... are straight-up horror? I ask because it seems like most (if not all) of them mix it with comedy and/or adventure. I guess it's to make sure it's not too intense for children(?)

I suppose it depends on the kid. Day of the Triffids (1962) was one of my favorites when I was young. I thought of it as "cozy" SF/horror: not so terrifying as to be unsuitable.

Something Wicked This Way Comes is clearly aimed at kids and has some genuinely scary moments.
A child could probably watch and enjoy the Hammer movies - Dracula, Curse of Frankenstein etc.

A lot of Vincent Price movies I would think.

Scooby Doo on Zombie Island? There's of course comic relief from Scooby and Shaggy, but it's otherwise pretty dark and serious.

And, in the same vein as above, Scooby Doo and the Witch’s Ghost. Also The Witches, of which politicidal just reminded me in another thread.

Some more animated ones: Coraline, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Monster House, Paranorman.
Some of the Disney Channel movies, too: Smart House, Don’t Look Under the Bed, Tower of Terror.
2015’s Goosebumps? Speaking of which, that whole TV show. A later series based on Stine’s books, The Haunting Hour, had better production-values and was more horrific (while still being for kids), but without Goosebumps’ nostalgia and charm.
And Are You Afraid of the Dark?, of course, for my money the best ‘90s kids’ horror show.
Oh! and The Watcher in the Woods (’80). Was The Blob made for kids?

Considering what the OP asked, it's a bit ironic that on imdb it lists adventure and comedy, but NOT horror.

I first saw the Movie "ALIEN" when I was just 4 years old and it didn't scare me, not even the chestbursting scene.

Well, I also first saw " ALIENS" and " JAWS" when I was 4 as well and they also both didn't scare me either. Strangely, the only movie that ever scared me when I was a kid was " ARACHNOPHOBIA". I am 34 now and I'm still to this very day afraid of Spiders!

anthonyrocks spiders might be more frightening to a little kid because they are something that would be encountered in real off screen life … alien life forms that burst out of chests and sharks … prolly not so much. Personally .. I like spiders … especially tarantula types !

You want to hear a Funny Story about the Movie " JAWS" ? Years after Steven Spielberg had made it, he was overheard saying to somebody that ever since he made " JAWS" he has not gone back out into the ocean and when they asked him "why ?", Spielberg said "because they know what I've done". LOL!

For me, putting 'horror' and 'children' in the same sentence is an oxymoron. I would never let any children of mine (if I had any) watch anything that was even remotely 'horror'. I think the world has enough of that in it anyway.

rudeboy politicidal @moviebuffbrad Nalkarj I'm sorry, but I'm afraid you've mentioned horror movies targeted at children mixed with the other genres I mentioned or horror movies targeted at adults. It got a PG rating, but it was a technicality. I don't think that's horror. Was The Blob made for kids? I don't know; I've never seen it. Goosebumps (2015) is half comedy though. Considering what the OP asked, it's a bit ironic that on imdb it lists adventure and comedy, but NOT horror. I've seen it and I agree with that listing. The horror felt very secondary. Hmmm... Let's say under 13. For me, putting 'horror' and 'children' in the same sentence is an oxymoron. I would never let any children of mine (if I had any) watch anything that was even remotely 'horror'. I think the world has enough of that in it anyway. While I was researching about this topic, I came across this video (which I had already seen a long time ago but I had forgotten it). What do you think about it?

VitsIt isn’t as dark or depressing like most horror films though.
