Seattle Mariners fire sale, rebuilding year number 3 or 5 or 7. Too many to count! Yay Cleveland Browns of the MLB!

I speculated earlier on that Goldschmidt was a fit for the Cardinals. Once Donaldson chose the Braves offer over the Cards I thought more so of it unless they wanted to go the Moose route. Goldy is the much better player and I definitely like this trade for the Cardinals. I know my Dad who is a lifelong Cards fan is to the moon over it. DBacks return for 1 year of Goldy is okay but not great. Luke Weaver is a solid young pitcher with upside and Carson Kelly isn't far removed from being the top catching prospect in baseball.

Paul Goldschmidt to the Cards. Those a-holes. The Goldy and Carpy show by The Gateway Arch! Hell of a pickup

The Goldy and Carpy show by The Gateway Arch! Hell of a pickup I like it. They really didn't give up much either. Weaver has been inconsistent, and Kelly has yet to show he can hit at the big league level. Just gotta hope they can extend Goldschmidt for a few more years.

Sox re-sign Nathan Eovaldi. This is cause for celebration at the Millar home office.

I'm gonna make a prediction that the Braves make a trade with the Indians not for Kluber but for Bauer.

what's cooking on the hot stove today?! Rumblings about a 3-team deal involving the Marlins, Mets and Yankees where Realmuto would end up in Queens. Not much teeth to it, methinks this is just some rumor swirling.

Phillies sign Andrew McCutchutchen to a 3 year $50 million deal. He was great on the Pirates, does he have anything left?

Phillies sign Andrew McCutchutchen to a 3 year $50 million deal. He was great on the Pirates, does he have anything left? I've always liked McCutchen and even though he's not the MVP player he used to be, he's still a quality player who plays the OF well (a corner spot now) and gets on base at a very high level. Still, this tells me they're moving away from Harper and going all in on Machado.

McCutchen essentially replaces Hoskins, who will presumably move back to first after dumping Santana. Their other OF are all young and not great - Odubel Herrera, Aaron Altherr, Nick Williams, Roman Quinn - nothing that wouldnโt be upgraded by adding Harper. They have a connection to Machado from Andy MacPhail - they were in Baltimore at the same time. I still think they CAN add both, but if they will remains to be seen.

After Herrera, the other guys are 4th outfielders at best. Going into this offseason, the Phils had almost no long term money tied up. There is still plenty of money to spend on Harper and Machado with some left over to get a JA Happ type pitcher. Outside of the Yankees and Dodgers, the Phillies probably have the best tv deal in baseball. They are flush with money and havenโt been spending it prep for this winter. Also, getting McCurchen is insurance in case Harper does pass on the Phillies. It is thought that it will be February before Harper or Machado signs and the Phillies donโt wonโt to be left holding the empty bag when spring training begins and these guys sign somewhere else. It is the same reason they went and got Segura.

I watched McCutchen last year with the Giants, then was secretly ecstatic when the Yankees got him and stuck him in the leadoff spot. He was a real help to the Sox as he did nothing in the ALDS. McCutchen isn't done perhaps, but he ain't that good anymore.

You can fault Kapler for a lot of things, and Crawford is still young and can develop, but he was downright awful last year. You want to give your young players reps and let them find their way but not at the expense of the team so sending him back down was the right more. His minor league stats are nothing indicating that he's a budding star and he's done jack shit in his brief stint in the majors to even show that he'll emerge as anything more than a 4th outfielder. Picking him as your ROY for last year is akin to taking a bunch of names, throwing them down the stairs and whichever name lands on the bottom step is your choice for the award. Despite once being considered a top prospect, he's really done nothing but disappoint. There was no reason to suspect he would have suddenly snapped out of it and emerged as the frontrunner when you had guys like Ronald Acuna, Lewis Brinson, Victor Robles and Christian Arroyo as the leading candidates when people were pontificating during spring training.
