Zach Edey draws 3,570 fouls, commits one. Breathe on Lurch, you'll get a whistle

Can't believe we are in the Final Four. Got my tickets minutes after the clock reaches 0, and booked my flight and hotel shortly after. Expensive ass trip booking a flight last minute, but last time we made the Final Four was 1980, so I may not get another chance in my lifetime. Win or lose, can't wait for the experience, and even if it's not Purdue, going to be cool to see a champion crowned live in front of me.

Zach Edey draws 3,570 fouls, commits one. Breathe on Lurch, you'll get a whistle I don't get why people complain so much about it instead of being awe of it. Watch the games. Edey gets hacked continually, and he plays defense very conservatively - if he's beat, he gives up on the play and surrenders the points, unlike literally every player who defends him. Instead of being impressed that a player 7'4 300 pounder is able to play 39 minutes with committing 1 foul and drawing a million, people are salty and piss it away. Never seen a player so god damn good draw so much hate and disdain from fans. The guy is an absolute freak, and a nice kid on top of it, and gets unnecessarily hated on online constantly. Can you find specific situations where he gets a break on both ends? Absolutely. You can find specific situations in a game where ANY player does. People have been bitching about him for 2 years. All Big Ten play, Big Ten fans said "oh, these Big Ten refs really favor Edey, wait until the tournament where he doesn't get these whistles and Purdue is going to get stomped." Purdue has not lost a non conference game in 2 years other than FDU. Every officiating crew the same results, over the course of the last 80 games, you might think it's a big enough sample size that hey, maybe he just gets absolutely mugged down low every single game, but instead casuals still just point to 80 games of refs favoring Edey.

What a weird and crappy way for Uconn women to lose. All set up for an exciting last possession down by 1 only to get a bogus and offensive foul called on a pick.
Such a stupid way to end a game.

Sucks the game "ended" that way but it wasn't a bogus call. Her legs were still moving and she stuck her elbow out. That also didn't decide the game. Clark missed the 2nd free throw, UConn had another chance they just didn't get the rebound. It sucks that will be the narrative for the next 24 hours but it was technically the right call imo. Was a sloppy game all around and I'm honestly surprised Iowa survived.

Uconn did have another shot after the missed free throw, but at that point it would have been a miracle where they had very high likelihood of winning on that previous play. I can't claim to have watched much of this season or tournament, but I grew up in Connecticut so I have a passing interest in the team.

I thought it was a good call. Gal setting the screen was still moving and she stuck her elbow out. Was actually a sloppy game by both teams and Iowa lucked out a bit. But hey, that counts too.

Agreed, it's a lame way to end a game. I don't necessarily think it was a bad call, what bothers me is there's a 0% chance they make that call if Clark had the ball for Iowa in the exact same situation.

It's also the kind of scenario where if they didn't make that call nobody would have complained. It was a pretty routine screen, and not even on a drive to score, just preliminary ball movement. They'd have let that go about 85% of the time no matter who had the ball or what was on the clock.

And that was the 3rd time they called them for that so it isn't like they called it once at the end.

Will UConn be the first team in 17 years to go back to back, or will Purdue be the second team in recent years to lose to a 16 seed in the first round only to come back and win the whole damn thing the next year? What a weird era for college basketball.

What a weird era for college basketball. Combined record, 70-7. 11 of 20 weeks at #1 in the AP Poll. Should be an epic game between the two best teams in this season. In the post Wooden Dynasty Era, it's happened twice
2005 - North Carolina over Illinois
1999 - UConn over Duke

South Carolina is just too big and too deep for Iowa to win. 36 bench points to 0 in favor of SC as well as all the 2nd chance points. Iowa needs to hit their threes and be damn near perfect these final 5 minutes.

Hell of a fun ride watching Caitlin Clark and the Hawkeyes. They gave SC a run for a while but again, they are just too big and too deep. Was like watching ankle biter dogs against a German Shepard on the boards. Too bad. I'll check out the first Indiana Fever game next season.
