It (2017)
The kids are absolutely perfect here, as is Bill Skarsgård as the titular clown. There are always perfectly timed comedic moments to balance out the scarier moments, and it blends horror and humour perfectly. Worth a watch if you haven't seen already.

A Ghost Story, I can't really describe this one.......haunting and beautiful? But that's far too cliched, it's just....... sheer emotion. I just.... can't describe this one, all I can say is, just watch it.
It's on Amazon Prime for all you subscribers.

While cliched, haunting and beautiful is the exact way I described it. Such an incredible film. I can't believe it's getting no award attention.

JigsawI'm trying to find a singular redeeming feature that this movie may possess, and I'm struggling..... Ultimately, to find out that John Kramer had yet another "apprentice" or "accomplice" really shows how weak the writing is. If that's the best they can come up with, then I for one would much rather they left it well alone (something they should have done long before the 7th installment). (2/10) Lady Birdafter all the wonderful reviews etc, I was very much looking forward to this one.....I switched it off after 20 mins, feeling that I would be better served watching paint dry. I may go back and give it another go later, I'll see. Lady Bird was pretty dull tbh

I was just crying once the final scene ended. The entire last 10 minutes is crushing. The song that plays fits the mood perfectly as well.

Christine (1983). 8/10. Although I prefer the book and LeBay's spirit as a main villain instead of Christine, I think this movie is one of the best adaptations of King's books.

If no one minds, may I post photos from the last two movies I saw? Just to offer a few comments on the both of them… First… And Then There Were None (1945) A longtime favorite of mine, and by far the best film adaptation of Agatha Christie’s book, this is one of René Clair’s best pictures—light, clever, and very funny in that black-comedy way. (The late film critic Ken Hanke touched on an excellent point, too, when he wrote that, in spite of a well-written script, its greatest joys are visual, defined by Clair’s mise-en-scène; it is rare that comedy is conveyed just by camera placement and shot choice, but the keyhole sequence is defined exactly by that, and it’s hilarious.) With all that said, I do have a problem with an ending—not that it’s the (shall we say) alternate ending, with which I’m fine, but that it just ends too quickly. It all wraps up so neatly—and, after how great the rest of it has been, that’s a trifle disappointing. Still a marvellous little picture. Second… The Golden Compass (2007) One of the best children’s fantasy films, based on Philip Pullman’s intriguing, thought-provoking, and wonderfully-written series. Far richer and more thematically and philosophically rewarding than, say, Harry Potter or the (cinematic, not literary) Lord of the Rings series—so, of course, it flops at the box-office and never receives its well-deserved (and, sadly, never-made) sequel. Fie. Magnificent performances from Daniel Craig, Nicole Kidman, and especially then-newcomer Dakota Blue Richards. What an intelligent, entertaining, and satisfying epic of a movie.

forgot to mention i saw bram stoker's dracula the other day......it's immensely operatic, the designs, the scale, even the performances (keanu was very questionable though), nuanced but grand, not cheesy, simply grand.

A Corner in Wheat (1909, 14 minutes) - 8/10. Well-made drama from D.W. Griffith. Filmmaking technique is unusually good for 1909.

Coil Winding Machines (1904) - 2-minute documentary showing women working at a factory. Not exactly entertaining, but it is fascinating. I give it 7.5/10 for historical interest (though obviously a much lower rating for entertainment value).
It is public domain (copyright expired) and can be viewed on YouTube:

The Magic Sword (1901) - 3-minute fantasy film with great special effects. Very entertaining. Also an early example of a film with a plot.
I viewed via a DVD, but it's also on YouTube if you want to check it out.

Today I saw The Shape of Water, loved it, The Creature From the Black Lagoon falls in love with a mute cleaning lady in the 1950's. Michael Shannon and Richard Jenkins are great in this!
