Screen icon Milena Dravic has passed away at the age of 78. Dravic was born on October 5, 1940 in Belgrade, Serbia. Trained as a ballet dancer, Dravic drew praise for her work in Veljko Bulajic's war movies 'Kozara' (1962), 'Looking Into The Eyes Of The Sun' (1966) and 'Battle Of Neretva' (1969). She was hand-picked for her roles in Valerio Zurlini's all-star, international war film 'The Camp Followers' (1965) and Miodrag Popovic's dark premonition 'Hasanaginica' (1967). Dravic performed extraordinary acts in Dusan Makavejev's experimental pictures 'Man Is Not A Bird' (1965) and 'W.R.: Mysteries Of The Organism' (1971). Bold, intelligent and instinctive, Dravic was noted for her technical acumen behind the camera and frequently shared filmmaking tips with young directors. She was also a photographer and political activist.
'Milena Dravic, who featured in more than 150 movies and television series over a career that spanned more than six decades, passed away in the early hours of October 14 after a long battle with an undisclosed illness, according to the Serbian Association of Dramatic Artists. The Belgrade-born Dravic, known for her portrayal of strong women in dramas and romantic comedies, began her acting career while still in high school when Czech director Frantisek Cap cast her in the 1959 movie The Door Remains Open. Three years later, she captivated Balkan audiences, winning the Yugoslav equivalent of an Oscar for best actress in Branko Bauer’s Prekobrojna (Overcrowded).'

Thanks for the movies, Ms. Dravic.

Terrific actor. I read what was to be one of James Karen's final interviews at the beginning of this month, an interview given for the magazine publication 'Fantasm Presents #2 : Linnea Quigley'. I ordered a limited edition, signed copy which came in the post at the start of October. He spoke of recent illness but also of his desire to return to acting someday. I hope he gets to sink a cold one up on a cloud with Don Calfa.
Thanks for the movies Mr Karen, and for all the fun memories ... see you on the other side ... ![](http://www.movpins.com/big/MV5BMjAwNTIxNjExM15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMDcxODE3Mg/craig-t-nelson-and-james-karen-in-poltergeist-1982.jpg)

Comic book artist Leone Frollo has died aged 87. Frollo illustrated the adult fairy tale comic 'Biancaneve' (1972) which inspired Piero Regnoli's 'The Princess On The Pea' (1976) and Mario Bianchi's 'Biancaneve & Co...' (1982). Frollo spent many years drawing comics in France.
Filmmaker John D. Lamond has died (it's believed he might have been 71). Lamond trained as an editor and took jobs as a freelance cutter with various advertising firms. He spent several years working in Australian film distribution before producing and directing the taboo-breaking documentaries 'Australia After Dark' (1975) and 'The ABC Of Love And Sex : Australia Style' (1978). He then directed two of the great Australian comedies, 'Felicity' (1979) and 'Pacific Banana' (1981). In between shooting these pictures, Lamond made the horror movie 'Nightmares' (1980) on a limited budget. Later in life, he took time out to travel through south-east Asia shooting random film footage.

Documentary filmmaker, Perry Miller Adato, passed away on September 16, 2018 at the age of 97. She was an historically significant American filmmaker, being the first woman in history to win the Directors Guild Award in 1978, going on to receive four more DGA Awards after that, and was the only woman to win that award until Sharron Miller received the first DGA Award for a non-documentary work in 1984. Adato's works include Picasso: A Painter's Diary; Carl Sandburg: Echoes of Silence; Eugene O'Neill: Glory of Ghosts; Gertrude Stein: When You See This Remember Me; Alfred Stieglitz: The Eloquent Eye; Dylan Thomas: The World I Breathe, and Georgia O'Keefe. She was a great advocate for the arts through her work and was also an influence on other filmmakers, including Ken Burns, who said in a phone interview that when watching her Georgia O'Keefe film in college, "I had this 'aha' moment where I said, 'Don’t show the actors, just use the chorus of voices under the photos.' She opened the door to using first-person voices, so my first film, Brooklyn Bridge had a third-person narrator and a chorus of first-person narrators, all off camera." Rest in peace, Ms. Adato. Thank you for all the gifts you gave to so many.

Raymond Chow, the co-founder of Hong Kong’s Golden Harvest that launched the careers of Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, died on Friday at the age of 91. Chow was an instrumental figure in building the golden era of the Hong Kong film industry, working under Run Run Shaw at Shaw Brothers Studio and co-founding Golden Harvest in 1970. He was also among the first to bring Hong Kong films to global attention through international partnerships and distribution. Born in Hong Kong in 1927, Chow studied journalism at St. John’s University in Shanghai and began working as a reporter at the Hong Kong Tiger Standard upon returning to the city in 1949. He had a brief stint with Voice of America before leaving journalism for filmmaking when he was recruited by Shaw Brothers Studio in 1958, joining the company as the publicity chief and later became head of the production department. He then left Shaw Brothers Studio, citing creative differences, and co-founded Golden Harvest with Leonard Ho Koon-Cheung in 1970. He reinvented industry practice by partnering with independent studios, contradicting the studio system at Shaw Brothers. Chow’s Golden Harvest was best known for discovering Lee, making him an international kung fu star and cultural icon who is still influential today. Their first film, “The Big Boss” (1971), made Lee an instant legend, setting new box office records at the time. It was then followed by “Fist of Fury” (1972) and “The Way of the Dragon” (1972). The subsequent “Enter the Dragon” (1973) was a co-production with Warner Bros., the first co-production between Hong Kong and Hollywood. Chan also found initial fame from filming the kung fu comedies “Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow” (1978) and “Drunken Master” (1978), produced by Golden Harvest. The pics became a new sub-genre of kung fu movies. Unlike many Hong Kong filmmakers, Chow was keen on venturing into the international market, particularly Hollywood. One of his most notable successes was “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” (1990), a screen adaptation of the comic series of the same name. The live-action film grossed more than $200 million worldwide. But Golden Harvest suffered great financial losses during the Asian financial crisis in 1998, the same year when Chow’s partner, Ho, died. Chow sold the company to China’s Wu Kebo in 2007 and it changed its name to Orange Sky Golden Harvest after merging with a mainland Chinese partner. Raymond Chow obit

Screen legend Shin Seong-Il has died at the age of 81. Seong-Il became an instant superstar in the 1960s and came to be regarded as one of South Korea's greatest actors. He worked with master filmmakers Shin Sang-Ok on 'Prince Yeonsan' (1961) and Jin-Woo Jeong on 'An Early Rain' (1966). His collaborations with experimental director Kim-Ki-Duk, such as 'Private Teacher' (1963), 'Barefooted Youth' (1964) and 'The Young Teacher' (1973), proved groundbreaking. Seong-Il served as Chairman of the Korean Actors League. Last year, there was a major retrospective of his work held at the Busan International Film Festival.
"If there is Toshiro Mifune in Japan, Marcello Mastroianni in Italy, Gregory Peck in America and Alain Delon in France, we have Shin Seong-il. For all the times and places, never was there a country that both film industry and art are so dependent on one person. Without understanding Shin Seong-il, it is hard to get grasp of Korean film history nor Korean modern cultural history."
- Park Chan-Wook

All of you who keeps this thread going are marvelous!
I have a question though.
Since I see this thread as a place of peace and rememberance, were everyone can just sit and think in silence of people gone.
My question: Is it OK to post a Thumbs Up on this thread, I've avoided it lately as to not disturb mourners, and show respect.
