I always keep the time a movie is made in perspective, but most movies consist of themes that transcend the time they were made. The best movies do that. I'm not sure I agree with that statement. I do agree that some of the "best" movies do that. I mean that every movie has some representation of the experience of being human and an intelligent person can learn from almost any movie, as long as the movie isn't awful.

A number of films may have preceded it, but no "slasher" inspired a wave of films as much as Halloween.
Mad Max 2/Escape From New York seemed to have inspired many post-apocalyptic/dystopian action films (many from Italy), particularly via the home video boom
