Legendary entertainer Charles Aznavour has died at the age of 94. Aznavour was an actor, musician, poet and songwriter of seemingly effortless ability. He appeared in smokey moonlit bars, under hot variety lights, on the grandest theatrical stages and moved deep within the fringe of the avant-garde. He was a consummate artist who leaves behind an extraordinary body of work.
Merci beaucoup et bonne nuit, Monsieur Aznavour.

Marceline Loridan-Ivens (19 March 1928 – 18 September 2018) Polish born, French writer and documentary film director. Marceline joined the French Resistance during the war, at 16 she was captured by the Gestapo in 1944 and deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau and was sent to other camps before being liberated in May 1945 by the Red Army. In 1963 Marceline met and married the documentary director Joris Ivens and assisted him in his international film work, co-directing some of his films. (pic below) Marceline and Joris Ivens travelled to North Vietnam in 1967 and over many months under the constant bombardment of American warplanes they filmed with the help of a local crew, Le 17e parallèle: La guerre du people , 17th Parallel: Vietnam in War . Offering an alternative perspective rarely shown at this time the venturous film is a powerful & damning indictment of war. From 1972 until 1974, Joris Ivens and Marceline Loridan, were given unprecedented access to film in China to document the last days of the Cultural Revolution. Yukong déplaça les montagnes , Comment Yukong déplaça les montagnes was released in 1976. This film whose title references the old Chinese story of an old man who moved the mountains is broken up into 13 parts and runs 763 min. It is a fascinating richly detailed portrait of Chinese Culture. Marceline Loridan-Ivens spent her life compassionately denouncing injustice and violence. She put her autobiographical reminisces on screen in her 2003 film "Birch-Tree Meadow". May she Rest In Peace... ![](http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-W6P0DAhQEPs/Tj2jtPu5wCI/AAAAAAAAHX4/QsnNsy0jakg/s1600/joris+ivens+y+marceline+loridan+en+tournage+une+histoire+de+vent+2.jpg)

I stand corrected. Here is the proper description: The song "Barcelona," a duet between Freddy Mercury and Caballé, originally released in 1987, became even more famous when used at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, where Montserrat Caballé was born.

Celeste Yarnall has passed away at the age of 74. Yarnall was born on July 26, 1944 in Long Beach, California, U.S. She scored parts in Jerry Lewis' comedy 'The Nutty Professor' (1963) and Norman Taurog's Elvis Presley vehicle 'Live A Little, Love A Little' (1968) before securing the title role in Jeremy Summers' adventure 'Eve' (1968). Yarnall helped lead the line in Eddie Romero's mad scientist picture 'Beast Of Blood' (1971) and was sensational in Stephanie Rothman's atmospheric vampire oddity 'The Velvet Vampire' (1971). Supporting roles in two of Michael Winner's crime films followed, the action thriller 'The Mechanic' (1972) and spy picture 'Scorpio' (1973), before Yarnall took a long period of leave from appearing in front of the camera in order to explore other career paths. Fortunately, she made a belated return in character roles when Tom Holland called her out of retirement for his crime picture 'Fatal Beauty' (1987), and once again she caught the acting bug. Yarnall continued honing her craft well into her final days, even taking a role in the Elvis mockumentary 'Elvis Found Alive' (2012), to bring things full circle.
Thanks for the movies, Ms. Yarnall.
