Even now, as Fox serves the fans another generous helping of excrement, people are, yet again, trying to make one of their film's internally consistent. Look at Martin Brundle - Martinfly ; he's dedicated a considerable portion of his life to making sense of Fox's continuity gaffs and blatant disregard for the source material. Why bother? It's nearly over. The Fox X-Men movies are brilliant and fine. "Dark Phoenix" has been sadly butchered in the post-production phase, that's it. Nothing a Director's Cut cannot fix. I dedicated a very small portion of my life, don't worry man. It's all put on-screen after all. Fox X-Men nitpickers, bashers and trolls are 100% funny. For decades they lived a very angry life. Just change franchise LOL They don't even have to that because --- it's almost over.

Wow... I guess word of mouth is hitting hard. Or maybe people are saving their movie time for Spider-man? The X-films have always had big drops and this has far more competition than any other X-film. Judging from what I am seeing on social media the general census seems to be that it’s “okay”. It has enough cool visual effects, action, and moves at a fast pace to make it watchable. But being “okay” is not enough to save it people wait for okay films to be release on home media. And Fox owed their fans something much better than just "okay" if they were going to take on this story for their final entry.

Just change franchise LOL Individually they have had some great success and some great failures. As a series? It doesn't work as a whole because there was never much forethought. In the beginning because they were helping to recreate and define comic book movies. They didn't plan to much for the future because they didn't know there was going to be a next movie. Once comic book movies caught on though you can't really use that excuse. They just didn't care to or weren't able to keep a narrative and continuity between movies very well.

Edit: whoops got the dates mixed up, thought the merger talks started before filming started, filming started in summer 2017 the merger rumours started in the fall/winter of 2017, not the other way around, my bad.

I can only judge what I saw and, in my very qualified opinion, it sucked. If they intended for this to be something else, they shouldn't have released a subpar product. You can keep making excuses for the film all you want, that's your prerogative. At the end of the day people don't want to spend hard-earned money on undercooked vanity projects.

I remember a while back when Stan Lee said he was fond of Storm because controlling the weather isn't an evolved ability or something like that. This made me think about how powers work. Especially mental powers. Like all of them are telekinesis based on themes created by the person. Jean is a powerful telekinetic that can create friction in the air to create fire. Same with Storm being a telekinesis that is able to create electricity and water to simulate the weather. Rogue being a tactile telepath. It takes the characters down to their bare bones, but it could explain a lot of things. If you can stimulate friction in the air to create fire, you are pyrokinetic. Telekinesis, as is frequently depicted in Marvel comics, is the ability to move and manipulate objects from a distance. Telepathy is the ability to intercept and interpret the brain waves of others as thoughts. Some telepaths can control the brainwaves of others as well. Since the brain controls the body, telepathy does not merely end at mind reading. Filmmaker David Cronenberg aptly described telepathy as the linking of two (or more) nervous systems separated by space. The Phoenix Force is the embodiment of all psionic energy that ever was and ever will be. It is a "creation force," which makes sense as the act of creation requires conscious thought and intent. The Phoenix Force augments Jean's natural mutant abilities as a telepath and a telekinetic. Whereas she was able to read the thoughts of one or more individuals on her own, with the Phoenix Force she can read, control and project her thoughts into the minds of hundreds of thousands if not millions of sentient beings. Her telekinetic abilities are also similarly augmented. Whereas she was previously able to halt, move, lift or throw objects mentally, with the Phoenix Force, she is able to manipulate objects on the sub-atomic level telekinetically. When Jean disintegrates someone in one of those ash clouds the Fox movies are so fond of, she is pulling them apart molecule by molecule. There is likely no heat involved. The Phoenix Force can do a bunch of other stuff as well. Storm is an atmokinetic; she can mentally manipulate the Earth's magnetic field to change the weather patterns of its ecosystem (or any planet's echo system for that matter). If she were telekinetic, she could lift a large boulder --- directly --- with her thoughts. What I mean is to move the molecules in the air to create friction enough to make fire or electricity. Also, I remember they started using the term psychokinetic for those that went past being a regular telekinetic or telepath. Usually the stronger characters like Jean, Legion and Nate Grey.
Yes, those are specific terms categorizing what they can do. What I was saying was how they can do it. And notice I said the characters create themes for themselves. Take the mutate Spider-man for instance. He's more themed as an insect and not really a human spider. He doesn't create webbing or stick to walls like a spider. His sticking to walls is more a tactile telekinetic ability. It's a mental ability that allows him to adhere to a service on any part of his body (he can subconsciously make his mask stick to his face). And he got these powers after seeing a spider bite him. Rogue is nervous about kissing a boy and was probably wondering what he was thinking. Gets a power where she takes the mind of a person she touches. Tactile telepathy. The characters are all themed because it would be boring if they all were basic telekinetics and/or telepaths.
And Storm doesn't just change weather patterns. She can shoot lightning from her hands. Even make electricity in her eyes. She can fly by moving the wind around her. Hell, she can actually move things by making a tornado under it. She can create ice by freezing the air. She's creating those elements. Not just manipulating Earth's magnetic field. If she knew how to control her powers down to the base telekinetic level, she'd be the most powerful character in Marvel. But then doing that takes away from the theme of her powers.

Just make the movie as it was intended to be and not worry about what comes after. But, then again, you have people crying about how the MCU aren't self-contained stories. Why isn't this movie a self-contained story that is open-ended like they claim these movies are? Why did they have to change it so much to butcher it? And I thought they only changed the third act. What about the rest of the movie?

I don’t care what Armin has to say. He doesn’t even try to be a balance reviewer and it seems to be one of those dudes that pretends to read X-Men comics.

what's the projection for complete box (domestic and/or ww) office now you think? Well like I said the other day, Apocalypse had a $9.9 million third weekend and then made another $19 million. This just had a $9 million weekend, it's not making another $19 million. Theatres are obliged to keep a hold of a movie throughout its first two weekends, I imagine it'll have a big theatre drop next weekend so it'll have another big drop. I can't see it hitting $70 million domestic. Worldwide I don't really know, maybe $270 million. jesus that would be like a 75-125m loss theatrically.

Storms direct manipulation of lightning is a poor implementation of what should be an indirect manipulation of plasma energy. Most of that was done by writers who were desperate to ship her with Thor. Thor creates, absorbs and redirects lightning. That's not really weather control, it's energy manipulation.

dazz Vassaggo Lord Death Man ThatGuy About the Phoenix thing: it’s basically Chris Claremont’s interpretation of the “Phoenix”. Phoenix was just a codename after Jean reaches her full potential as psychic that was unlocked by a nameless primal force that bonded. The Phoenix aura is a natural part of Jean and it was something that her daughter Rachel developed without the need of bonding with a cosmic entity. With all due respect, I don't have to read the original comic book series to understand its film adaptation and whatever explanation provided by 'Dark Phoenix' was half-@$$ed.

Where is your unsubstantiated, insider anecdote that defends this film's current dire situation at the box office? If you go by the RT audience score, DP currently has a D. That's a passing grade - nothing less than what THEE quintessential X-Men story deserves. Don't worry, someone is going to leak the two-parter storyboards online, and the studio, filmmakers and, the actors will be completely vindicated.

This is honestly how I feel. I want the MCU to treat the Phoenix storyline like they did with Uncle Ben and Spider-Man's origin. Just skip it. I don't need to see this storyline done again. I honestly didn't need to see it attempted a 2nd time. There are plenty of other X-Men story's that the MCU can use. I don't think anybody needs a Phoenix storyline for a good 20 years.
