Harbaugh finalizing Chargers deal. Lou Holtz 2.0 Urban Meyer 2.0
Except that he's already had NFL success. Urban Meyer certainly never did.

There is a report out that Belichick is not necessarily going to get the Falcons job - - which makes some sense because it has been a while since that second interview happened.
Now there are only four openings left: Carolina, Seattle, Washington, and Atlanta. I don't think the first three ever interviewed him.
If Belichick sits this year, does he ever pass Shula for most wins? By 2025, Belichick would be 73. The only NFL head coach who has ever coached as a 73-year-old was Romeo Crennel, and that was as an interim coach. Halas, Levy, Carroll - - all ended (if Carroll is done) at 72.

Weird that nobody wants 'the greatest coach of all time.' Maybe a team in the UFL will give him a call?

He's 72; hardly too surprising that teams aren't falling over themselves to hire him at this point. People forget that there wasn't much of a market for Brady either after he left the Pats. There were a couple of organizations in the running, but supposedly-interested teams like the Titans, 49ers, and Raiders made moves that made it clear early on that they weren't going to bother. It comes down to how much teams think they're going to get from the hire - why hire a coach in his 70s who'll probably give you a limited number of years when there are much younger candidates available with the potential to be longer-term guys? It's the same reason teams didn't go for Brady as robustly as was expected - they doubted he'd be able to play at an elite level either at all or for much longer (he'd soon prove them wrong).

Panthers hiring Bucs OC Dave Canales as their HC. The "short QB whisperer" - he's done promising work with Russell Wilson and Baker Mayfield. Maybe he can turn Bryce Young into something.

Several teams wanted Brady, but I think we can assume he didn't want them. He surely made that clear early on, which is why they made their moves accordingly. Hell, the 49ers wanted Brady in 2023. Nobody wants Belichick except Arthur Blank, and his own front office is against him. Are there no teams on the cusp of winning a title? Not a single team in the NFL thinks they're just a head coach away from being contenders in the next two seasons, and 'the greatest football mind of all time' on the sidelines wouldn't make the difference? The guy was fucking fired for good reason, the other teams aren't blind. He didn't have one bad season, he's had four straight. The best he could do was outspend the entire league in free agency in 2021 and all it got him was 10-7 and a blowout playoff loss where the other team never punted. It's been all downhill from there. The legend of Bill Belichick crumbled before our eyes the last four years. Well, not mine. I already knew he was a fraud.

They might have expressed some initial interest but most ultimately were against overpaying Brady for what (they thought) he might have left in the tank - in contrast to the Bucs who made it clear early on they'd give him whatever he wanted. The 49ers wanted Brady in 2023 after he'd proven he was still one of the best QBs in the league - they didn't want him that badly in 2020. I find it hard to believe Brady would turn down San Francisco if their offer was attractive enough, being from the area. Who don't already have a head coach? No successful program is going to fire their coach to bring in a 72-year-old.

Falcons to hire Rams DC Raheem Morris as Head Coach.
Surprising hire. Morris was the Falcons DC for a year under Dan Quinn if I remember correctly. Apparently Arthur Blank wanted Belichick but the front office didn't. I figure they were more wanting to keep their jobs and figured if Belichick got hired he would clean house.
Last I saw was Ben Johnson was the favorite for the Washington job and Mike MacDonald was the favorite for Seattle. That would leave Belichick, Vrabel, and Carroll without gigs for 2024.

Looks like the Texans and Ravens get to keep their vaunted coordinators another year at least.

It seemed a bit fast for him to become a HC so soon. I originally predicted Quinn to Seattle but that playoff performance by Dallas has really left a stink on him. I think Washington and Seattle are just waiting for the Ravens and Lions to get eliminated to make those hires official.

During the Brady years, all I heard was how Belichick could make a football player out of anyone. Suddenly that narrative has shifted to, "Belichick the coach was done in by Belichick the GM." Or maybe he was never that good at either job, but it didn't matter because he had Brady.

Fitting bookend to Belichick's drafting expertise of late. Even though most fans liked that flier for how deep he landed in the draft.
