How is this dumb thread still active? To the posters who say TV was better in the past, you are all morons. Plain and simple. No mincing words here. I guess if you are a teenager, then maybe you could argue shows like The Wire and Sopranos were better. Sure, I can see that, but saying TV pre 1990s was better than after is not only wrong but on a level of stupid I cannot even describe here. I do agree that tv today overall is better than in the past. but to call people morons because they prefer tv of the past to the tv of the present says more about you than them.

I absolutely want you you explain to me which shows today are of standout quality. Go ahead. In the last few years I mean.

I am a little bit older than most on here, so I have a different perspective. We were arguing this in this very thread months ago. I notice the 'argument' is still going strong. Shows like Game of Thrones, The Wire, The Shield, The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, etc. crap all over the 'classic' shows of the 20th century. It is hilarious to think otherwise. Before the 21st century, it was common for TV stars to be the 'lesser' stars. Big stars were in movies and smaller stars went to TV. Now, the quality budgets, writing staff, actors, and Directors all come to television. TV has become a quality medium and big name stars fight for their chance at their own show. TV is just of a higher quality now and that is not even a debate.

Ok if you're comparing 21st century vs older stuff, but in my view it's been the last 3-4 years that has dropped hard as compared to what was on offer earlier this century. While Breaking Bad was great, I am strongly against Game of Thrones, and my fears and observations are that the latter has been so wildly successful that its style is being set up as a goal to aim for for many new shows. There has been a very narrow definition established of what "serious" and "acclaimed" TV is supposed to be, which is not favorable toward diversity and offering more options.

The last three years have given us more Game of Thrones, Narcos, Stranger Things, Mindhunters, and countless other shows. There is so much quality television out there today.
