Not much. It wasn't unheard of in eras past for Player of the Year winners to not make much impact in the NBA, but now it's a regular occurrence. You dominate college basketball by impacting the game in a myriad of ways. The NBA is just ten guys jogging up and down the court shooting threes for 48 minutes now. No physicality, no artistry, no creativity. It's a shit product. People are amazed that CBB is my favorite sport, beside baseball. Yet, I don't care for the NBA. I don't think I've watched an NBA game since the Buffalo Braves moved to San Diego. The NBA has no defense and no passion. It kills me that every great player ends up either with the Lakers or Celtics.
This is truer now than it ever was. The league doesn't want you to play defense, and the players don't want to work, so it's the perfect marriage. Not to dwell on the negative (who, me?), it's been a blast watching the tournament this year. Teamwork, ball movement, hustle plays, creative ways to score the ball, enthusiasm for the game; everything that's great about basketball has been on full display, even if some of the games were decided early.

Oddly, the one I probably seen the least was Larry Bird. No ESPN back then, the networks on the weekends only. And they weren't showing Indiana State, no matter who played for them. You seen the highlights "He's the best player in college basketball and you probably have never seen him. He's the Hick From French Lick, Larry Bird, from Indiana State, not Indiana!". Then there would be a highlight reel of Bird doing superhuman things. Against Drake and West Texas A&M. Even the NCAA games were local, Indiana State was in the West. There were two times Larry was on national TV, the 1979 semifinal against DePaul and the final against Michigan State. That's why the ISU-MSU final in 1979 is still the highest rated TV basketball broadcast in history. Bird was like Bigfoot, often talked about, never seen

Interestingly, the two I have the least memory of are recent ones: Trey Burke and Luka Garza. Garza is only four years ago!

I wasn't a huge college basketball fan until I went to college, so I remember very distinctly most everyone from 2005 on. 0 recollection of Frank Mason in 2017 for some reason. My favorite players to watch from the list: JJ Reddick, Blake Griffin, Zion Williamson, Zach Edey for obvious homer reasons. Reddick was my first year at college and I was so enthralled with the tournament that year and his insane shot making ability. Then a few year's later I remember being enamored with Steph Curry

You weirdos who watch the NBA can correct me, but Zach Edey will never make an NBA team. He just moves like a glacier sometimes. He is amazing at what he does. I also think some of the great NCAA big men, Ewing, Olajuwon, Leattner, Zion, Shaq would have eaten him for lunch You're obviously going to have to take what I say with a grain of salt for being biased... I don't think his game translates well to the NBA, and he will probably get eaten alive in the pick and roll. I think he can come in off a bench for a few years and provide some offense for teams. If you're talking about those playesr in college aspect, I think he would have given any one of them a run for their money, and you're also listing some of the alltime greats here. Is he going to play as well against Ewing or Olajuwon than he does against this year's Big Ten schedule, probably not, but I also think you would be able to say the same if those guys had to be defended by Edey. The guy is a beast. He is projected as a mid to late 1st round pick this year, in a year that is considered an extremely weak draft class. Who knows, he could develop a 3 point shot potentially and give him something else to put in his toolbox for the NBA - it's not unheard of big men adding 3-point shooting to their game after leaving college - Joel Embiid, Karl Anthony Towns, Brook Lopez - these guys were not shooters in college and are now all outside threats. Lopez might honestly be the best thing you can look at for Edey and hope he can become in the NBA - they played fairly similar college games, mostly using their size to dominate inside while being around 75% free throw shooters. Do I think that happens and he develops a shot and becomes a Lopez-type guy in the NBA? Unlikely. But I think it's a possibility in regards to his ceiling in the NBA.

Edey has one more year of eligibility, due to COVID. He's already said he's done with college. But he could change his mind. If he's told he won't get drafted, he might stay and make more in NIL than the pittance he would as an UFA. Especially if Purdue comes up a bit short, losing in the final.

The NBA and NHL didn't have national contracts. So the winter was the Sabres games, Hockey Night in Canada (usually a big game), Wide World of Sports (crap like bobsled unless the showed the Harlem Globetrotters), and CBB. Only three games and always the same few bluebloods. UCLA (even though the dynasty was done), Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas, Notre Dame, Indiana. I can faintly remember the end of UCLA's run and Bill Walton. But the first team I really remember was the last undefeated, 1975-76 Indiana.

3 out of 4 of those games last night were wildly entertaining. UConn just continues to absolutely steamroll teams, and it felt like the winner of Illinois/Iowa State was just playing for a chance to get crushed by UConn next.
Hopefully today's games are just as good as those last night

Like Houston in 1983 Like Georgetown in 1985 Like UNLV in 1991 Like Arizona in 2004 Like Kentucky in 2015 Like Gonzaga in 2021
It so tough to win the NCAA. Six games in three weeks isn't easy. Games get tougher each day. You might start out with a minnow, but a minnow that just won their conference tournament, a minnow playing with house money and nothing to lose. Each game get more pressure packed with more media scrutiny. And you are playing teams that are also on a roll. The NBA Playoff might look tougher but they aren't single elimination. Have a poor shooting night and foul trouble against a team playing really well, tsk tsk. There's a game tomorrow. Not here

Hopefully today's games are just as good as those last night I like the upset. It's March Madness, so it's certainly possible. But it's hard to imagine UConn losing to Illinois with how they have been playing. I think if Terrance Shannon can have some absolutely heroic game, it's a possibility, like if he shoots 80% from 3 or something crazy. UConn is just so good in every aspect, they have no weaknesses.

Really good game tonight
NC State-Marquette. Is this Survive and Advance II, this springs hottest sequel? Gonzaga-Purdue. Can the Zags negate Zach Edey? Is he due for a bad game/foul trouble Duke-Houston. Duke has mowed through their first two games, but against double digit seeds. I smell upset Creighton-Tennessee. Best game. The two best CBB player not 7'4" tall, Baylor scheieman (Creighton) and Dalton Knecht (UT)

I might point out that, of the Final Four teams I picked on November 6th, three, Duke, Houston and Marquette are still playing. i don't know what happened with USC. Maybe I typed UConn and autocorrect changed it to USC.
Yeah, that's it!
