I think so.
It's about time the Star Wars Fandom "shed some skin". Are you tires of uber fans that are so arrogant that think their word and expectations make up the rules to go by?
Well, I am. I'm also tired of everyboooody being a Star Wars Fan all of a sudden. Since TFA Disney milked the franchise for all it got. I say good riddance to overflowing toys.
At the same time Disneu shot itself in the foot and saved the franchise.
Since when did the Star Wars fandom become so cynical that it can't accept some new stuff, even if contradicts what came before or goes against expectations.
We were turning into trekkies!!!! Yoda can't do that, leia this, luke that. I say good riddance. I'm glad they let RJ have some freedom and infuse SW with a much needed dose of ambiguity and sense of wonder, even if it's perceived by the "uber fans# as a disservice.
I marvelled with the OT, but had to look away at the ewoks, i suufered through TPM, AOTC in a time when being a SW fan was a case for mockery. I survived it all.
TLJ divided fans. Good! And good riddance to those that go to a movie and expect whatever they want to happen, I want to be marvelled, be amazed. Some cringe? some stupid lines? That's nothing! The originality it infused the saga overcomes all that. The PT had originality but we knew where it was going, the clone wars was predictable, darth vader was predictable.
In a Long Long time this is the first one we no nothing what comes next. ANd even if we can guess, they still can surprise us like TLJ did.
Long time fans are turning their backs to the franchise? I say GOOD, even if it costs 800 million. Good bye know it all fans, you won't be missed.
Again, i Think Disney can suck it and gave a shot in the foot and are pissed for not making 2 billion, to that i say also good!

If they wanted a new direction, they never should've brought back the old guard. You want to try something different, great. But you shouldn't ruin classic characters if you're trying to build something unique. Make something that stands on its own instead of leaning on what came before and throwing it away when its convenient. Either way I think there's still potential for good storytelling in the SW universe, I just won't be following the continuing adventures of the core group presented in TLJ.

SW will endure like we did in the PT thank you very much. 500 miliion is good enough to keep making them. Half of the fandom can bail. I'll stick around. It's like this: I can hate my family, but be carefull if you talk openly against it. I will defend it to the end. SW is part of my family, I would never shame it in front of others. Shed the skin, starting with your lot.

On one hand you're criticizing me for apparently taking it too seriously (even though I said I haven't given up on SW completely), on the other hand you're saying SW is your family. It's been fun, get back to me when you grow up.

People who have a shallow respect for the mythos and lore of the saga. So much so that you would welcome it being turned into just another formulaic Disney movie franchise that looks like "the real thing" visually. But has none of the depth. The Force has become Disney magic. Yoda has become a jovial imp who lost all of his wisdom and is reduced to quoting household edicts like "We learn the most from our failures." Problem solved. Now let's dance around like a comical puppet on a children's show. A regular spot on Sesame Street can't be far off. Rey is the typical Disney warrior princess who comes from humble beginnings. She is loved by everyone and admired by her enemies. The Disney magic chooses her to be special because she is so sweet and virtuous, even if there's no logical explanation how she got that way. #Frozen #Mulan #Moana #Brave #Cinderella #Cars 3 #..... Kylo is the Disney antagonist to the warrior princess. He pulls off things that amaze his henchmen. But he always looks like a fool against the warrior princess. No line of logic to it. It's all part of the formula to give little girls self esteem and make them feel invincible. The story will be supported by fawning sidekicks who fill various roles: sycophants, buffoons, dependable female figures, incompetent male has-beens, etc. (If you think I'm making this up, go watch some of those Disney movies that I hashtagged above. Or watch almost any Disney channel show with a lead female character). They have replaced the less formulaic supporting cast of the previous trilogies. Many of whom have been unceremoniously brushed aside. Naturally you say good riddance. Because it's obvious you're part of the Disney faithful who this formulaic Sequel Trilogy is made for. They tailor made it for the traditional Disney audience. So go ahead and enjoy your fake SW. The blessing is that it's become obvious to the long rooted fanbase of SW that Disney's SW is made for Disney fans. There's enough of you that each coming Disney SW will make a billion dollars more or less. But with much of SW fanbase seeing it for the counterfeit that it is, future films won't make much more than that. You guys can gobble it up until you get bored with Rey and start looking for the next Disney warrior princess to fall in love with. And that's likely when Disney SW will tank, and SW can be put out of its misery.

I'm embracing the divide and stating if you want to walk, walk, I'll stay faithful, not to some characters but to the franchise as a hole. I don't like what they did to Luke, but accept it and embrace it as a different approach that I didn't envision, but I'm not denying it. Things don't go the way you want and you back way. Good. Good riddance I say, we don't need you.

I was just fed up of the hiatus. It's fine to read and discuss ad eternum old stuff. I want new movies, new series and new cartoons to discuss. Fandom would be stale in 10 years, with some books and comics. You want to turn your back? Do it, I'll be in the conventions discussing Rey. You'll be discussing Luke in rotj. All fine.

Shed the skin, starting with your lot. To that I say this: As is implied in the video, people want their heroes to be heroes. That also means that they expect them to go out like heroes when it's time for them to go. That's the way you handle iconic characters with a legacy. That's what you Disney sycophants don't get! And if you're stupid enough not to see that you will alienate fans by not doing that, then you deserve every last bit of backlash you get when it happens!
