Seahawks hired Baltimore DC Mike MacDonald as their new head coach. He did great work with the Ravens but whether it translates to the big chair remains to be seen. He could be another Ryans or another Staley.

Dan Quinn to Washington. Pretty clearly their 3rd choice.

Dan Quinn to Washington. Pretty clearly their 3rd choice. Even if it doesn't work out (does it ever for Washington?) they took Dan Quinn away from Dallas. So that's nice.

Dan Quinn to Washington. Pretty clearly their 3rd choice. Very odd choice imo. That job was arguably the best or 2nd best available depending on how you value having a franchise QB or not. They are even in position to draft a franchise QB at 2nd overall as well as a ton of cap space to build that team how they want. Ben Johnson staying in Detroit I think really boned them. However they couldn't get another candidate other than Quinn? Maybe its just how badly Dallas looked in the playoffs thats hampering my judgement on this hire. It really does seem like they missed out on who they really wanted and was left with the last job opening and missing out on a chair in musical chairs. I would have expected a more offensive minded coach to pair with either Williams, Maye, or Daniels whichever QB they go with. They can still go that route depending on who Quinn hires at OC but I wouldn't have the most faith they get a good one if I were a Washington fan. That said, that fanbase is still likely riding the high of ousting Snyder that moving forward everything will be viewed as roses until that high wears off.

Packers hire Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley as defensive coordinator. An out of no where hire that people covering the Packers didn't even have him listed as a candidate that got interviewed.
This is an entirely underwhelming hire. He was a former DB coach in SF under Robert Saleh as well as a DB coach in CLE under former GB DC Mike Pettine. He was a DC for 1 year at Ohio State. He was likely on the hot seat at Boston College. He apparently is good friends with Matt Lafleur which isn't a great sign as that seemed to be the reason Joe Barry was hired. Is Matt just going to hire his friends all over again? Plus the early rumors are that all the position coaches will stay the same. This tells me two things. Either GB is once again going cheap on the coaching staff (not like this Hafley will command a high salary) or they don't even trust this guy to bring in his own coaches. Neither is a good sign. GB has a history of going cheap on coaches and not firing them only waiting for their contracts to run out instead. There is no salary cap on coaches and its not like the Packers are hurting for money. Rumors are they will transition into a 4-3 or 4-2-5 press man scheme. At least we as Packers fans won't have to see 3rd and 3 with DBs playing 10 yards off every damn time or seeing Preston Smith guarding Davante Adams in man coverage.

I think having a perfect bracket in the Tournament was more likely than guessing how this coaching off-season would play out.

Titans hired Browns OL coach Bill Callahan to work under their new HC, Brian Callahan.

Caught the end of the Pro Bowl last night, while I was flipping through the stations. I guess I had forgotten it was flag football now. My wife says, "So it's flag football now, I see why that makes sense. But why do they still give out trophies and stuff?" I just raised my palms. The skills competitions might still be fun to watch, but I think it's time to abolish the game when you're no longer actually playing the game.

I think shifting the focus to the "Skills Events" is probably one of the smarter things the NFL has done. The actual Pro Bowl game itself is still a non-factor, that's true, but the overall event is a nice way to showcase these players demonstrating their athleticism and competitiveness in a fun way with stuff like tug of war, kick-tack-toe, gauntlet challenges, dodgeball etc. The players are having fun, it's all relatively inoffensive, and we don't have to complain too much about the pointlessness of the central Pro Bowl exhibition game.

The who-gives-a-fuck flag football game is way better than the flag-with-pads game they used to play.

They have professional football players at the podium accepting awards for winning a game of flag football. There were offensive and defensive MVPs. This is worse than the NBA with the Lakers putting up a banner for winning the in-season tournament.

Lamb made a twisting catch while falling down out of bounds yesterday and all I could think about was how easy it is to get hurt doing stupid stuff like this. I get why guys don't want to play a tackle football game that means absolutely nothing; but why do this at all if you don't have to? Sure, you could get injured in practice, but practice is necessary. This isn't. And I can assure you, nobody cares about the outcome.

You could get hurt walking down the street, but I have a guess as to how you're more likely to get injured. I don't know how much wincing I would've done watching the skills challenges (not that I saw them); but if I was a Cowboys fan, let alone the owner, I would've been scared shitless as Lamb was going to the ground at full speed for an overthrown ball in a flag football game.
