If you can't trust what the bible says then why exactly are you a Christian? I don't blindly trust what the bible says. There is a key word there, see if you can figure out what it is. Explain what you mean by blindly trust.

I accept that the bible was written by a lot of different men for a lot of different reasons, some good some bad and that a lot of the accounts of what happened are not eye witness, even if they were and the writers meant the best they were relying on memory from a long time ago. Also there is the matter of context and intended audience.

I don't blindly trust what the bible says. There is a key word there, see if you can figure out what it is. Explain what you mean by blindly trust. Why exactly would that need to be explained? Obviously, blind trust would mean trusting something without a rational reason for doing so. Trust is EARNED! And when only if/when something demonstrates itself to be trustworthy and reliable should it be trusted. Even the bible itself doesn’t demand blind trust, yet so many Christians base their entire moral, and ethical foundation on blind trust.

If you can't trust what the bible says then why exactly are you a Christian? Why are Catholics Christian? Why are Pentecostals Christian? Why are Jehovah’s Wintesses Christian? Why are Mormons Christian? They all disagree with each other about who Christ was and what he said, yet they all practice and follow what they believe his teachings to be. Maybe he believes in many aspects of the Christian philosophy and the central teachings of Christ that he accepts as true and just. Just because he doesn’t believe in Christianity the way that you believe in it doesn’t mean he should be a Christian. Does it?

You basically resort to cherry picking what you want to accept and reject. The question still stands why are you a Christian if you don't trust the bible, Gadreel you heretic?

captainbryceGadreel is sceptical about any of the words attributed to Christ being genuinely his, so that can't be it. In fact he isn't sure whether any of it is authentic, and yet he finds it shocking to be labelled a heretic.

All three deny the trinity, therefore all three are technically heretics.

That is just plain stupid, let alone basing their whole life on it!

So far on this board, BOTH you and Cool GJS have labelled Gadreel a 'heretic'. 1. This is not a caring loving Jesus like Christian thing to do. 2. You BOTH have the temerity to do this because another believer in Christ doesn't agree with your on particular extreme and fundamentalist version of 'Christianity'. As a humble atheistic agnostic, I sincerely cannot stand your hypocrisy and just plain one eyed nastiness. Even though I am an unbeliever, I still maintain that everyone has a right to their personal beliefs without being vilified and denounced. You are BOTH a disgrace as humans IMHO and the epitome of hypocrisy.

Face it Goz you have nothing of any value whatsoever to add to this board. Maybe it's time you took another sabbatical away from this place? Have you tried the Muslim world? Third-wave phoney feminists like yourself are treated like queens around those parts, you'll love it.

Believe what you want and don't diss other forms of your belief. Being an agnostic atheist is way easier because we don't believe in anything much at all....except maybe humanism and when it is pulverised by you fundy Christian hypocrites, it gets a tad annoying!

and that a lot of the accounts of what happened are not eye witnesses Exactly... Take for example... Adam and Eve... & Noah and his Ark. Did they write their autobiographies? No. Did their children write their biographies? No. Did their best friends write about them? It seems, No. So, it was all written as hearsay... And as pointed out by another poster... those stories were with a limited vocabulary, in languages that had to be (inaccurately?) translated, and had to be interpreted. So, Who knows what really happened. To take it all as 100% historical fact, is pretty foolish...

Gadreel obviously isn't as confident in the Holy Spirit's capabilities.

captainbryce Gadreel is sceptical about any of the words attributed to Christ being genuinely his, so that can't be it. Actually, it CAN be. There’s a difference between being “skeptical” and being “cynical”. A skeptic merely questions, which is fine. But questioning authenticity of the entirety of any given work isn’t the same thing as rejecting the entire work as worthless. This is something you obviously do not understand. Well I doubt he finds it “shocking” that someone like you might be inclined to label anyone who disagrees with you a heretic. I think it is you who finds it shocking that someone else claiming to be Christian might actually interpret what being a Christian means DIFFERENTLY than you do. That’s your problem! Well, your opinion is noted. It’s also irrelevant since you are not (and never were) an authority over who can or can’t be a Christian in the first place. I could very easily argue that you demonstrate in this very statement that YOU are not a Christian since you are going directly against the teachings of Christ by proclaiming this judgment in the first place. See how that works? The bottom line is, it doesn’t matter what you say, or who YOU deem to be Christian or not because you do not matter to anyone other than yourself. The fact that YOU cannot accept other people is why you have this need to label people as something other than what they label themselves. That’s an internal insecurity that you have; not gadreel! Because you are an insecure, self-absorbed, holier than thou, narcissist who has a desperate desire to force your “superior” interpretation of Christianity onto everyone else. That’s how little humility you have. It would be “shocking” if you ever stopped!
