I'm all for 80s era family oriented films but E.T. never it did for me.
I always thought it was annoying crap.

The first slasher movie I know of that involves teenage girls being killed off one by one, by an unknown killer with a knife is The House That Screamed (1969). I watched this tonight and was actually surprised I liked it as much as I did. Things I liked Lily Palmer I thought the lighting was very well done and the ambiance of the whole film was consistent and nicely filmed. If this really was the first film about the teen girls being killed like you stated then it definitely set a precedent. Not so much Part of it was predictable as far as who the killer was. The very end a little less predictable. I get why they needed to show the relationship between the mother and son but was not impressed about showing the scenes of the Madame watching the beating and her watching the girls shower. It felt like it was gratuitous just for the sake of obvious reasons. Unless they were trying to put some sort of doubt in the viewers mind? Wouldn't have been upset if there had been a few more killings. Things I noticed One of the actresses was a borderline lookalike for Cybill Shepherd. Another actress was a doppelganger for Jane Leeves. Thanks for mentioning this film. I'm glad I watched it.

That isn't a movie though. I mean if we go to TV, The Twilight Zone is probably the most influential. I think maybe One Step Beyond may have influenced Serling and he took it to the next level.

I haven't even heard of this one. I'll have to look for it. I'm trying to remember a movie I saw last year from the 60's. It's about a couple who end up staying with different people and end up killing them. I know it's a B movie but can't remember the name. I thought it was very well done. Sound familiar? Not at the moment. The movie I was thinking of was The Honeymoon Killers. Not exactly a slasher movie but worth a watch. Notable for the mom in Everybody Loves Raymond and Martin Scorsese being fired as the director. Also based on a real story.

I'm trying to think of a movie that may have been an inspiration for movies about groups of people or cults that are killers.
Movies like Village of the Damned or Dead and Buried.(a favorite)
One that comes to mind is The Seventh Victim. Any earlier one's that I'm missing?

I had 3 characters in mind as who it could be. It is also a knowingly trashy movie. That is part of the appeal for me, but part of the whole point is to show the abuse that use to and probably still does take place within these types of schools.

If I would have seen this many many years ago I wouldn't have picked up it. Based on when it was made I always tend to over analyze films like this. It was a "trashy" movie but I didn't think it was anything out of the ordinary based on it's time. For as much as I'd love to...

For as much as I'd love to... It probably wasn't, that is the whole point imo. The movie isn't high art or even remotely pretending to be is what I am getting at, but it is using stuff from the time to it's advantage and drawing attention to it at the same time.

If I would have seen this film when it first came out I would have been "WTF???" It would've completely gotten me. Watching it now after seeing 50 years of films like this the "shock" is a little less. I think you and I are in agreement but I'm just stating it poorly.

I didn't say I think it is shocking btw, just that it is an exaggerated reflection of things that happen in reality. I like movies that get under my skin, and while none of the movie shocks me, it still gets under my skin and managed to be entertaining and creepy. I don't love the movie, I just like it. So maybe we are in agreement. I am only 37, so you have some years on me. I have seen about 8,000 movies though, so there really isn't anything in movies I haven't seen before.

Don't forget the Krimi!
The Fellowship of the Frog 1959 has a masked killer.

I didn't mean to allude to the fact that you thought it was shocking. I meant that If I had seen this movie in the theater when it first came out that I would have been a little shocked. Considering I would have never seen any movies made after that film was made. If it was the first movie about teen killings then it's understandable since we would have never seen a movie like this before. I have seen over 30,000 films and do have some years on you. Not as many as you may think. I agree there's probably not much we haven't seen but I always try to keep the movies in a perspective of when they first came out. Especially when I'm watching one from 40 years ago that I haven't seen before.

I always keep the time a movie is made in perspective, but most movies consist of themes that transcend the time they were made. The best movies do that.
