Goodbye Oscar for Black Panther Good riddance to that “category” for the time being, but this just means that the movie is more likely to get nominated for Best Picture.

Goodbye Oscar for Black Panther Do you think they really care given the film's worldwide success? Yes, because that award, even debased as it is today, will confer on the film an 'artistic' legitimacy that mere popularity won't.
Which I don't feel it deserves, but there are plenty who'd disagree with me.

They don't make these films for Oscars. That's just not their aim and never has been. They don't need them. Their films are critical and box office hits. An Oscar (win or nomination) would just be an extra cherry on top.

Clearly someone wants them to start being made for Oscars, or there wouldn't be a push to create a special category to nominate them. So it would seem that all that critical and box office success just isn't enough without that cherry.

It has more to do with the show's ratings decline than anything else.

Maybe if they stopped turning these programs into Democratic political rallies people would watch

I think the conflict is between Black Panther and Blackkklansmen. Sibling rivalry as it were (Disney and Blumhouse), and they both want to get that worthless PR boost so they can make a useless political statement. Disney is more aggressive about it, but Spike Lee carries some token clout with the Oscar crowd and Blumhouse is the new Weinstein Co. Maybe its time to get Warren Beatty to make another strategic envelope mistake so they both can claim victory? Should really be Sydney Poitier though, to give it more street cred.
BETTER YET
They should have Mr T come out and say he was told to present the award for Best Picture but he "pities the fool" who thinks they can tell Mr T what to do so instead, the producers of Black Panther and the producers of BlacKKKlansman will go on stage and fight it out Wakanda style. Whoever is left standing gets the statue. It would be the most watched Oscars in history if they do that.

Goodbye Oscar for Black Panther Do you think they really care given the film's worldwide success? Yes, MCU Dictator Kevin Feige must really be pissed off now. Disney bullied the Academy into creating the Most Popular Film category so MCU could get a non-technical Oscar. Now that the Academy has cancelled the award, MCU won't be able to get the non-technical Oscar that Feige really wanted.

No, it just means that Black Panther won't get nominated for a non-technical Oscar. The Best Picture nominations will most likely come from this list: A Star is Born Beautiful Boy Boy Erased The Favourite First Man The Front Runner If Beale Street Could Talk Mary, Queen of Scots The Old Man & the Gun On the Basis of Sex Widows

I don't think that Black Panther deserved an Oscar nomination. I don't care who gets Oscars. I just want BP to get a nomination to see DC-Fan's spin on it. Separately, I also want to see the racists/alt-rights heads explode as they rant online.

I would agree if Oscars actually stood for anything. It has always been a big Hollywood circle jerk. The Academy's opinion means about as much to me as Hobo Jim's who lives on the streets opinion on a good meal. Why should anybody care what other's opinion on Quality Cinema. The Quality of something has fuck all to do what others say. Your opinion is the only one that matters, why must we validate it? Edit: Also I'm sure there will be people who aren't racists or alt-right that bitch about it getting nominated. There will be closeted racists that try to hide the fact the reason they hate, but those 2 I won't care about. There will be the ones that can't hide it and those will be the ones I want to see rant at it.

this just got very embarrassing for Disney and marvel. this is what happens when Disney abuses their power.
thank goodness for logan and tdk. they earned in major categories on merit.
lol..I remember when thatguy used to brag that mcu is popular. lol..there is no such thing as actual popularity, that depends on who is your audiences and who markets you.

IF, big if, Black Panther gets nominated, (or pulls out a victory). What will the conspiracy nuts say what happened?
I think their major push will be that, Disney seeing the backlash told the Academy to pull it back this year so Black Panther can be nominated under the original category for best film.
What's your going theory list it below. If (a huge IF) it does happen and they get nominated we can come back here and see who was closest.

An Oscar (win or nomination) would just be an extra cherry on top. You still don't get it. it is about what is deserving. mcu is not deserving their movies are poorly made, poorly written, generic , have no directorial input and have destroyed the credibility of comic books. you mentioned critical hit but it is down to the content. You can't compare why movies like logan and tdk or even DOFP and Batman Begins are critical hit to why mcu movies are critical hits. also remember mcu critical hits have proven not to be credible. it is clear critics give their movies a pass...we are still waiting for Black panther to get the same harsh criticism for their bad cgi like Xmen origins and Justice league got. how come critics did not say anything? Also critical hit because their movies are fun? try critical hits because your movie is a compelling drama like Logan, DOFP and TDK and is taken seriously. These are the comic films that will be more Oscar friendly based on merit. reason Disney wants to buy the awards and can't earn it. look at these two videos and tell me which is more Oscar looking this from avengers 1 or this from xmen 1 based on the Oscar's history, it is laughable to think avengers 1 will get an Oscar nomination over X-Men 1. lol..critical hits...mcu movies are transformers with faux good reviews..

If black panther gets nominated it will proof beyond reasonable doubt that 1. there is a bias to MCU that has now become impossible to deny
2. Disney is overly powerful and too influencial that they destroy the very core of artistic meritthe topic is simple. black panther is an average and generic movie. forget Logan and TDK. Use first class and batman begins. first class and batman begins are better films, why? a. the plots of these films are more compelling b.the characters are more 3 dimensional c. both films have better CGI. More importantly the core themes of both films. batman begins dealing with police corruption and first class dealing with the cold war and racial prejudice were handled with more depth than the themes of black panther that was barely there, which is what attracts Oscars. so how can black panther get nominated why none of this films did not? it is simple. the recognition should go to the best of film making. black panther is not close to the best.

Dude I get it you don't like the MCU and that the MCU will have the X-men. Everything you just said is an opinion. Hell the Oscars are nothing but Opinion. Why do you need people's opinion to validate your own? You like Fox's version of Xmen and you don't like the MCU. There is no need for you to validate those opinions with awards, critics, actors, actresses, etc. Maybe I worded it wrong but I want people's nutty conspiracy theories to explain it. Get creative the nuttier the better.
