I watched him since he was at Lakeside Hs in calif. at least the skipper is coming to the realization his inept managing is taking a toll on his players. Will be epic comedy to see if Harper or Machado get on the team and see how long they put up with it. 😃 www2.philly.com/phillies/scott-kingery-second-base-cesar-hernandez-matt-klentak-gabe-kapler-winter-meetings-20181211.htmlThe trade to acquire Segura from Seattle freed up first base for Rhys Hoskins, as Carlos Santana went to the Mariners. Kapler said he was being speculative but said Hoskins’ learning to play left field last season took a “psychological toll.” You’re preaching to the choir here about Kapler but Crawford started sucking before Kapler entered the picture. That, and the organization decided to put Hoskins in LF back in the minors, again before Kapler was in Philly.

It happens....what is with the scott kingry love? A .220 hitter who can play more than one position is worth 40 mil? Crawford struggled early, although after a 1-for-23 start in his first seven games, he has hit .273 with six doubles, a triple, three home runs, nine RBIs and an .885 OPS in his last 31.

I think the analytics nerds on the Phillies were fantasizing that Kingery would be their Ben Zobrist. He did well in the minors and at times ok in the majors but he struggled for the most part this year. Didn’t help that Kapler batted him all over the place.

Yeah, Kingery is where I think Kapler screwed up; it wasn't even an analytics thing, it was just stupidity. Young players who are adapting to life at the top level don't need to be flying around the field from position-to-position all the time. It never works out in their favor. But Kingery's scouting report has him as this type of polished, college-type hitter who projects into a 20-20 type of guy. Like a poor man's Ryne Sandberg. If they just put him in one position and leave him there, he should blossom.

Charlie Morton signs 2-year, $30m deal with the Rays. Him and Snell make a pretty strong 1-2 punch atop the rotation, if Tyler Glasnow can take a step forward, they'll really have something cooking.

If they just put him in one position and leave him there, he should blossom. yep, Kingery played 5 different defensive positions and started games in all 9 spots of the batting order. That is no way to treat a young player in his first major league season. Kapler never gave Kingery a chance to get settled in.
In a 162 game season, Kapler managed to trot out 95 different starting defensive line-ups (not counting pitchers, 128 if counting pitchers) and 138 different starting batting orders (156 if pitchers are included)

You shouldn't do that kind of crap to a 10 year veteran, let alone a rookie or 2nd year player. I get that sports and strategies evolve over time but sometimes things are done the way they're done for so long because they work.

Nice pickup for the Rays. If you put the Yankees lineup together with the Rays pitching......well, that still wouldn't be better than the Red Sox, but you're getting closer. This move hurts the Astros as well, so all good in Sox Nation.

Mets re-sign old friend Jeurys Familia to a 3-year, $30m deal to serve as Edwin Diaz's setup man.

Shitsack Matt Harvey signs a 1 year deal with the Angels for $11m, with another $3m in incentives. The talking heads on MLB Network are saying that Harvey was “very effective” with the Reds and that his stuff was all the way back to what it was when he was The Dark Knight. Seriously? Pass the blunt, fellas.

Pass the blunt, fellas. He did look a tad better in Cincy. No one would confuse him with Tom Seaver, but better. And that park isn't pitcher friendly. The injuries took a toll. Game 5 of the 2015 WS took a toll. But that whole "Dark Knight" bullshit wrecked him, in my opinion. Tough for anyone to live up to that hype. In two years, he went from Chapel Hill, NC to being the most celebrated current player in NYC. He was fine after the TJ surgery, but once he struggled a bit, the NY fans turned on him. That being said, I think he could have pick a better team than the Angels. Pressure there. The Angels are in danger of being the modern day St. Louis Browns, eternally playing 2nd fiddle to the glamorous team across the city. And looking up to the Astros. If the Halos aren't competitive soon, Trout will be packing his back and that will gut this franchise. And, so far, the big signing is Harvey. He struggles into May, he will be hung in effigy again. Fans in KC or San Diego might be more patient.

Fans in KC or San Diego might be more patient. Yeah, he was definitely "better" but he couldn't have possibly been worse than he was in New York the past few years and in particular in the early going this past year. I think the fans were fairly generous to him, at least insofar as they didn't really turn on him until the bullshit with not showing up to games started. He was AWFUL in 2016 and again in 2017 and the fans were fairly nice to him through some absolutely brutal outings. Not like Oliver Perez (our game 7 starter!!) who would throw 3 perfect innings and then get boo'ed off the mound after walking one guy in the 4th (before imploding in the 5th).

Veteran infielder Daniel Murphy has agreed in principle to a deal with the Colorado Rockies, according to multiple reports.
The deal is for two years and $24 million, as first reported by Yahoo Sports.
Murphy has spent the bulk of his career at second base, where the Rockies are looking to replace fellow free agent DJ LeMahieu. But Murphy is expected to play mostly at first base for Colorado.
