First episode was pretty good, but it was only 32 minutes long. How do you trust a show that can't even put out a proper length premiere?

I read an article that said it's almost been 3 years since season 2 ended. Is that true? Because 32 minutes after 3 years is crazy. What the hell?

You're right but 2 years and 2 months is still a long ass time. Why is it that thousands of shows can put out 45 to 50 minute episodes but this one can't?

idk, maybe they are saving some stuff for later

Mando now has the run time of sitcoms, cartoons and cooking shows. These are the brilliant minds producing Star Wars content. Can't write in two more significant scenes. That's too hard.

Not bad, but not great.

This show remains awesome to me, but lacking in a good story when I really think about it.
The effects and use of The Volume (Favreau and Filoni are the only ones who seem to know how to properly use this tech) remain incredible and the music in the asteroid field dogfight was beautiful.
But, as noted above, it was too short of an episode. Pretty much nothing actually happened.
It’s great to be back in this world, though.

The premier definitely felt like one long recap. "Remember this droid? Remember the Carl Weathers character? Remember Mando was exhiled? Remember this female Mandalorian?" A lot of setup, hopefully it'll all payoff down the stretch.
Things I didn't like:
- The opening action sequence sure made Mandalorians look like chumps. A small army of the best fighters in the galaxy, and they have no answers for Crocoturtle?
- Do we need IG-11 to come back? His sacrifice was the defining moment of his character arc, it cheapens his legacy to bring him back to life; and begs the question, if they could do this, why didn't they do it sooner?
Things I enjoyed:
- The practical effects. Those pirate costumes looked cheap. Very old school Star Wars!
- Grogu seeing those creatures traveling in hyperspace. Is that something new being introduced to the mythos, or is it meant to be him imagining things? It was a neat visual either way.
- All the weird creatures, large and small. Those little repairmen, the Grinch Pirate General, all of it.
- The dogfight in the asteroid belt was awesome, from the storyboard to the score. A quick but excellent action sequence.
- I'm a huge Andor fan, it's such an amazing show for its own unique, ultra grounded look inside the SW universe during the time of empire. But let's not forget Star Wars has always had a degree of silliness, and that's ok. Some of the character interactions and dialog in this episode were borderline cringe, but it still felt like there were adults in the room. This show strikes that balance as well as A New Hope did. It has that 'Star Wars feel,' instead of feeling like a soulless SW knockoff, the way Boba Fett and Obi-Wan (for the most part) did.
So while this episode didn't really seem to advance the story much, I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes this season. Mostly I'm just glad they can still produce quality Star War content when they actually put their minds to it, instead of trying to fill out fan service checkboxes.

How do you trust a hugely successful show entering it's 3rd season? I wish it was longer, but come on.
1. I literally LOLed when he first popped up. I'm not just typing LOL, I laughed audibly when that little shit popped up in his little fish bowel. Then he is spinning in the chair and trying to hug Babu Friks. "No squeezies! Bad baby!"Comedic gold! Such a hit of a character. Amazing what they can do with his little coos and facial expressions.
2. I thought the opening fight was awesome. What a beast that thing was! A total unit. The shootout at the "OK Corral" and dogfight were also awesome. Great action sequences.
3. I like the stories and world building we saw. Mando is still on a mission, more Mandalorian mythology, the hint of a return of IG-11, and evolution of Greef Karga are all good stuff. I have a feeling the pirates will be a secondary villain all year, which I am not upset about. Curious to see if Mando ever gets over his "loyalty" to the old ways.
I hope CGI Luke doesn't show up again, at least not for a while. More galaxy building away from the Skywalkers and frankly I don't love CGI faces. Less is more.

Some dork named "Doom Cock" started it on YouTube and angry nerds actually bought it? If Grogu stays, they are overriding the sequels? BAHAHAHA! Plus, it was just a really funny scene.

You thought that made them look weak? That thing was an absolute unit! It was pretty big, but more importantly durable as shit. I liked that it wasn't easily defeated. I don;t think they looked weak, I think it looked tough.
I googled those whale things. Purgills or something like that. Another Filoni creation shoehorned into the live-shows. I know The Clone Wars (and Rebels to a lesser degree) has it's audience, but I am not among that group. I simply don't like what I have seen of them. They don't fit with the OT.
Narratively, it often doesn't make sense either. All of these supposed key players in big events disappear during the OT, but are all over the place before and after? Now we all know it's because they didn't exist yet, but that's exactly the issue. When you create prequels or content that takes in between other movies, you need to work within those constraints. Your characters ans stories are supposed to blend in, not be put at the front of the line; and that's what Filono does. This particular instance in of itself doesn't bother me, it's just that it's on top of everything else he does.
All those Clone Wars characters just popping up in Mando and BoBF? Bo Katan should look about 90, but doesn't.
Vader had an apprentice? I'm sorry, but no. You cannot watch the OT and PT and think that. We're supposed to buy there were what, 7-8 seasons worth of events and characters between AOTC and ROTS and one of those is Anakin had an apprentice? Absolutely not. It's such sloppy storytelling.
I like the pirates too. I think they could be a fun secondary antagonist and storyline. We don't even know who the big bad is this year, but you can tell it's not them. But interesting subplots and supporting characters are always welcome.
The Babu Frik people were hysterical. I am still laughing at that scene. Were people complaining about it? Little creatures and humor has always been in Star Wars and I will argue with anyone who criticizes it.
Do we need IG-11 back? No, but I'm not mad at it (yet). He's a droid. It's less offensive than Darth Maul being cut in half and thrown down a shaft.

Yeah I never got into any of the animated stuff, so any crossover there is going to seem new to me. I also don't love all the EU stuff they've thrown in over the years. Yoda and Ben talk like Luke and Leia are the last potential Jedi in the OT, now there are a bunch running around. It doesn't ruin it, but it does make it tough to synch everything up in your head. What really sticks out to me about crocoturtle is it clearly has a shell, so how about throwing some explosives into its (huge, gaping, always trying to eat everyone) mouth instead of trying to blast through its shell? I know the sequence was just there to give Mando something cool to do right off the bat, but I would've liked to see something a little different there. It's fine.

I never followed the EU religiously, but I have read a handful of books and comics over the years. I read Marvel's comics sporadically too in this new EU. I've liked several of these stories, didn't like others. But there's always this "never happened" feeling to me. Even the live action stuff, most of which I have liked, I'm just not sure if I see them as canon. But the cartoons? Definitely no.

Watched it today...it was lots of fun. Tons of action, essentially a two sentence explanation on the plot details for the foreseeable future with some pirate thorns in the side along for the ride. Not sure why we need IG-11. I get that Mando 'trusted' IG when his memory was restructured...but so why not just do that to another droid instead of finding replacement parts for one that was blown to hell in a lava river? That part of the plot feels a little forced to me. But overall it was a fun first episode.
The asteroid chase/fight was the highlight. The choreography during felt so sharp.
