Eternals releases in the states this weekend and I know that it was release early in some parts of the world.
So I figured I'd get this thread up so you guys can talk about the film without having to use spoiler tags.

I'll put this here even though it's just quick thoughts that are spoiler-free, merely wanted to give my first impressions. I saw it tonight with four other people who have been with the MCU from the beginning. Now mind you, they're all like me as far as never reading the comics and only becoming fans in 2008 so maybe if we'd read the source material we'd feel differently, but that doesn't make our opinions any less valid. When the credits began to roll, all of us were in agreement that we didn't understand all the crappy reviews; we all enjoyed it very much. Our ages ranged from me being the old fart in my late 50s to a co-worker who's 40 and her 17 year old daughter, to my nephew and his fiance, 30 and 31 respectively. My co-worker went so far as to say it's one of her favorites out of the entire MCU, she commented on how good all the cast members were. So it obviously had cross-generational appeal, at least in my group. The audience seemed to enjoy it as well...admittedly though, opening night is typically filled with fan-persons (not gonna say fanboys anymore, the audience for the MCU is as much women as men now). I'll get into more depth tomorrow, but I will say tonight that this is a solid 7.5 / 10 from me...not the best, but a very strong movie nonetheless.

There were far too many DC superhero references in this supposed Marvel movie for me. It was like the most expensive advert for the DCEU that's ever been made I really didn't like that. Druig and Kingo's butler were the best characters and the Deviants looked like shit. It wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst. This is the one Marvel movie that I felt was too funny for its own good and that's not a compliment.

I'll echo Spike's sentiments and say I don't understand the negative reviews. I've been a fan of these characters from the comics for over 30 years and my wife had no idea who they were and we both thought the film was fantastic. Frankly I'm surprised at how good it was, considering all the negative reviews.
It should be a disaster. It introduces a ton of new character at once, it jumps around through time, it has drastic tonal shifts, even within individual scenes. Yet somehow it all comes together. It works. The story is compelling, the characters are genuinely nuanced, nothing feels forced. I think the audience's unfamiliarity actually helps with some of the zanier aspects of the film; if you don't know what to expect, it's hard to say something feels off or out of character. It had the right amount of humor, action and drama. Most importantly, it felt unique within the MCU, and this is a great thing.
Full spoilers ahead.
I didn't love turning Ikaris into the villain, though to be fair he's arguably not a villain from a larger perspective. He's actually trying to save lives. Still would've been more satisfying to see him have a redemptive arc by the end, but maybe they'll save that for a later film (I don't think he's dead).
Most of my gripes are only minor nitpicks. For example, I didn't like the Celestial speaking English. They couldn't afford to make up a language and use subtitles for Space God? Again, not a big deal, just a creative choice I didn't agree with. I was also surprised they killed a few of the Eternals off in their debut film. I always had a soft spot for Gilgamesh in the comics, but I wasn't thrilled with this interpretation so I'm not too upset he didn't make it. There wasn't anything wrong with him in this flick, there wasn't anything terribly interesting or fun about him, either.
Everything else was great. Kingo's assistant was funny without being overused, everyone did creative things with their powers, and in a lot of ways these immortals felt more human than many of the characters in a standard MCU movie. It seemed like everyone understood their character, which in a film such as this is no small feat. And again, they had nuance. Ultimately, it's a band of heroes fighting monsters and coming together to stop the big bad. But it's a bit more complicated than that. In many ways it's the ultimate moral dilemma playing out here. Maybe it would've made a better Disney+ show, but it did an incredible job cramming all of this material into a feature length film and still telling a cohesive story.
Casually weaving the Black Knight into the story was intriguing enough, then they literally throw in Pip and Starfox during the mid-credit scene. It sets up so many fun possibilities without making the movie feel like a commercial for the MCU outright. We may never get a sequel, but we're sure to see these characters again, and I'm certainly looking forward to it.

To be fair the film was a bit of a disaster but it corrected itself in the last few minutes. It was touchy feely and if you like that sort of thing that's good for you. But it was Ikaris turning into a villain that gave the film some depth instead of continuing it's hippie band of love rubbish. At times it felt like Love Actually with monsters.

I thought it already had depth, but while I didn't love the turn, I appreciated that the movie went for it. He's set up as the 'best of them,' (and again, from a certain point of view he wasn't wrong. Kingo agreed with him in the end and quit on the team, and nobody addresses that at the end of the film) only to have him become the villain, but not in the obvious, "I do what I want because I can," kind of way. He had his reasons, and he was conflicted even after he had Ajak killed.

No, it didn't really have depth I felt it was too preachy up until Ikaris's betrayal where his reasons were fantastically written and lifted the whole film out of garbage. The movie wasn't bad but I'm not in any hurry to watch Eternals again either.

This movie was fucking awesome! 10/10 One of the rare MCU movies to receive such a rating from me.
I hope Chloe Zhao makes another MCU film!

Was there another end credits scene after the pip and eros? That scene upset me so much I didn't stay to see. Lol Dane opens a box containing a sword, revealing himself to be the Black Knight. An voice then asks him "Do you think you're ready for that?"...the voice belongs to Blade.

Was there another end credits scene after the pip and eros? That scene upset me so much I didn't stay to see. Lol Why did it upset you? Because "someone" took the job of an actor by Playing Eros. Said someone was only cast because of their star power in another genre. Kind've like when someone was cast in that small role in Game of Thrones. Stick to what you do, or if you're going to branch out, earn it in small roles in small movies and work your way up. Like Justin Timberlake did, and Zendaya did. Because of that, I now accept them as actors.

Too big a movie for him to be in at this stage in his crossover. The only reason he was in that is because of his star power in another area. Its unearned privilege. Do you know how many thousands of real actors would kill to get even that role? And he gets it just because. It sticks in my craw a little. But that's just my opinion.

Overall, I liked the movie. Some nitpicks:
They could have done a better job explaining how the main Deviant obtained the ability to steal the powers of the Eternals.
Too much going back in forth in time, IMO.
Some of the CGI was bad, especially Pip the troll.
Too much jokey jokes, a common problem in the MCU.

8/10. Redesign the Deviants (they’re ugly and bland), make the Eternals’ powers less derivative of other heroes (Superman, Flash, Quicksilver) and make Cersei less dull and you’ve got a top five MCU movie. As is it’s a top ten.
