No its not. Go through all the social media reactions to black panthers nomination. People are mocking the nomination, called black panther overrated, medoicre and undeserving. Its a black day for the comic book movie genre charzhino I'm considering self-deleting from reality. Can you give me a few pointers on exactly which moment to do so? I can't stand all of this "melodrama" and, I wish to avoid the "discourse." Save me. Maybe when you stop acting like a self righteous **** ********.

Sifting through all the hate from DC regulars about this movie having Black People in it, you can at least appreciate what it means for the genre as a whole: Remember when they were trying to push the 'popular movie' category, and it felt like a slap in the face to everyone? This is basically sticking it to them. Superhero movies can be good enough to sit up with the best of them. This is a really good day. This is a really bad day for the CBM industry. What it means for the CBM genre is that you can make a great movie but if you don't have a mostly black cast and you don't make your movie all about racism, then you won't get nominated for an Oscar. The Academy has just sent a message to all CBMs that the only way a CBM can get nominated for an Oscar is to have a mostly black cast and make the movie all about racism. Or... Or... Or... It could mean that if you don't have a hot lead single by SZA that was produced by Kendrick Lamar you won't cop an Oscar nod. Love, let's talk about love Is it anything and everything you hoped for? Or do the feelings haunt you? I know the feelings haunt you...

No, the Academy sent a message to all CBMs that they acknowledge of their existence, that they can be considered Best Picture of the Year. If The Joker is a big awards contender next year, you have Black Panther to thank because it this important CBM did what no other CBM could do. so the oscars acknowledged their existence now? um.
why didnt they do that with superman 1978, batman 89, X2, Spiderman 2, tdk, wonder woman even logan that got for writing.why black panther?
funny the oscars chose to now recognise cbm exist when the cast was all black even though most 98% of comic films are white. a time disney own hollywood too.
sad isnt it. this should have been a time for celebration for the genre, instead we are bing mocked.lolmcu has really killed the genre. Never thought i will see the day were logan and tdk major nomination will be more meaningful than the comic film that got best picture.
how does the oscars give a movie best picture and ignore for writing, directing and acting? LOGIC PLEASE.

And those films were released at a different time, against different competition. Not a relevant comparison. Pretty simple. Directors vote for directors. Writers vote for the writers. Actors vote for the actors etc. Just because they didn't think it was in the Top 5 nominations does not mean they thought those and other aspects were poor. The Best Film is voted by EVERYONE. It is the WHOLE film that is voted for not individual aspects (so the only reason Bohemian Rhapsody is nominated is because of one of the the performances? Only two people were voted for acting in Vice...were the rest poor in that film?). And it is not the only film that people vote for...they can choose up to five films to be nominated. The films with 5% popularity get a nomination. Or....7 thousand people got together, decided on a PC vote whilst pocketing a hefty fee from Disney for an anonymous vote....yeah, that makes more sense "Boo hoo...MCU got a nomination....boo hoo black people are being voted for....boo hoo some of the voters were black...boohoo Logan didn't get a best pic nom"..just post that, it sums up everything you need to say on the matter

directors did not choose it by the way, disney bought it. Slightly better than mediocre actually. Personally I too am surprised that it got nominated. I'm also happy that it got nominated. I'm happy mainstream genre cinema is getting major recognition...and I couldn't give a fuck about who made it or what colour the people are in it, as long as it was a good film and had a reception that warranted its popularity, i see no reason why I should not believe that it featured in 5% of 7000+ people's Top 5 films of the year. And that is "merit". More credible that your opinion.on its own You honestly don't see how laughable your conspiracy theories are. 7000+ people coerced into voting for a Disney film and not one has exposed them.

Hey summers8 I seem to recall that despite a screenplay nomination Christopher Nolan didn’t earn a Best Director nod for Inception. Nor did it earn any acting nominations. Now while James Cameron’s Avatar fared better in that category it sure as hell didn’t earn nominations for writing or acting either. Yet both were Best Picture nominees that didn’t win and the world marched on without blowing up. Unless it did and these roundabout thread discussions are our collective purgatory.

Is it really necessary for you guys to get racial? Seriously this isn't a white nationalist subboard. It's kind of scary, isn't it? I don't mind the anti-MCU vibe these guys have going, to each their own. But some of the comments in here and char's thread are borderline racist. Complaining about how BP shouldn't get nominated because other films about black people already were. As if there can't be more than one notable film featuring black people in the same year.

directors did not choose it by the way, disney bought it. If they really rigged it, why not go all the way to include Infinity War, Mary Poppins Returns, or Incredibles 2?

Jaws was nominated for BP in 1975, yet it didn't receive any other noms in the major categories. Spielberg was overlooked for directing, Shaw for Best Supporting Actor, no Adapted Screenplay nomination. *Edit* One could also make a pretty strong argument for Scheider deserving a Lead Actor nomination...other than Chrissie's death at the beginning, and the two underwater sequences with Hooper, he's in every damn scene of the movie and went thru a huge range of emotions convincingly.
