I suppose you could make the argument that it shows off just how impressive her abilities truly are if she’s able to redirect lightning like that. It’s no more mindless spectacle than anything else you see in a superhero movie. It took away from the concept that she could beat him with her own power. I'm not even sure she could.
That makes it far more of a mindless spectacle since it undermines the point.
And I suppose the Avengers didn’t use their own power to beat the Chitari, given that they instead relied on a government nuke to destroy the alien ship.

Actually they used their own power and skill to close the portal. That stopped the invasion. They didn't need the nuke at all. It was just a splash moment. The Nuke was exclusive the conclusion of Nick Fury's storyline, not the Avengers. It was about the security councils distrust of him.
See the difference?

They didn’t need the nuke? So why’d Iron Man use it to destroy the ship?

They didn’t need the nuke? So why’d Iron Man use it to destroy the ship? Because he had it. Remember he had to stop Natasha from closing the portal. The battle was already over, so he decided he might as well hit them with it. And again, the nuke was about Nick fury's battle for power with the Council, not about the Avengers. That was Marvel tying two plot threads together with a nice bow, something DC doesn't really know how to do.

Because he had it? So what if I said that WW used lightning to kill Ares because she had it? And no, the battle wasn’t over. The Chitari were still alive and there was an army of them. Without that nuke, the Chitari wouldn’t have all conveniently dropped dead.

Closing the portal did. They would just have to clean up what was left, which they were already doing.
You seem to not know what narrative significance is.

If Ares hadn't fired that lightning, she wouldn't have defeated him. So how was she able to telekentically knock him back? For that matter, how was she able to absorb his lightning and fire it back at him if she was no match for him? also, I thought your argument was that Diana was too perfect? Now it’s that she couldn’t defeat Ares? Which is it?

And what indication was there that they actually would have been able to wipe out the rest of the Chitari on their own? I’m asking this since you are so insistent on this idea that Diana couldn’t defeat Ares, even though she was clearly stronger than him.

The fact that they had already taken out countless numbers of them with zero casualties of their own.
Any more questions?
No clue why you think Diana was "clearly" stronger. She'd been "clearly" getting her ass kicked. I didn't see anything to indicate she was "clearly" anything.

She was getting her ass kicked before Steve’s death. After that, she gained the upperhand.

And no, I don't see where she gained the upper hand.

Go to 3:15. That was right before he fired his lightning at her. I've seen it before. And that's it? One knockback? We're supposed to believe he now suddenly has no chance? Really? That was their attempt to convey her sudden miraculous dominance?

That was their attempt to convey her sudden miraculous dominance? Considering that she knocked him back without even touching him, which is something she presumably couldn’t do before, I’d say it’s a pretty good indicator that Ares would no longer be able to overwhelm her like he did before.

That's it? So she's gohan? Far weaker than him, then magically stronger, and 5 seconds later the fights over. This is what you're trying to sell me as a good scene?

I’m pretty sure the implication is that once she finally came to terms with everything, she was able to gain full control of her powers. In any case, she definitely became more powerful than she was before.

Oh' she's magically stronger because reasons, but let's have her beat him with lightening instead of using her, ya know, strength we just gave her.
Remember when I said the narrative was terrible. There ya go
