Slowly but surely we're getting more reviews and they're still unbelievably positive. It's at 98% RT with 42 reviews and still at a 9.0/10 average, with many of the recent reviews being 5/5 star reviews. Metacritic is now even up to 90/100 keeping its title of best horror movie of the century for now with 17 reviews. A few new non-spoiler quotes from the recent reviews:
"It's a film that you don't so much enjoy as endure. But if you've got the constitution for it, it's unlikely a film will make you feel more than Hereditary this year." - Total Film, 5/5
"All I know for sure is that this flat-out unsettling, spine-tingling masterpiece is arguably the best film of the year and all around unforgettable." - Flickering Myth, 5/5
"Mostly I just felt really weirded out, which is what the movie wants... In that way, Hereditary is a true horror film." - Vox, 4.5/5
"Hereditary is basically a brilliant machine for scaring us, and Collette's operatic, hypnotic performance seals the deal every second she's on the screen." - The Guardian, 5/5
"Profoundly disturbing and absolutely terrifying, Hereditary will haunt you for days." - SciFiNow, 5/5

Now at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. Most of the negative reviews saw that they hated the experience or that they were disgusted by the extreme and so called traumatic events in the movie. This honestly only makes me more excited.

Frightening, uncomfortable, whatever other relevant adjective you want to use. Few cheap scares if any, just relies on tension, atmosphere, and man, some of those images and scenes I'll never get out of my head. Love it even more too that the trailer spoils little, if anything.
Go see this weekend

Honestly.... I bet it's going to be like "The Witch." One of those slow-burn type of horror movies that polarizes the audience. In other words paid critics will love it and regular audiences (the traditional core of horror film appreciation) may not.

Hopefully I can check this one out in theaters this weekend. You can't beat a good horror movie at the theater.

Back to 94% on Rotten Tomatoes with 89 reviews and a 8.6/10 average, it also has gone from an 86 to an 87 on Metacritic. If I can't watch it tomorrow at a special screening I'll have to wait another whole week before it premieres here so I hope I'll be able to make it.

it really is as great as the reviews rave. and here is why
1. the acting is oscar worthy, no kidding. if someone doesn't get nominated for this it will be a crime. it was simply incredible. 2. its really scary 3. it actually brings a few NEW ways to scare you or to build up tension. i thought that was almost impossible. but it is quite unique in several scenes.
i loved it. cant believe its the guys almost debut. the cinematography and the directing stand out as extremely nuanced and seems very experienced. go see it. 9/10 from me. could have been 10 had it not been for one minor tiny potential plot hole. but maybe its not there i need to do more research.

Go see this weekend right? how awesome was that that it relied on tension and atmosphere. i dont even recall any cheap scares to be honest. not the typical ones anyways. and what a great job on a non spoilery trailer finally what did you think was the most powerful/scary scene? mine were
the kids ride home after he killed the sister. incredible acting incredible directing. second to that was when he was in the classroom slamming his head into the desk. third would have been when charlie was for a minute the mother and you could hear how scared she was. that was heartbreaking.

Go see this weekend Is it better than "The Conjuring"? MUCH better. a different league of movies. Conjuring is a very good horror movie. But this is deeper, smarter, darker and better on all levels. Its somewhat similar to the VVitch in quality of cinematography and build up via horrific atmosphere rather than gore/scares.

In other words paid critics will love it and regular audiences (the traditional core of horror film appreciation) may not. its similar to the VVitch because of the quality of the craft behind it and the reliance mostly on grim atmosphere. But its far more "enjoyable" and faster than the VVitch. I really believe the audience will love this one just as much as the critics do.

Gotta say, I can't lie, didn't love or even remotely like this one (was pretty damn disappointed with it honestly) . I get that its supposed to be a "slow burn" & Toni is aces as the lead but it dragged like hell in a lot of parts . Didn't dig the pay off at all imo . It reminded me a lot of It Comes At Night which I also didn't care for.
5/10 (really wish that I saw that new Jodie Foster film instead ) oh well

Just saw it. Fucked up movie. I think I liked it, though. The last 10-15 minutes are terrifying.
