Why are you Mets fans so nice? Why can't you be more like Yankees fans? It'd be so much easier that way! ππ€βΎοΈ The Os should sign Homer Bailey. Speaking as a Sox fan, by all means, please sign Homer Bailey. I think he'd fit right in with that O's pitching staff.

Braves sign Josh Donaldson to a 1-year, $23m pillow contract. Lot of dough for a guy with a long list of injury concerns, but I kinda like it for them. They're on the rise and it shows they're seriously pushing to contend if they're still going to go after Machado or Harper. Obvious risks here but the upside makes it worth the gamble. Fortune favors the bold. Plus, if he's gunning for that one last big contract, that's not a bad place to do it. The lineup would be Acuna, Albies, Freeman, Donaldson. Not a bad 4some right there.

Should rename this the cold stove thread. Hardly anything important, and does anyone care anymore where Harper and Machado sign?

what's the latest on keuchel and kimbrel?
think keuchel was looking for like a ridiculous 6-7 year contract
wish the phils would do what they did with arrieta and front load a contract for 3 years and send him an offer

Phillies sign Aaron Nola to a 4-year, $45m extension, buying out all of his arbitration years at what would probably have been a substantial discount. This is what smart teams do, lock up their stud pitchers during what should be a contending window and giving the team a budget to work with for the next 4 years. This is something the Mets would never do, which is why deGrom and company aren't offered extensions.

don't know what they would have done in that situation if they signed Machado too
maybe:
Moose - 3rd Machado - SS Segura - move him over to 2nd Hernandez/Kingery - utility guys off the bench (or maybe move Hernandez which has been rumored for years and role with Kingery as the backup 2nd Baseman/Utility Man. Hernandez has turned his career around a bit though after a disappointing start)

Or am I wrong?
Wasn't he set for arbitration this week? I would have figured he would have made/demanded more.
Didn't he finish 3rd in the CY voting this year? He's only 25. 4 deal with an option for a 5th. Granted he's had injury concerns/issues in the past - but for a 25 year old #1 pitcher who finished 3rd in the CY Young voting last year to get him for around (averaging) a little over $11 mil a year?
Not quite sure of the going ons during the arbitration process - does a judge put a cap and what you're allowed to make based on your previous contract? Think he made over $500,000 last year - so yes it is a substantial jump in salary - but I just would have figured he'd be commanding/would get like $15-$18 mil a year for a #1 Ace coming off 17 wins.

Should have signed Ryan Hanigan, right millar70 , or are your Sox going to snap him up?

For him, he gets the certainty of a very nice salary leading up to his free agency, you never know what you'll get in arbitration, especially if you come off a down year, or an injury. This guarantees that even if he has that, he still gets paid. The Phils get a top of the line starter for below market value. Win-win for both the team and the player and when Nola hits FA at the end of this contract, he can cash in on a 9 figure deal. Of course, I think if he has another 2 years like the one he just had, the Phils will tear up this deal and offer him a longer team deal to buy out his first few FA years.
