Both movies were boring.

ASM 2 sucked whereas Homecoming allegedly stuck to the paint by numbers MCU formula Mmmm....that salt. Anywho, Homecoming bothered to try something new with Spidey that neither Raimi nor the ASM movies had the balls to do. And as for "MCU Formula", all that means anymore is that the film got done on time and on budget and didn't need tons of reshoots or re-editing. As for Iron Man, he was only in the movie for 10 minutes. But for some reason the holdover Raimi fans hate the idea of Spider-Man ever interacting with other superheroes and need him to be standalone for...reasons. And killing perfectly good characters willy-nilly is just poor writing. Look at DC and FoX-Men.

Except that all of this evinces a fundamental misunderstanding of the Spider-Man character and comics history. Gwen Stacy's death wasn't done flippantly in the comics and was one of the most important comic book deaths.

This is more true than Raimi or ASM. Hell, he DID want to join the FF at first because he was hoping they'd help him with the finances and his rep. And he wanted to be an Avenger too.

Oh, well Gwen's death wasn't a willy-nilly killing the way anti-MCU people want them to execute the entire cast en masse. Although really her character had been written into a corner by that point so there was little else to go with her. The real shocker was killing Norman at the same time.

I don't know what this statement is referring to or is supposed to mean. There's other stuff they could've done with Gwen, such as what Bendis did in Ultimate, although admittedly he really never went anywhere with it either for reasons partially unknown to me but presumably relating to bigger picture events (i.e., the end of the Ultimate universe) than USM itself.

All he did was swap MJ and Gwens' personalities. And as you said, it went nowhere.

All he did was swap MJ and Gwens' personalities. And as you said, it went nowhere. I was talking about how he brought her back from the dead and hinted at taking her character in new and interesting directions. Again, he did nothing with it long-term but at least positioned the character for new stories.
