I think the whole Phoenix Saga is overdone, to be honest.
The only reason they keep doing it is because Jean doesn't have anything else to her character beyond that.

To be fair, they never really adapted The Dark Phoenix storyline into film. X-Men: The Last Stand was more of a loose adaptation of Joss Whedon's The Girt storyline, just featuring Phoenix. The Dark Phoenix Saga is suppose to be a cosmic adventure like The Avengers: Infinity War, rather than just another "mutant-hatred" story.

The sad thing is, for all this talk about "X-Men should only be about mutants!" Or "It must be grounded!" those same people tend to forget just how crazy over the top Claremont wrote the 70s and 80s X-Men. He had them in space, fighting dinosaurs and vampires and demons, etc.

Sadly Singer is only interested in Wolverine-Magneto: Stryker movies and will never break away from that.

Because X2 was the most popular of his movies besides The Usual Suspects. After a long string of misses, you go back to when people liked your movies. Then you make that movie over and over again.

I don't see how the Phoenix Saga is overdone. I'm not one to pay any attention to cartoons so all I know about beside the comics is X3, and I'm quite sure people will be glad to see a new version based on that.

I do mean the cartoons, and various Alternate Universe comics as well. Anytime we see anything important with Jean in it, it always leads to Phoenix. I can't totally fault the writers, it IS the only plot Jeans' ever had.

The cartoon and comics audience who have actually read or watched those story arcs represent a very small percentage of the audience actually, so yes, it's not overdone for the vast majority of the audience. A great interpretation would be well accepted.

I see a lot of the old IMDb X-Men trolls here. I personally can't wait to see The Phoenix Saga properly realized on film.

Oh dear lord I can already see the Razzie nomination in Sophie Turner's future if she's tasked with trying to do a real Dark Phoenix storyline.
For the love of god I do wish the X-Men films would just reboot and give us something different than just the same old things in separate movies. I mean how many times do we have to see Magneto as one of the main bad guys?(3 films) Jean Grey having the Phoenix be part of her powers?(2 1/2 films) Wolverine's origin with Weapon X?(3 films) William Stryker?(4 films) My guess is we'll get yet another Quicksilver knock off scene from DOFP just like we got in Apocalypse so that'll likely be added on to a list of things these X-Men films just check off in their lists.
Hugh Jackman will be done with Wolverine so I don't see what's keeping them from rebooting the franchise. It's not like they have to accommodate for his Wolverine anymore. Reboot the X-Men in the Deadpool universe where they can have adventures that take place in the current decade and have them already be established as the X-Men as Deadpool's film showed (with Collossus being a member and Negasonic being like a trainee.) It shouldn't be that hard. I have no interest in seeing this young cast in what will likely be another 10 year decade jump and for them to try and pull off a Phoenix storyline that I have zero interest in seeing or believing that it'll be pulled off remotely well.
Completely recast everybody, get a brand new director, a new screen writer and try something fresh and new. I don't want to watch these characters be kids/teenagers. I want to watch them full on be the X-Men.

The whole cosmic enitity thing was a contrived retcon that was created six years after The Dark Phoenix to bring Jean back. And the X-Men started out as a team of teenagers. They are Marvel's equivalent of Teen Titans. Hence the crossover.

So? It's still not the X-Men that I want to see right now. I have no interest in seeing them this way at this time specially with the current cast in which we are given.

It's not really that they are teenagers that they are messing up on. It's how they are portraying them. In the comics, the X-men are more of a private militia and train as such. You don't get that from the movies. It's more like being X-men is secondary. I think they do tha so they don't really have to think up action scenes for them. Notice that most of the action scenes are from the villains.

We've already had the Golden Gate bridge, a baseball stadium, and the metal within the earth.
