL linebacker apparently? He shares literally no character traits with the real Jimmy Olson. Winslow is actually much more like Jimmy Olson.
Hints at an interracial romance. (far more common in Hollywood stories than in real life)
The Hank character openly expresses disdain for "immigrants" and of course is portrayed as not very likable.
The "Supergirl" name offends Kara and another unlikable character is made responsible for it. The defense of the name is actually pretty good but comes from a character who is an a-hole so that can't be the correct way of thinking.
So yeah, I could see a liberal critic giving thumbs up to something that happened in the show every 5 minutes or so.

That is what worried me when gun control got brought up in The Punisher, but it wasn't as preachy. That's what may have upset the left leaning critics as well. I've seen articles mentioned that the show was a major missed opportunity to provide commentary on the current political climate with guns and gun violence. But the other great thing to is the fact that right ringers and the anti sjw crowd are pissed off at the show as well. All in all I say it was a big success!

But the other great thing to is the fact that right ringers and the anti sjw crowd are pissed off at the show as well. All in all I say it was a big success! The problem with 'Supergirl' is while I don't mind the show as I mentioned before it is nothing remotely like the majority of 'Supergirl' comic books and makes all the same mistakes the writers of the horrible adaption of 'Birds of Prey' made by not reading the comic books and making it into a 'Superman' TV show with a female lead. I own nearly every single Supergirl (Kara Zor-El and Linda Danvers) comic in comic book and graphic novel form and 'Supergirl' has long been portrayed as an edgy and aggressive character who in Kara’s case was pissed off over her planet being destroyed and was searching for answers and the remains of Kandor. She was way less trusting of humans than Clark and more Kryptonian ‘cause she spent more years on the planet. Supergirl’s attitude was one of the main things that separated Supergirl from Superman in the comics and Supergirl would get angry and beat up criminals and when they wouldn’t tell her what she wanted to know she would set parts of their clothes on fire with her heat vision or fly them up in the sky and drop them and fly down and save them right before they hit the ground until they told her what they knew. Unlike Clark Kara never held back and the government saw her as a threat to humanity and not a symbol of hope ‘cause after doing all these tests on her they concluded she was more powerful than Superman and they were worried she would wipe everybody out.
Those were some of the main differences that separated Supergirl from Superman and when you go to Linda Danvers (the biggest selling and longest running series of Supergirl) Linda was a recovering drug addict and a former member of demonic cult that sacrificed people to demons who took on the role of Supergirl to redeem her darkened soul and fought demons, werewolves, vampires, witches, monsters, aliens and angels and had her own superpowers which included the ability to shapeshift, heal people, teleport, shoot psionic blasts and see the last few seconds of a person’s life by looking into their eyes. She also had Wings of flame when she became the Earth Born Angel of Fire there was a constant battle of good and evil inside of her and at times you didn’t know if she was going to save people or kill since she regularly killed criminals and monsters and would burn them into ashes and rip their heads off with her hands.
Sadly instead of getting Kara or Linda we got a female Clark Kent who can't even fly in space when Supergirl (Kara Zor-El) spent a lot of time in space and it was on the remains of Kandor where she met this season's main villain, Reign who followed her to earth. The show gets better as it goes on but could have been awesome if it had been a real 'Supergirl' adaption and not 'Supergirl and Friends' and we are getting the Legion this season and Melissa has said there are plans to have Power Girl too.

Just finished ep 9 and 10 of The Punisher.
Boy there is no way this would get a favorable review from a left wing critic.
A politician shows up who is fiercely anti-gun and is shown to be a bit illogical, a hypocrite, a coward, and a liar. When is the last time a left wing politician was the "bad guy"? That's almost always a right winger in Hollywood.

Granted the politician was made out to be a hypocritical douche, but the Vet suffering from PTSD wasn't made out to be entirely sympathetic either. Both were extremes, presented in a rather stereotypical way of what each side thinks of the other far too often, I think that was done intentionally to show the absurdity of each side. Or maybe that was just what I took from it.

Supergirl is not the worst show, but yeah its not that great, some of the cast is decent and the effects are good. I did like seeing Martian Manhunter.
I didn't hate the punisher but it was kinda of a letdown there was not enough action. I hope next season is better and they step up.

So is it explained why Supergirl has a scar on her forehead? She's indestructible right? I've only really seen her in Crisis on Earth-X (not good) so don't know if they ever tried to explain the actresses real scar with some plot backstory.
Recast and reboot

Honestly I think after Daredevil, the Punisher is the best Marvel series but it has a lower rating than Jessica Jones or Luke Cage.
Anyway it's much better than Supergirl.

Recast and reboot She got the scar while she was still living on Krypton so it is a permanent part of her.
