Respected cinematographer Ronnie Taylor has died at the age of 93. Taylor was a world-class camera operator who worked with some of cinema's most demanding directors. When he elected to become a solo director of photography in the late 1970s, Taylor brought a wealth of experience to bear; one of my favourite examples of his technical ingenuity comes during an extraordinary keyhole set-piece in Dario Argento's horror picture 'Opera' (1987). Taylor was a stern, strong-willed, adventurous technician who could turn on the flair.

Leading choreographer Miriam Nelson has passed away aged 98. Nelson worked on some enduring film classics from Hollywood's Golden Age.
"When William Holden and Kim Novak slow-danced to “Moonglow” in the 1956 film “Picnic,” that was Ms. Miriam Nelson’s choreography. The Los Angeles Times later called the scene “one of the movie’s classic moments of sexual magnetism, the most graceful and sensual of mating dances.” Much of Ms. Nelson’s movie work was for nonmusicals. She choreographed the madcap party scene at Holly Golightly’s apartment in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” (1961), and also appeared in it as the glamorous party guest in gold brocade and pearls who argues with the man wearing a fake eye patch. Behind the camera, Ms. Nelson taught Tuesday Weld to watusi in “I’ll Take Sweden” (1965), Ingrid Bergman to do early disco moves in “Cactus Flower” (1969), Jerry Lewis to hoof it like a space alien in “A Visit to a Small Planet” (1960) and the whole cast of “Cat Ballou” (1965) — led by Jane Fonda, who she said was a balletically trained natural — to execute Old West dances for the hoedown scene. In “The Apartment” (1960), Variety called an office-party faux striptease choreographed by Ms. Nelson “sexier than many in a strip joint,” although the actress in the scene removed only her necklace."

I must have missed it, because I can’t imagine that it wasn’t listed here somewhere, but I was unable to find it through the search feature. In either event, we lost sweet little Gloria Jean Schoonover a few days back. I was pretty bummed about this unfortunate turn of events, but I knew that she was getting on in years. I just saw the Under-Pup no more than a few months back, and this is how I will always remember her. Rest in peace Gloria Jean ![](https://s26.postimg.cc/5cq8uoz2x/cry.gif)
