Had any city ever lost two championship deciding games on the same day before today? Only the Rangers & Knicks series came to mind earlier. Game 7 Stanley Cup v Canucks was June 14, MSG. Game 4 MSG Rockets-Knicks was June 15, went 7 games.

Only thing in the same ballpark I guess is having 2 major national Olympic teams losing gold in one day.

Had any city ever lost two championship deciding games on the same day before today? Per my brief research, Philadelphia is the first city to ever accomplish this feat. Very Philly. They are also the first city of the decade to place on the "so close, so far" sublist for championship losses in two sports. Very Philly.

Houston lift themselves out of the dreaded list of almosts and advance to the main group with the Astros hoisting the piece of metal that is the Commissioner's Trophy. Although they probably cheated. That concludes 2022. Isn't it fun watching this thing grow?

Quite the feat by Philly - they've lost 3 championships since November! Chalk another one up for KC.

To clear this up early (and prevent the furious debate that would surely follow) I will not be including the WNBA. That said, I could be convinced to include MLS Cups. What's great is that I think in ten years (maybe sooner!), that won't even be a question. People will start talking about the 'five major sports,' I really believe that. Soccer will never eclipse the NFL or the NBA, but it'll be relevant in a way previous generations couldn't have imagined. Hell I'd say it's already relevant in ways previous generations couldn't have imagined. Thinking back to this comment - if anyone can raise soccer's profile in the US, Messi can. I posted on IMDB1 that Inter Miami's Instagram followers have immediately gone from 1 million to 5 million - more than any team in the four major sports. While this says more about the demographics of those sports than anything else (I believe the NBA is the only one making real waves internationally and among the youth - ie, the people who are using Instagram), it seems undeniable that more eyes will be on MLS now than ever before. Messi's not some washed up star; he has a legitimate argument as the sport's best ever and he's still playing at a high level.

Miami (South Florida) with both NHL & NBA teams in the same spring finals isn't nothing I suppose.
Boston had a combo in 1957 & 1958, yet only the Celtics with 1 of those 4 possible titles. New Jersey 2003, Devils won, Nets lost. New York 1994 came closest to success: Rangers won in 7, Knicks lost in 7.
I think that's the entire list. Boston missed a few close years apart. The Rangers & Knicks didn't make many finals. Bulls only had the 90's. Detroit not either.

Can’t imagine Messi has much left in the tank, especially now that he has a World Cup title under his belt.

He's just there to fill up his pension pot.

Kroenke gets another one. Miami in danger of becoming the Philly of the Southeast.

Las Vegas gets on the board - unfortunately, their only other team is the Raiders, so it looks like the Golden Knights will have to keep doing the heavy lifting.

Dallas/Arlington is on the board. Home of America's Team, after all. Dallas Stars, Mavericks, & Texas Rangers now all with titles since Larry Brown won SB MVP for Jerry.
